I forgot what Comedian said it, but I love how when there is a rap discussion, people always ALWAYS need to throw beasties into it.

I like Beasties though, don't get me wrong, but I seem to get a kick out of it.

How can you guys seriously put 2Pac's "All Eyez on Me" ahead of "Me Against the World" because I just don't get it? Also, how could you have "The Chronic" and "Doggystyle" on the list together, as pgabriel said "Doggystyle" was basically an extension of "The Chronic" it was nothing groundbreaking though except for Snoop's career but a lot of rapper's have an album like that.

The fact that BTNH's "Art of War" is not on that list gives it zero credibility...

oh crap. i forgot me against the world. thats actually pacs best album. my bad on that one. i didnt even think that! its just whenever you think of all eyez on me, you think of classics like california love, 2 of americas most wanted, picture me rollin, etc.
all eyez on me is a close 2nd. i thought doggystyle was brillliant. easily snoops best album when he was in his prime. i rememeber when it first came out and how it actually proved that dr. dre's "the chronic" was no fluke. its gotta get more credit...

But you prove my point that "The Chronic" is enough on the list. "Doggystyle" proved that "The Chronic" was not a fluke, you said that yourself in your last post. Therefore it gave "The Chronic" that much more credibility.

I can see why some people rate "All Eyez on Me" as Pac's best work, because of the number of hit singles the album had but the album is a double disc and because of that both disc must be taken into account and when you do this and actually listen to the music you realize that "All Eyez on Me" is filled with a lot of, well filler music. I give it props for being the first sucessfull double rap album (close to 10 million copies sold last time I checked) but the only double rap albums that have come close to it it terms of success and material have been "Life After Death" and maybe "Wu-Tang Forever" and the tragedy that "All Eyez on Me" created was a long list of double albums released by rap artists who released double albums of mostly crap.

Rakim should be #1, Jay-Z should be nowhere near #1. Where is Public Enemy? Big Daddy Kane?

No way in hell! They started to 'fall off' AFTER that album, because no matter how hard they tried they couldn't top it.

That was a great album dude, I can't believe you'ld say that! ;)

Nas is freakin' great! I truly believe he's one of the most underrated rappers ever. The guy has it all: great lyrics and great delivery. The only thing that might've hurt him somewhat is that he wasn't "mainstream" like Jay-Z was.

    I'd take out:
Raising Hell - I love Run-DMC and cannot deny their significance as hip-hop pioneers, but I think they've been bested by newer rappers.
Death Certificate - not a bad album either, but there are better albums that deserve to be up there
Don Killuminati - same as above. I also agree that All Eyez On Me is great, but has too much filler.

    and I'd add:
Raekwon - Only Built 4 Cuban Linx: IMO the best hip-hop album of the 90's
A Tribe Called Quest - The Low End Theory: already been explained
Black Star - Mos Def and Talib Kweli are Black Star: fantastic and relatively unknown album unless you're into hip-hop
