right now tony parker is playing as good if not better than anyone in the playoffs. his stats might not be as good as some of the other palyers, but watching him play right now is something else.

Yes, because all the arguments in support of Francis have focused entirely on his leaping ability.

This is exactly what I mean by too many people stereotyping Steve's game. It's going way too far, and it gets more noticeable and annoying everyday.

It is so funny to me. . .
    that the PARKER LOVERS/Steve Haters
    are ok with this

3rd year player . . .waving off a PROVEN MVP

    BUT
Let a PROVEN SF wave off and UNPROVEN YAO

and they GO BALLISTIC and LOSE THEIR FRICKING MINDS

    Rocket River
. . . if he did it twice they would put a contract on SF

Let me spell it out for u.
U said TP has good assists number 'cause his team mates shoot better than Steve's teammates.
    That is completly false.
And I only need 1 stat to prove that!

I can't believe I'm posting on this stupid topic, but here we go.

DAVIDS posted everything anyone needs to read. His posts were perfect. He explained everything, backed it up, gave an opinion supported by facts, clearly explained what he saw on the court and he's called a 'Steve-hater.'

    Unbelievable!!

    Here's the deal - CHEMISTRY!!!!!!!!

It's not here. Steve is not the type of player that lends himself to chemistry. Good or bad - he doesn't! Anyone can see that he's an individualistic type player. As for TP, anyone can see that he's a team type player. Right? I mean, we're not engaging with anyone here in this group that can honestl say that TP is NOT a team first player? Right?

TP is freaking 21, is eloquent, speaks very intelligently regarding the offense and its philosophy, and knows how to run a team. He waves off Tim D so TIM D can get in a position to take a better shot. SF3 waves off Yao so he can do some skip step twist shot that DOES NOT GO IN!! (I'm not even going to get into how poor of a finisher he is!) Has anyone watched the ball-handling skills of TP? He dribbles like a great oil painter! SF3?? He dribbles like a house painter. Both painters - but pretty different styles!

San An would not trade TP or Gino for SF3 - period!! Never!! Ever!! Never!! Ever!! If you're older than 14, know basketball, watch with an open mind, you'll see that San An would not trade TP or Gino for SF3 - period!! Never!! Ever!! Never!! Ever!!

Parker has potential to be great. SF3 does not. His time has come and gone. He needs to hope that he fits in somewhere and can contribute. Steve may work somewhere else - he really might! But HE DOES NOT HERE!! Why??

    CHEMISTRY!!!!!!!!

Why does no one care about Chemistry? And for those who do, why are they called Steve-haters???

It's ridiculous...it's so obvious to me and virtually every announcer, sports commentator, news-paper writer, businessman, civic leader, computer analyst, dog-trainer, recruiter, high school teacher and every intelligent sports fan that SF3 does not FIT here.

Anyway, my days of discussing SF3 are over. But there was one time when Steve was dribbling....and dribbling...etc...

Difference is that Parker was "yelling" at Duncan and Bowen to set up a side screen and roll the intention to get the ball to Duncan for an easy open look that worked to perfection. Francis would not direct Yao to the right place and would likely end up driving into a double team or jacking up a last second shot.

Couple of anecdotes that relate to Parker.

Before the draft they test draftees for leadership skills, intelligence, decsion making skills, competitiveness, maturity, etc. A guy in Toronto does it. Parker was off the charts and the guy raved about him.

Spurs first saw Paker at 17 in a Nike Hoops international competition playing against US high school all-Americans like Randall, Miles. Parker led the international team and outplayed all US guards. Miles and Randall were high fiving, posing after every play. Parker was all business, making the internationals competitive with the US team.

As striker said, he didn't 'wave' anyone off; he directed Duncan into a screen for which TD was completely lost on at the time.

And I don't know what you're talking about with Yao, since I've never said any such thing; but only an idiot would abandon the post game when you have a good center, or fail to establish it at all, which is what the Rox did a lot of early on.

If I ever saw Parker ignore Duncan or wave him off, I'd say he deserved a good smack.

Don't worry, A LOT of people agree with you. I hear it all the time- from friends, at work, on the radio, at the Y, on ESPN, in the Chronicle, even Calvin and Bill! The list goes on.

My friend (who moved to North Carolina) had an interesting point about Francis:
"an interesting aspect i get here is francis's playing ability at maryland. you remember, francis was the PG with a bunch of freshman trying to learn, and every person at my company, whether they're UNC or Duke fans, all hated to see francis leave early. why? because as long as francis was there, the other players at maryland weren't able to play up to their potential and he didn't buy into william's system. the year after he leaves, look who blossomed there -- juan dixon, lonny baxter, and steve blake. just an interesting aside."

    Doc Rocket is right.

No one hates Steve as a person.

He just doesn't fit with Yao.

And I will hitch my wagon to the 7'6" guy with the skills of a small forward any day over a 6'3" dribbling & turnover machine.

Steve is an athletic player, but what happens when his athleticism starts to wane? He won't be able to get by on brains....so what do you have then?

    Nothing.

When Yao's athleticism is waning, he will still be 7'6".

    Case CLOSED !!

