Not in order of anti-importance: Dale Ellis - how many big shots did this guy hit against us Xavier McDaniel - same for the x man - b*stard Malone - needs no explanation Stockton - same, pasty gangsta Jerry Sichting - got into that damn fight with Sampson, and sparked a Celtic frenzy that makes me shudder to this day Derrick Chievous - I liked nothing about him; not the bandaid, not the screwed up mug on the free throws, and not the fact that he thought he could play. Scottie Pippen - what's to like? He brought us nothing but big words, broken promises, and failed leadership blah blah blah....loser. Charles Oakley - oh wait, we just signed him. Damn. What a thug. Nothing to do with the Rockets, but I just cannot stand this idiot. Derek Harper - ugh, he was such a hacker and got so much praise for his defense (he was actually working on his black belt, as it turns out, always chopping, slapping and hacking to steal the ball). He even admitted to using his off hand to hold the hip of the dribbling player to keep them from turning away, and then swiping at the ball with the other.
Pippen Marbury Schrempf Payton Mason Oakley (to hell with the no current Rocket rule) Malone Jordan Bryant (Barkley gets a bye for later coming to our side)
from back in the day: ricky pierce, nate macmillan and all the sonics from 92-96 (we couldnt beat em) stockton (97 game 6) anderson, ostertag i also hate terry mills for shouting ya motherf**ker at hakeem when he hit a three to be us a detroit when dream slipped and how can you guys forget JAKE ODONNELL (the ref) ,he had a grudge against us.
Good post. I can't seem to put them into a hierarchy, but here they are: ***The Rockets have had the least amount of play-off success against the Sonics and they deserve a special place of this list for that. Dale Ellis – killed us in the play-offs in the late 80s early 90s. Tom Chambers – I still remember a sign held up by a Sonics’ fan at the all-star game in ‘88 or so, it said “Chambers Better than Sampson” (CBS). If you look at Chambers’ career stats he is better than Sampson (top 30 all-time NBA scorers!), but he’s such a weenie. Gary Patton – could score at will and take the ball from us at will, boy I hated that! Danny Ainge – I wish Sampson would have punched him in ‘86 instead of what’s-him-name but at least Horry threw a towel over his face. Shaq – sure would be nice if Rocket players were allowed to commit 15 fouls a game. Joe Klein – maybe I should thank him so talking trash to Mario and giving us the kiss but I just don’t like the guy. Kevin McHale – 2nd most annoying Celtic after Ainge. Malone\Stockton – these two belong together. Pat Riley – He’s the only member of the Showtime Lakers I have negative feelings for.
This is exactly as I remembered it...ange beamed it off of the back of elie's head - trying to inbounds the ball from the baseline.
Not the most-hated, but he hasn't yet been named . . . . Kevin Johson. He torched Kenny Smith. There was a season that he averaged 40 points against the Rockets. Literally. 40 points. Plus there was that poster-dunk on Hakeem that gets replayed way, way too much. And you know what I hate about that dunk? It was in garbage time in a blowout Rockets victory. The game was over. Hakeem was mostly just waiting for the clock to hit 0. And then KJ throws down this monster-jam that makes the all-time highlight reel. Thank god we won that series, otherwise my hatred would run far deeper.
Mark Madsen! I could not stand his silly but cheering like a highscool cheerleader whenever the lakers score on us much less when he ocassionally did.
Najera: dirty player. He'll knock you down for no reason then flop and whine as if he was hit. It's one thing to play tough, it's totally another thing to play by cheating! Karl Malone: too things I can't stand --- his elbows and the way he plays layup: his knee is always up high in front so if you want to draw a foul go ahead and get injured. Why haven't anyone done the same thing to him??? Amare & Marbury: their bball skills are good but they are classless! two things I particularly hate: they made fun of Marbury's crossover on Yao all the time (SF3 did the same thing SEVERAL times in a recent game on the oppositing PG, have you heard anything about it from any Rox players), and the repeated showing (on TNT I think) of Marbury making a crying face (I believe he was making fun of the other team). Do they have any respect at all for the game and for the other players??? Players I don't like for no particular reason: Mark Madsen, Croshire and the other white center of the Pacers. Teams I don't like: Suns (obviously), Mavs (mostly for Cuban), Celtics (I don't any feeling about this team actually but Tom Heinson gets into my skin --- to him the Cs are fouled all the time and any call against the Cs are bad calls -- several times the regular analyst Mike Gorman got into big arguments with him. I kind of enjoy it when he complains then the replay shows otherwise. --- please don't tell me all the local broadcast are like this. I've seen enough on NBALP but no other is as irritating. Well, maybe the portland ones when they complained about the refs when the refs gave them 75% of the calls in the game.)
Nice to see this reference, and Jake O'Donnell too. I'm surprised no one's mentioned Mitch "I'm-Just-Here-To-Provoke-Akeem" Kupchak after his bull**** in the 1986 WCF.
Well, Kagy, it's like Borges said. The names of all (basketball hacks) are but written on the surface of a lake. But it's true: I never thought Sichting would be forgotten this quickly. I'm very glad he didn't end up in any significant coaching spot -- that's what I had expected.
1.John Stockton (as a matter of fact EVERYONE on the Jazz) 2. Karl Malon (see above) 3.Rick Fox 4.Kobe Bryant 5.Shaquille O'Neal (these are a package deal also) 6.Gary Payton (damn, he's a Laker now, too) 7.Danny Ainge (a timeless hatred for this one-celled animal) 8.Raja Bell 9. Doug Christie 10. John Starks
Despite his torching of the Rockets, I've always loved KJ. And, I was especially happy for him with that dunk on Dream. It's easy to be magnanimous about it since we won anyway. But, he was the only Sun who could do anything that game.
they could at least balance out the all-time highlight reel if they would follow up kj's dunk with hakeem's legendary full court sprint to block kj's breakaway dunk. for my money, that and the rod strickland block are the two most incredible/improbable blocks ever. was mitch kupchak the guy hakeem was beating the crap out of before the fight got broken up by others. being only 5 at the time, i've never seen it, but it seems like there's one hakeem fight (from the many to choose from) people always say hakeem was ust wailing on the dude before it got broken up.
I was only 9 that season so I don't remember the exact backlash in Houston towards those two players. But why do we hate them when we ended up winning those games?
