Definitely shoots up my list. In order, here is my list I think... 1. Dark Knight 2. Serenity 3. LOTR Triology 4. Star Trek 5. Batman Begins 6. Old School 7. Iron Man 8. Gladiator 9. 300 10. The Wrestler
I was thinking about putting this. Philip Seymour Hoffman is awesome in this movie. Plus my dad was the real Charlie Wilsons paper boy back in the day in lufkin.
My Top 12 (not necessarily the best movies by any means but my favorites of my favorites of this decade): Moulin Rouge Incredibles Anchorman Appleseed: ExMachina Dark Knight LOTR Harry Potter (Azkaban and on) Revenge of the Sith Gladiator Serenity Garden State Oceans 11 Honorable Mention: Finding Nemo Walll E Across the Universe Shaun of the Dead Meet the Parents Kung Fu Hustle House of Flying Daggers Spiderman 2 Batman Begins Sunshine Underworld Rocky Balboa Passion of the Christ Apocalypto Black Hawk Down Kingdom of Heaven (Director's Cut) Pirates of the Caribbean Pitch Black Casino Royale Enemy at the Gates Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist Kill Bill Enemy at the Gates
I don't get the lovefest for 300. Troy was way better, for example. V for Vendetta is one i'm surprised isn't getting much attention.
Hard to make my list. Many were mentioned by other posters already. I would like to nominate Shrek as the representative of animated films.
1) Lost in Translation 2) Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind 3) A Beautiful Mind 4) Wall-E 5) The Dark knight 6) Chicago 7) The Pianist 8) Spirited Away 9) The Painted Veil 10) Kill Bill vol. 1
The two movies tried for different things, I think. For what it was trying to be, I think 300 was much more succesful. Troy was attempting to succeed on the epic historical war type movie in the same vein as Gladiator. On that level, I think it failed to a significant degree (it really needed a lead that could bring as well as Crowe did...Pitt just didn't get enough screen time). 300 was more strict popcorn action with little concern for any real historical fact. I mean, hell, the guys were fighting freaking mutants. On that level, I think 300 is absolutely awesome. V for Vendetta almost made it in to my Honorable mentions. Perhaps because it has been a year or two since I have seen it. It has faded from my memory somewhat, even though I spent 10 minutes trying to convince a coworker to watch it a month or two ago. Very underrated performance by Portman.
With very little thought... 1. Gladiator 2. Into The Wild 3. Memento 4. Cinderella Man 5. Munich 6. No Country For Old Men 7. American Psycho 8. Garden State 9. Moon (not NEW Moon) 10. Mystic River
1 Zodiac 2 The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford 3 Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind 4 Man on Wire 5 Michael Clayton 6 A History Of Violence 7 Snow Angels 8 Mulholland Dr. 9 Gerry 10 Inglourious Basterds Honorable Mention: 11 You Can Count On Me 12 Memento 13 I Heart Huckabees 14 Into the Wild 15 Match Point 16 Adaptation 17 Grizzly Man 18 Spartan 19 O Brother, Where Art Thou? 20 American Psycho 21 The Wrestler 22 The Hurt Locker 23 Donnie Darko 24 Synecdoche, NY 25 The Cell
V for Vendetta was fantastic, but Troy? Really? You might be the only guy I've ever heard sing its praises.
The only thing good about Troy was Eric Bana being a badass as usual. Pitt was lifeless, Orlando Bloom was a little ****. Terrible movie.
Well call me dumbest, but I'd put Dumb&Dumber on the list of personal great movies of a decade. We aren't talking about films that demonstrated the highest artistic talent, integrity, etc. we are talking about the best films as viewers. Give me Dumb&Dumber over The Pianist anyday.