There were already signs this past season that his athleticism is already starting to go. On so many occasions Steve blew lay-ups where in the past he would have slammed it down the opponents throat. When a player plays the amount of minutes Steve has played in his career and plays so recklessly taking so many hard falls on the court, he’s bound to have a short career.

That's why I'd prefer having a super-quick point guard like Tony Parker that can avoid contact rather than a point guard that jumps really high because when small players spend a lot of time in the air, they are bound to take some really hard falls.

Next time avoid making up phanthom stats and storie.

    Liar!

Instead of complaining and attacking a more reasonable GATER, why not double check your claims and yes.....get your nose off Stevie's jock. It is sooo obvious.

They won a national title two years after he left Maryland.

At that time I was living in Baltimore. Lots of people are crazy over SF3's athletic ablities and believed that he could lead them to a FF. Look what happened? A zone defense slowed SF3 down to 3-13 shooting, Maryland was blown out and sent back home after second round.

Chemistry- what the heck does that have to do with this thread? Is Steve a better player than Parker-- the answer is yes. The same as if we would ask... is Shaq better than Yao. (The answer would also be yes) It has nothing to do with age, it has nothing to do with teammates, it has nothing to do with what happened in college... Who is better? SF is a better player. Also, you're losing credibility with me when you confuse your opinions with your contacts opinions.(not that you care) "San An would not trade TP or Gino for SF3 - period!! Never!! Ever!! Never!! Ever!!" BS!!!!!!!!

You know, I find it funny when a so-called insider confuses his contact's opinion with his basketball opinion.

I have plenty to say but I will hold my tongue!!!!!!

Shaq > Yao = duh! Although the gap between Shaq and Yao (today) is much less than the gape between Parker and Francis in terms of comlete talent.

As far as your "Shaq is to Yao as Francis is to Parker" analogy. Nice try, but you are way off! I mean, you didn't even state your points in order to support your claim. But rather, you ended with a very peculiar: "I'll hold my tongue..."

So, please. Don't hold your tongue. Tell us how Francis can jump higher than Parker.

    "So-callled insider?"

Seems to me that your post stems from your opinion of Doc Rocket rather than any reasonable debate about Parker and Francis...See your post below from Doc's other thread...

    uhh..I don't know..uhh...playing with others??

(Vomiting at witnessing a written hummer) Better player?? At doing what?

First off, who's 'we?' You and me?? You and this BBS? You and other announcers around the league? You and his teammates? You and basketball experts? You and the "We're gay with Steve club?' You and that other dude who they think Steve is the best player on the planet? It's got to be someone when you say 'we' but I can't imagine who it is. It's not GM's, Centers, owners, announcers, coaches or trainers..I KNOW THAT!! Why? Because, like us, we DON'T think he's the best, we DON'T think he's better than Parker, we DON'T think he's the second coming, and we DON'T think he's the one to lead this team. The funny thing, like I've said may times before but yo summarily forget, I like Steve - I don't think he's the point guard for us. But then, I'm an 'INSIDER' so I only know what's told to me? Right? Well, you know what was told to me about you??? Ahh forget it...

If he's not playing with teammates how is he playing basketball?? OH!! He must be by himself in his backyard where he perfected his game. I see, because he still plays that 1 on 1 game now! (Insert sarcastic whining tone here) 'It's not about his teammates. It's about Stevie. He's better..he's just better!'

How stupid is that statement? Huh? Now that you re-read it, you must see it's stupidity??? Right? Teammates?? The guys he plays with?? Remember? If age, chemistry, and being teammate do NOT determine if a player is good (I still can't get over how stupid that is!!) then why isn't Magic, Larry, and MJ still playing? It doesn't matter if they're 45! Right? It doesn't matter if the other 4 guys show up! Right? It doesn't matter if they've ever played together, like each other, or have a feeling where the other guy's going to be on the court! Right??

With my who? Contacts? I love it when so-called posters, in this case moomoo, calls me a so-called insider? Who the hell cares who's a 'insider?' Do you? I don't care one freaking bit. Like everyone else here, if we get info, we post it. Period!! There are no insiders, there are no pre-trade psychics, and there are no moomoos in a BBS.

I'll say it again, moo....San An would not trade TP or Gino for SF3 - period!! Never!! Ever!! Never!! Ever!! Never!! Ever!! Never!! Ever!! Never!! Ever!! Never!! Ever!! Never!! Ever!! Never!! Ever!! Never!! Ever!! Never!! Ever!! Never!! Ever!! Never!! Ever!! Never!! Ever!! Never!! Ever!! Never!! Ever!! Never!! Ever!! Never!! Ever!! Never!! Ever!! Never!! Ever!! Never!! Ever!! Never!! Ever!! Never!! Ever!! Never!! Ever!! Never!! Ever!! Never!! Ever!! Never!! Ever!! Never!! Ever!! Never!! Ever!! Never!! Ever!! Never!! Ever!! Never!! Ever!! Never!! Ever!! "

Please don't hold your tongue for me.............

........give it to Steve again. Oh, and the next time you make an argument - make it an ARGUMENT not a written hummer. It sounds ridiculous.
