Stevie Wonder might fall if he runs, so they can just leave him on the other end of the court to cherry pick.
I do watch Chappelle's Show, but unfortunately I've missed a lot of this new season so far...I am ashamed.
This doesn't really address the issue. You made the comment that blacks are 'under-represented' in baseball. Based on what? Proportionate to the general population? If that's not what you are referring to, then you apparently mean that there is an implicit arbitrary percentage that should be playing, but isn't. Before I respond further, I'm extremely interested in gaining clarification on your definition of 'under-represented'. I'm not trying to pick, I'm just curious. In addition, someone had mentioned the Astros to illustrate such 'under-representation'. Sorry, but that's an ineffective argument. You have to go a little deeper to get there. We always have to look at the converse to see how things tend to work both ways. By this, look at, say, Georgetown. As a university, it is over 90% white. How many white players played for John Thompson? The answer is not a heck of alot. Now, is this because he didn't *recruit* white players, or is this because there were simply no white players who could have possibly played for Georgetown over the years. If the answer would be that 'hey, there were just no players that could have added anything to the team that were white', then I could understand that. But, of course this isn't true. There are Div. I players all over the country that would have loved to go to a storied program such as Georgetown, played for a coach with Thompson's status, and enjoyed the experience of going to a first-rate university. And some of these players would be, yes, white. Using the Astros example about 'under-representation', one also has to look at other situations and come to the same conclusions. The ultimate issues are material and analogous. If you say about Georgetown that it 'just seemed to work out that way', 'maybe it was just coincidence about the lack of white players on the basketball team', then fine. To be intellectually honest, you must then hold out the same possibility for the Astros' lack of black players during this time. We always seem to have a problem consistently extrapolating circumstances that go both for our point and against it. We tend to try to *distinguish* why our original point is right and how some other situation brought to our attention is, somehow, 'different' when analyzing the material issues. It is important to be able to step back, look at the big picture and realize the 'knife' of life tends to cut both ways.
What are you rambling about? It's straight forward to me. Blacks are not intrested in baseball. Hence there are not many playing the game, period. Not just professionally, but at all levels. You're so making a big deal out of nothing.
even though i had W. Michigan beating nc st. in this round (and thus the game meant nothing for my brackets) and i wanted NC St. to lose b/c i thought they got an undeserved 3 seed, that intentional foul call was friggin rough. it was wrong and basically cost them the game. unless you're blind or being paid large sums of money by vanderbilt university, how do you not notice that their feet got tangled and call an intentional foul? i mean it was ludicrous. i knew it was wrong, the announcers immediately knew it was wrong, why not the refs? why not discuss it and take it back? at best the game would've been 71-67 and NC could've run the clock down to about a minute on their next possession. instead they hit a tough 3 and now nc st basically has the same amount of time and their lead is 1 which was crap. if nc st runs clock on both possessions vandy would probably have only had 2 possessions to make up the 4 point deficit, assuming state didn't score also. nc st. shot themselves in the foot with the two 3 point shot fouls and the backdoor layup, but man. so basically i got what i wanted as the final result but since i didn't hate them it's tough to see a team that should've won lose thanks to a bad call by the refs.
true.. but there are bad calls throughout the game. a tip in that was called off when it should have been a 3 pt play to put us in lead etc that change momentum. the call wasn't good, but it's part of the game... maybe they shouldn't have called it an intentional foul but I think he did mean to foul the guy.
i turn 21 on thurs. and they play in sweet 16... I have to go! Plane tickets on this short notice would cost a fortune though
I guess I should wait and see what the ticket situation for the game is anyways.. this weekend they were offering them to students for 35.. but I don't know how things will be for sweet 16... now it's time to study for a test so I can head over to memorial for the meet the team party later lol.. vandy needs to get a chartered plane for us fans ..
Thats a good question. I think she is thought of as a great Australian athlete first...but its hard to look past her being a great Aboriginal athlete. Cathy Freeman is a bit of a different case though. In her career she has always been very upfront and proud to be Aboriginal. Remember she once carried an Australian AND Aboriginal flag around the stadium after a big win. Her Aboriginality is something she has put a focus on during her career. We have a HEAP of Aboriginal football players and that are hardly ever singled out unless they are doing something for the Aboriginal comunity or talking about it themselves. Its a bit different when someone comes out and actively promotes the fact they are Aboriginal like Freeman does. I just cant believe that these days people still bring the race issue into sport.
hmm I have a decison to make. vandy put a trip together for 1000 that they will pay half of.. so for 500... leave thurs, come back sat night tickets to the 3 games.. airfare hotel sound good?
You should definitely do that. You will kick yourself if you pass it up. Your next chance might be a long, long time from now.
bigtexxx... Yeah I'm trying to tell my parents that is pretty cheap for that trip.. and I believe it's a chartered plane too.. I'll pay myself it I have to they just aren't huge sports fans and don't see much significance in going to the sweet 16 to watch them lose I might get a chance later down the road, but it wouldn't be the same once I'm not a student.. I'll try to get this done for sure! oh and plus thursday is my 21st birthday!
