Actually, this last season, it was more based on the fact that JVG didn't think Steve could play the 2.
You know, I don’t mind MacBeth repeating pretty much the same thing I said several posts later because I’m pretty sure he didn’t do it on purpose. But it’s frustrating seeing him get credit for the “great post” when I was the first one to make the point. Oh, well. End of whine … can’t wait for tomorrow!
Perhaps Orlando figured that since there was no football team in Orlando then they would have no problem with Steve

FA (Fisher or Barry)-Lue TMac-Gaines-Pike Jackson-Nachbar Howard-Taylor Yao-FA (Skinner?) This is a definitely an improved lineup from last years. I will miss Steve but we're adding much more smarts to the team, while improving the shooting as well. Howard is old, but is still able to do some dirty work. Nelson Francis Butler (for Mobley/Gooden) D. Howard Cato This isn't a bad lineup either. Nelson and Francis would be one of the quickest backcourts in the league. Butler would be another source for points. We'll see how D. Howard performs, but I think he's a bust. Cato could provide some toughness around the basket.
I'm guessing Lue will opt out on Wednesday and become a free agent. Gaines was a PG coming out of college. We'll have to see how it works out, but I'm betting Lue won't play for the Rockets.
Following is a USA Today Grade of the Orlando Magic 2003 draft. NO letter grade, but the comments got me excited about this deal. ORLANDO MAGIC Round 1, Pick No. 15: Reece Gaines Round 2, Pick No. 42: Zaur Pachulia Where's the love for Orlando's draft? They got the guy they were long rumored to get in Reece Gaines. In tandem with Tracy McGrady, the Magic will sport one of the biggest backcourts in the League with both capable of running the offense. Look for Gaines to learn the ropes for one season under Darrell Armstrong and then take things from there... Man, I hope we land Gaines in this. T-Mac well that's the 99.99 percent of the reason for my excitement. If we end up with Gaines though, wow, that would be excellent. I could see Gaines being developed into a hawking bench defender at 6'6". He could play for Louisville and at the very least I hope he's given the opportunity to earn minutes with us. By the way, great draft, huh, both guys gone one year later (if rumored Gaines involvement is indeed accurate).
I don't think it is that he doesn't want to play for the Rockets. I think it is that he wants to make more than the $1.6 million per year he is getting now. Given that Kevin Ollie got the contract he did, I'm guessing Lue can AT LEAST get $2.5 to $3 million per season. It isn't about the team. It's about the money. Who can blame him for that?
Thank god. I have spent way too much time looking over my shoulder at the office while I keep re-checking this bbs. I have work to do.
I doubt Lue gets 1/2 the MLE from any team, let alone more. Opting out might be a big mistake (but one I hope he makes!).
the suspense is over!. i tell ya, in the last week, i've lost a few strands of hair! . the stress was something else!
