Ok, I'm so glad there was not "more than meets the eye"... yikes. Thought I was taking a risk clicking that link.
Autobox, transform!!! Am I the only person who likes all the cartoons people here seem to be taking sides with?
Don't tell me you liked Captain Planet too. That's just sick. I suppose you watched "My Little Pony" as well? Also, great job on those Talespin lyrics m_cable. Hardest to remember, imo.
I was a huge Duck Tales fan as a kid. I would spend elementary school study hall writing my own Duck Tales stories. I wish I still had some of those. I absolutely hated Rescue Rangers, however. Not entirely sure why. Tale Spin was good, though. As far as Transformers go, I must be the only person in the world who much preferred the post-"Transformers: The Movie" version of the cartoon show. I liked the characters a lot more, even though they're hardly iconic. In fact, I can't really name too many outside of Rodamus Prime and Goldbug. It pisses me off, but I can't remember for the life of me the name of the guy who was from the junk planet in the movie whose language skills consisted only of bits of dialogue picked up from Earth tv. That guy was great. These later seasons could have benefitted from Megatron and Starscream, however. They were the best part of the old episodes. For some reason, I always really hated Optimus Prime; I think I felt he was too arrogant. I dunno, I was kind of a weird kid.
I said the cartoons people are taking sides on. Nobody mentioned my little pony and Captain Planet was brought up in a negative sense. BTW, nobody has mentioned some other good ones like Darkwing Duck MASK Beetlejuice Dinoriders Dinosaucers Eek! the Cat Garfield and Friends The Real Ghostbusters Heathcliff He-Man Robotech Voltron
Race cars, lasers, airplanes, it's a, duck blur! You might solve a mystery... or rewrite hiiiiiiiistory! D,d,d,d,DANGER! Right behind you, there's a stranger out to find you! La la la! /Hides...
lol... I got so excited to post lyrics I remembered that I didn't even take the time to read the rest of the thread to see that someone else had already done it...
I was there for Speed Racer, Laff-a-lympics, Speed Buggy, and I think I remember Herculoids, and how can we forget the Super Friends.
Youngsters... "Here I come to save the day..." Mighty Mouse "Watch me pull a rabbit out of my hat..." Bullwinkle "There's no need to fear, Underdog is here..." Underdog and no one could touch Felix the Cat
I'm pretty sure Fritz the Cat could...... I remember : Hong Kong Phooey SuperGlobetrotters Shazam And to the native Houstonians on this board..... Does anyone remember Channel 26's (before Fox) little "Kids" thing back in the 70's? It was basically a bunch of sillouetted kids in that neo-70's look scrolling sideways across the screen. Used to come on before EVERY cartoon. Bugged the piss out of me.
I didn't get any responses to the Classic Cartoon Channel "Boomerang" thread I started a while back. I love that channel! http://www.cartoonnetwork.com/tv_shows/boomerang/index.html
That reminded me of something! Does anyone remember the local show where a kid whould have to call into the station to get to play a video game over the phone for prizes? The kid would have to say "pow" over the phone to shoot while Atari's "Air Sea Battle" was broadcasted on tv.
*raises hand too* Don't you dare diss My Little Pony. I'll kick your ass! (j/k) Care Bears, Rainbow Brite, and Strawberry Shortcake were the bomb too! I also watched Gummi Bears and Wuzzles, if anybody remembers those.
I was always a big fan of Scooby Doo and Heckel and Jeckel. I always loved the shows that ran directly after the cartoon block in Sacramento. The A-Team and Airwolf.
Y'know, in these nostalgic discussions, everyone usually goes crazy when someone finally mentions Fraggle Rock. So I'll do it first, "Fraggle Rock." Now, with that done, I have to give much love to later classics like Tiny Toons, Garfield and Friends, Animaniacs, Batman: The Animated Series, and Gargoyless. Those kept me tuned in to cartoons after I got too mature for the standard Disney fare. Also, Darkwing Duck was okay. A little too goofy for my tastes, but the theme song kicked ass.
