Jordan was only retired for one year.. in 95 he had the best playoff averages of his career but didn't make the finals.
I think obvious ones should be omitted. I mean Hakeem was an obvious pick, as well as Yao. Moves that either weren't so obvious but paid huge dividends are the ones I get excited about. Or when you completely plunder a team for a former scoring champions corpse. That's nice

Gay For battier alone is good enough after considering we got rid of S.Swift...... It was a great trade
this is why we need the negative rep! who has a quadruple double and almost got another one? who played first in the NBA Finals? who is the only player that got the MVP, Defensive Player of the Year, and Finals MVP? You can see how great Hakeem was, because no one questions the rockets about taking Hakeem before Jordan. you didnt watch a single game of Hakeem playing how he destroyed teams and other elite centers.
1 Drafting Olajuwon 2 Trading Ralph Sampson 3 Hiring Rudy Tomjanavich as head coach 4 Trading for Clyde Drexler 5 Hiring Daryl Morey 6 Drafting Yao Ming 7 Signing Mario Elie 8 Trading for Kenny Smith 9 Drafting Sam Cassell 10 Drafting Robert Horry
The Rockets have never been ridiculed for selecting Dream first in that draft. That just shows you how great Hakeem was. The best player in history was selected after him, and still, nobody considers the Rockets choice as a mistake.
As I have said earlier, in principle, it was actually very good low risk move. The Rockets only gave up a 2nd Round Draft Choice and Roy Rogers. Do you want to see Roy Rogers career averages? http://www.basketball-reference.com/players/r/rogerro02.html
Dikembe Mutombo? Haven't seen anyone mention him. A world class human being who was a fan favorite until he retired. One of the best Free Agent signings by far.
