Remeber why we couldn't figure out what really changed between the time Watson signed his extension and requested a trade?

Now we know what he was running from. #THEOIL

Who couldn’t figure it out? Multiple articles stated why Watson wanted out, same reason why Rootes ended up quitting, same reason why AJ blew up on the franchise.

DW4 is apparently a super sleaze bag at the very minimum, but this narrative takes away the fact that Cal has made a ton of piss poor decisions, alienating a lot of people along the way.

watson is at minimum a weirdo.

    He has no choice-
after settling he needs to come on tv repent, say he is a sex addict ..sorry and ask for forgiveness..lord etc.

Serve suspension some games.. back by week 8

People love a comeback..if he tries to be defiant imo he will be looked down on by more people.

In something like this people love humility.

    He doesnt get that

    Yes Cal did make mistakes.

His biggest mistake was letting the Oily Watson have any say at all in the GM/HC hirings.

*After settling* is the key here so we’ll see if he actually gets it. Pretty sure Rusty’s instructions right now are to STFU. Completely agree otherwise.

Pretty sure moving to a different city doesn't stop lawsuits from being filed against you... Was he going to be in some kind of better situation in New York with their media right now?

Not sure what team you are following but Watson didn’t have any say, neither did his team President, the search firm he hired or the so-called search committee he personally put together.

Now if you say his biggest mistake was *promising* DW4 he’d have a say, then you might be right. But then again, that was just another mistake on Cal’s part.

I think he had simply run through all the unlicensed masseuses of interest in Houston.

There's a difference between someone having "a say" and someone having the ONLY say.

He was allowed to give his input, they opted to go a different direction. That doesn't mean he had no say, it just means he wasn't the person in charge.

Given how much he adored Bill O'Brien, it's probably a REALLY good thing that Watson didn't get to make those decisions.

Sure but Watson wasn’t the only one pissed about how Cal went about things either. His team President quit, AJ openly bashed him, and Watt didn’t want anything to do with the franchise shortly after as well.

And to be clear, I’m not defending how Watson went about things. But don’t see how this most recent report all of a sudden absolves Cal from DW4 wanting out.

    Cal gave him say.

    Just not the ultimate say.

We thought that's why he wanted to be traded. Now we know differently.

Lawyers have told me it's harder to get justice civilly If the accused moves out of state

Maybe one of the lawyers on this MB can weigh in on this topic.

You think Oscar the grouch banging trash cans is bad, I'm talking about oil cans, giant finger hats and worse I'm sure

You are trying to relate the two issues when there is no logical reasoning behind it. There were multiple reports citing why he wanted out, it’s the same reason why Rootes resigned after 20+ years on the job and why André Johnson called out the entire organization.

I'm a lawyer and this is absolute nonsense. No competent lawyer will tell you that.

I was just joking. But given this weird story, that may have been hard to tell.

Deshaun Watson’s deposition won’t happen before Super Bowl LVI

Deshaun Watson recently posted a video of his preparations for the 2021 football season. This suggests that he believes he’ll play football this year.

His optimism also shows up in the specific plans being made for the litigation of the 22 lawsuits filed against him.

The “agreed docket control order” in the cases, which was signed by the presiding judge on May 10, provides that Watson’s sworn deposition won’t be taken before February 22, 2022. That’s nine days after the next Super Bowl is played.

As a practical matter, this ensures that the lawsuits won’t interfere with his football career until the coming season has ended. That becomes irrelevant, of course, if the NFL places him on paid leave pending the resolution of the cases.

So here’s the question: Does the engineering of the deposition schedule arise from confidence within Watson’s camp that he won’t be placed on paid leave? In other words, do Watson and his lawyers/agents believe he’ll be permitted to play this year?

Deposition of the plaintiffs may be taken as of September 13, 2021. With 22 plaintiffs to be questioned, more than a month of business days will be needed to finish all of them. Other fact witnesses likely will be questioned, including (but perhaps not limited to) reins and family members to whom the plaintiffs may have made comments relevant to the situation.

No specific trial date has been set. The pre-trial discovery process ends on March 25. A pre-trial status conference, during which the trial date likely will be set, is scheduled for May 2, 2022.

A settlement can happen at any time. If there’s no settlement before training camp opens, Watson will have to decide whether to show up (prediction: he will), the Texans will have to decide whether to trade him (they currently have five on the roster), and other teams will have to decide whether to make the deal despite the looming possibility of paid leave.

Will the NFL place Deshaun Watson on paid leave?

    […]

So here’s how it likely will go. Barring a dramatic change in the pending civil cases or criminal investigation, Watson won’t be traded. He’ll show up for training camp with the Texans. Then, the league either will — or won’t — direct him to go home at full pay until further notice, and possibly until each of the 22 lawsuits are resolved.
