why is it nuts? tupac is not the best rapper lyrically, not even close, even his fans will admit that. rakim is great, but how many great songs or albums does he have. he doesn't really have the body of work. Biggie, I can understand the complaint, but not jay-z.

jay-z is undeniably top five lyracists ever. its not even debatable, and that has to be at the top of your criteria when ranking rappers. the only rappers in the last ten years to even be considered with him lyrically is nas, and maybe eminem.

what I don't get is the hate for jay-z. if you want to know how great jay-z is, ask other rappers.

Agreed, Jay and Biggie were good but they are severely overrated on every rap list.

Every "Best Rap This That" you see Jay-Z, Biggie above Pac and Nas and it pisses me off because I've listened to all 4 of them, Biggie and Jay may have had the hits and the production, but Nas and Pac had the lyrics and substance that changed the game. Not to mention when it came to the diss tracks, Pac's Hit Em up and Nas' Ether are 1-2 and nobody should be even trying to dispute that.

Tupac is easily the best MC of all time, Nas and Eminem are somewhere on the list and Outkast is in there as well.

Agree with everything you said except the Eminem part. That guy is overrated, overhyped, all of that. I hate Eminem. He's not even the best white rapper alive. Anyone listen to Atmosphere? Slug's lyrics are a million times more substansive than the guy named after a freaking candy.

Jay-Z has no business being #1 on that list. The biggest omissions that I can think of:

    Geto Boys - Uncut Dope
Public Enemy - Fear of a Black Planet
2PAC - All Eyez on Me
    Snoop Dogg - Doggystyle
Notorious BIG - Life After Death
    Outkast - Southernplayalistic

Also, I used to play the hell out of the first DMX album, It's Dark and Hell is Hot.

everyone says jay-z shouldn't be on the list but no one makes an argument. this is the last thing a i will say, he's a professional rapper. that's how I look at him. he takes it very serious as an artform and as a forum even though some may feel he's very commercialized.

the one guy I think is missing is Ice Cube.

like other rappers don't have their own agendas.

Tupac help usher the gangsta rap era and diss songs. Whether or not you think it added to the integrity of rap music, he paved much of the way for the rappers of the 90's. He brought a new era of rap and shone new light on the hardcore rappers.

Also, Pac had ideas, depth, issues with morality, ethics and the state of America. It wasn't about gucci or prada all the time. He stood for change.

there was no hardcore rap before tupac, are you kidding? you ever heard of nwa, ghetto boys, schooly D, kool g rap, etc. diss songs were around before tupac also. the only lasting impression he has had are the silly beefs these rappers get in. the newest one is lil bow wow vs. lil romeo. there's nothing admirable about that.

I actually have no problem with jay-Z being on the list even though he bit off some other rappers but I think every rapper does that. Ice Cube was on the list, at number 8.

How did Biggie pave the way for East Coast rap, I think Nas did more than him in that aspect.

The fact that MTV (promoter of pop garbage) came out with a list of top rappers and rap albums is a joke in itself. They have zero credability in this area. Tupac's "don killuminati" is NOT even his best album and they have it as one of the best of all time? Ice Cube a top 10 great rapper...hahaha...he hasn't been a real rapper since the mid-90's. Eminem? He is very talented lyrically but not a top 10 of all time. I gotta give them credit for NOT put 50 cents on there.
