just like you bought into the "hype" of fight club.... you may not like it but dont go all high and mighty on the guy.
Come on people, movie taste is subjective. Just post your top 10 favorites of the decade and stop trying to **** on other people's lists. The internet is no place for quarreling.
fyi.. This is the first post -- on any forum -- that made me literally laugh out loud in more than a week. Nicely played sir.
I'm like Juan, its too hard, its easier for me just to complain about everyone else's. I'll try five There will be blood Memento Syriana The Ring Ray
1) Battlefield Earth 2) Freddy got Fingered 3) Gigli 4) From Justin to Kelly 5) The Hottie & the Nottie 6) Norbit 7) Super Babies: Baby Geniuses 2 (A MUST SEE REGARDLESS whether you saw the first. Only well done sequel all decade) 8) White Chicks 9) Death to Smoochy 10) Glitter
In no order Wall-E The Dark Knight Gladiator The Rules of Attraction LOTR Return of the King Kill Bill 1 & 2 The Bourne Identity 40 Year Old Virgin The Departed No Country for Old Men
The order is a little bit arbitrary because I loved ALL these movies to death and some could easily swap around if I thought about it a little longer: 1) No Country for Old Men -- The Coens' biggest triumph, and considering their movies, that is saying a LOT 2) There Will Be Blood -- Awesome movie in no small part because of DDL's amazing work. 3) Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind -- Is my favorite love story ever...and I can't see ever liking another one any better. The movie that convinced me that Carrey IS capable of being great in a non-comedic role. I really need to see Synedoche, NY because I love Charlie Kaufman's movies. 4) Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford -- Most beautiful movie on this list. Elicits so many different emotions throughout. Absolutely love Affleck and Pitt in this one. 5) Borat -- I love comedies and many have listed excellent ones in this list (40 Year Old Virgin, Knocked Up, Superbad, etc) but I don't know if I have ever laughed as hard in a movie theater as I did at this movie. Doesn't have the best replay value of most comedies, but that first viewing I hurt myself I laughed so hard. 6) The Fountain -- Pretty close to Jesse James in the realm of beautiful cinematography. It took me a little while to realize how much I loved this movie because some of the deeper meanings didn't register at first. But after I digested this one I can appreciate it on so many different levels now. I wish Hugh Jackman was seen as a bigger star. The guy is a damn fine actor. 7) Children of Men -- Cuaron has a bright future as a director. Some of the things he did in this movie are technically very impressive (although some might argue unnecessary and show-offy). The last 20-30 minutes of this movie had me gripping and on the edge of my seat like no other movie in this decade. Cuaron's long shots had a lot to do with that. 8) The Prestige -- Christopher Nolan is the real deal. This movie is almost perfect to me. So many people b**** about the unrealistic portions of it and some of the weird sci-fi aspects, but to me the movie isn't about that, it is merely a means to an end. I feel similarly about why I love Signs as a movie, despite the alien H2O intolerance. Michael Caine deserved Oscar recognition for his supporting role in this movie. Nolan really knows how to play to his strengths. 9) LOTR Trilogy -- Kind of cheating lumping them all together, but they really all tell the same long story so I don't feel too bad. Had this list been made a couple years ago, this would have been top 3 easily, but 2007 on has been good for good movies. Plus I've cooled a little on some of the LOTR stuff. 10) The Incredibles -- I will admit there are a couple Honorable Mentions that probably should take this place, but I feel like I should put a Pixar movie up here for no other reason than because they put out such consistently good work. I mean really, is there a safer bet for a great movie that the Pixar group? Even their "bad" movies like Bugs Life and Cars are still really good by most standards. Incredibles is easily my favorite of the bunch. Some of the action sequences in this movie are breathtaking and really give good examples of what CG movie studios should be aspiring to when you've got unlimited potential in a digital world. Wall-E and Up are both very close this movie on my favorite Pixar list. Honorable Mentions: Dark Knight -- Easily my favorite Batman movie and probably the best superhero/comic movie of all time, but not quite good enough to crack my top 10. Moon -- Wanted to fit this movie in to my top 10 because it was such a pleasant surprise and signifies the emergence of a good young director, Duncan Jones, from whom I expect many great movies. This also is a prime example of what good planning and sound spending can get you with today's technology. Only $5 million production budget and you get effects that look as good as anything else you saw this year (and that may include Avatar). Low budget, smart science fiction could be seeing a Renaissance very soon. I hope so. The Royal Tennenbaums -- I love Wes Anderson's movies. This is his best, I feel (although I haven't seen Darjeeling Limited yet...heard it isn't that great). He does such great work casting and creating characters. Gene Hackman and Ben Stiller are stellar in this (Huston, Paltrow and the Wilsons also). Frost/Nixon -- Just saw this last weekend. Still need a little distance to really grade it overall but I enjoyed the hell out of this movie. Ron Howard seems to have a real knack for making movies about real life events where you KNOW the outcome going in, but still manages to inject great tension despite that (see also Apollo 13). That to me speaks volumes about his skill as a director. I probably forgot some key movie that would bump something else out. I can never remember off the top of my head which movies I've seen in the last decade, but I think this is a pretty solid list.
Also one of my favorites I neglected is Sideways. It is near in dear to my heart because it was filmed around where I grew up and my Mom makes a cameo appearance.
Your list was offensive to me. Almost as offensive as A Lionsgate Feature starring Ludacris winning Best Picture in 2005.
infernal affairs dark knight iron man star trek crouching tiger hidden dragon lost in translation kill bill best in show american psycho It's really hard for me to make this list, as I'm not much of a movie goer and I have a lousy memory. I'm missing one more...maybe I'll get around to finally watching Donnie Darko tonight and see if it makes it.
Wow. I'm surprised by many of the responses. Try some of these The Lord of the Rings movies Pirates of the Carrbbean The Bourne Movies The Batman movies Spider-man movies The Harry Potter Movies Iron Man Rocky Balboa Star Trek Casino Royale Kill Bill Big Fish 300 Gladiator
i'm with you my list is incredibly biased for the last four years, one more I have to add, I'm getting to ten eventually, Cloverfield. I like innovation.
Ok. And the point of this thread was to list what you consider to be your Top 10 movies of the decade. Favorites. Personal Preference. This is purely arbitrary. This is not "I will list the 10 best movies of the Decade and you will agree with me or I will force-feed you a box of razor blades"
