He didn't say peep from the time the buzzer sounded to the time the broadcast ended. That was the best part of the win for me.
I love the Wiz crew..it's a shame they're so bad right now. I'll start watching when Arenas comes back (even though I don't like him).. actually, gotta figure out a game to go to for free before the end of the season.
there was a certain moment i kinda feel chinese commentary was better although i dont understand. Tommy was like a fan who was noisy and annoying that is clearly rooting the celtics. He bashed Artest throughout the game!! Saying he should have more technical fouls and fouled out game. Say it man to man with artest u bum, u'll get smacked
He wasn't as bad as usual (though that is not saying much). He actually gave Yao and Brooks some kudos..
Tommy not the only biased announcer. League full of them. Hastings in Denver is bad. Rice in Portland, too, I think. It's the schtick for some of these guys-- complain about every call. Sorta like your typical fan in sports bar. Gets very annoying. I can understand rooting for home team, talk about how good your team is, even when not... talk about guys who work hard, or have potential, etc. But what I can't stand is b****ing and b****ing about refs. Very annoying.
Tommy Heinsohn is great if you're a boston fan. I remembering enjoying listening to his broadcast back when I was studying in beantown. You have to distinguish homerism and idiocy.
I picked up on that too. They had respect for Yao and saw Brook's speed and talent. The announcer actually said he thought that Brook's steal and save looked inbounds, and Tommy said, 'Get your green glasses back on!'... Heinsohn is famous for homering, and he plays it up. But I could tell that they knew this Rockets team had what it took to beat them. Anyway, they were looking forward to their 'Big Game' vs. Cleveland on Friday.
I take back my words. I just downloaded the game and watched it. Heinsohn is extremely fuking annoying in the second half with his whining about the refs.
The announcers are employees of the team, right? It makes me wonder exactly how much you can say about the referees before there are any repercussions. I can't imagine the NBA would be pleased to hear him go on and on about Eric Lewis.
Muted him 5 minutes into the game when he went on a rant saying all Artest does is try to intimidate his opponents and said it is pathetic that he does that. Did he forget KG plays for the Celtics?
i agree with Shaud. The East Coast anti-Artest bias was present last night. Clearly the Celtics have had to deal with Ron from the beginning of his career, but last night they (the Boston homers) had Ron under a microscope. From the beginning when Pierce locked him up and Ron responded with his own death-lock (that was initiated by P.P. as far as I saw), to the playful pat on the ref's bum and shoulder grab. the play that showed me the most about Ron's character was when he and Scalabrine collided, Artest went directly to Scalabrine for a fist bump, and to check if his opponent was alright. he has done this numerous times this season. That's the Artest that the announcers failed to mention, it's like they want him to be controversial, but he really has mellowed out since 2004...
Schtick is right on target. It's an act, and occasionally they'll drop the act and do some hardcore basketball analysis or praise the other team. I remember Hastings in a game against the Rockets last season was talking about the motion offense and said something like "Look how the ball just moved all over the court and never touched the floor once" about a Rockets possession. And last night Tommy was pretty effusive in his praise of Brooks. Brooks actually gets a ton of praise from the opposing teams' announcers, which is a little ironic considering the hate he used to engender on this board.
I saw this coming. During the preseason Tommy acted liked this when we played them. He kept on ranting about Artest and overblowing every single thing he did. He brought up the intimidation factor like he did last night. What I see in Artest is a guy playing hard and he always respects and jokes around his opponent. I guess Tommy H. is still mad because Artest pulled Pierce pants down a while back but still he acts like Artest is throwing punches at players during the game. I mean the stuff KG does on the court makes Artest look like a choir boy. Tommy H. definitely crosses the line when he talks about Ron Ron and it is sickening. He is hands down the worst announcer in the NBA.
I agree about the schtick part. Every time I hear another announcing team, I expect a certain amount of schtick and homerism. It goes w/ the territory, and no city is totally impartial. I certainly wouldn't want to hear impartial Houston guys. But last night was probably the worst of the bunch. They crossed the line of annoying to just plain horrible.
