It's interesting some of the players that aren't getting many mentions, but were top talent just a couple seasons ago. NBA stars get old fast ~ Iverson just amazes me every year [10 year vet now ! ].

I think The Truth deserves a top ten ranking, completely forgot about him, i'd put him ahead of Iverson...just.

Regarding the team I listed. I tried to build a team that you could realistically see as a roster in the nba. Of course, I could have listed top ten players at every position, but I decided to limit myself to a couple of stars.

    My dream team?

    Here it goes:

    Steve Nash
    Ray Allen
    Lebron James
    AK
    Ben Wallace

    Bench?

    Shane Battier
    Rasheed Wallace
    Earl Boykins

    Sure I don't. HAHAHAHA

This time I picked my five all stars and made the bench really bench players!

I just can't see putting Tim Duncan on the bench, or Yao Ming.

This topic is about the top 10 players in the NBA. There is no bench, there is no team. This is the top 10 players in the NBA. Players you build around, superstars. No Boykins, Battiers.

    A different take...

    1) David Stern- The Commish is the top player in the NBA
    2) Michael Jordan- Even though he hasn't seen the court in 2 years he still may be the most popular basketball player in the world.
    3) David Faulk- He is responsible for Nike's relationship with the NBA and has done some of the leagues biggest deals...including Jordan's. According to the sporting news he is the 2nd most powerful man in basketball.
    4) Ted Turner- With his network competition he has made the NBA a more highly regarded television commodity.
    5) Mark Cuban- He has given NBA ownership a new name, Pat Croce tried but Cuban has broken the mold.
    6) Yao- His international fame has helped the game immensly
    7) LeBron- He is trying to fill the marketing void that Jordan left behind.
    8) Larry Brown- His "hired gun" reputation makes coaching more sexy and watched.
    9) AI- He is the litmus test that determines exactly how much of the hip hop influence should be tolerated.
    10) Stu Jackson- He should win the "Harriet Beecher Stowe" award for diversity.

are you talking last years t-mac or a healthy t-mac? if you don't think a healthy t-mac is a top 10 nba player you're an idiot. this has nothing to do with clutchfans.

Well, a brokeback TMac probably won't crash the top 30 list if you are an unbiased fan.

    1. A healthy t-mac does not currently exist. If we're dealing in hypotheticals, what's to stop you from adding in a genetically engineered cybernetically enhanced Jordan?

    2. Those numbers are great, except for the fact that a 21 year old LeBron eclipsed them this season, and went further in the playoffs than T-Mac ever has; at the same point in his career, T-mac was beginning to show some promise in Toronto, but hadn't arrived yet.

It's nice to be Rox fan but you have to be realistic. Tracy was not as effective a player this season as he has been or as others were, regardless of what effect injuries had.

There is a healthy T-Mac, he played for us last season. No player is ever 100%, but he played 78 games for us last season with the usual bumps and scratches that every NBA players goes through....and that's great for LeBron i really like him as a player but all they would have to do is isolate LeBron on T-Mac and the results would be embarrasing for The King.

He wasn't effective as others last season, but my rankings weren't for this season, but he is the best player in the league until somebody proves they can do all that he can in every area of the game.

A player who had continuous back spasms throughout the season, to average those numbers is pretty damn impressive and if LeBron was going through the same thing we'd all be hearing about how great he was for averaging these numbers in an injury plagued season.

The way T-Mac has been left completely out of everybody's mind is amazing. It's seriously just out of sight/out of mind for some people.

And furthermore, basketball is a team game. LeBron hasn't gone further than T-Mac has, the Cavs have gone further than the Magic or Rockets have. Nevermind that the Cavs beat a team they should have beaten while James got away with about twenty steps to win a game for them.

If they were to meet in the finals, i'd suggest to Mike Brown that he doesn't leave LeBron alone to guard T-Mac the way Bob Hill left Robinson alone to guard Hakeem, because he will get destroyed. It would be an unwise strategy.

I find it interesting that your argument regarding playoff success is that "it's a team game", and yet you argue that McGrady is better than James because he could score on Lebron one-on-one.

It is a team game, and LeBron is considered a great talent because of what he brings to a team, not who he can beat in isolation.

I knew someone would bring that up....basketball still involves strategies as well. James is a liability on defense, and he would be exposed by an excellent offensive player. The reason T-Mac is better is because he isn't a liability on either end of the floor. Until James learns to become a better defender, T-Mac is the better player.

James weaknesses can be exposed to the detriment of his team, if a player has better teammates around him then they can be utilised to make up for is weaknesses.

I seriously can't believe someone is arguing that McGrady is better than James. It embarrasses me as a McGrady fan. Can we please go out atleast with some dignity.

James just averaged 31ppg on nearly 50% from the field in leading his team to one win away from the conference finals - at age 21. He's probably the best player in the entire league. I don't care what McGrady did in the past or when he was healthy or what he did when isolated against James blah blah blah. James is the better player right now and it's not even a debate.

I'll be more than happy to admit James is the better player when he starts playing some damn defense.

    additionally,

for me it's not the stats, it's scoring at the right time to win games.. and LJ proved that already... taking the series to 7 games after down by 2 games. Tmac did the opposite, he blew up a 2-0game lead. Need I say more?

That was two seasons ago. In 2006, which was last season Lebron > T-mac.

Let's face it, LeBron is a bigger, younger, stronger t-mac, who is progressing even faster than t-mac did when he was 22; it's difficult to see the pendulum swing back, given the fragility of t-mac. It's nice to be a fan, but this is just silly.
