It should not use scissors or even a scalpel for most of the procedure. If the person doing this surgery is looking to really use scissors instead of a newer technique, find a new surgeon.
Had one around age 28 (32 now). 1. Imagine your worst sore throat, then multiply it by around 3. It honestly does feel like you're swallowing glass. 2. Cold, COLD water is going to be your best friend. Ice chips are going to be second best friend. 3. What I liked eating after I had the surgery was jello, applesauce and about a week out, yogurt. I didn't like either ice cream or milk or things like that, because it felt like it coated my surgery sites and that felt quite uncomfortable to me. Don't ask me why I didn't really feel that with yogurt...doesn't make sense...but I didn't. 4. I lost a solid 15 lbs with that diet, and it definitely kicked started my weight loss. 5. I went around 4 weeks until I felt for the most part normal and could actually start eating more solid foods without feeling like I wanted to tear out my throat. That being said, even though I know everything I went through for that surgery, I would do it again in a heartbeat. I'm breathing better, I'm not getting sick as much, I don't snore as much and don't suffer from sleep apnea anymore. Also, since I'm a singer, the tonsils don't get in my way anymore as I'm singing. They used to gag me if I sang certain notes. So, if your Dr. does think it's needed, definitely do it.
