    Hard to quantify that.

But we can at least start the NCAA tourney appearance countdown timer.

    Tickey, tockey... dickey..

I hope they're doing the presser behind some kind of plastic shield.

For all you care? That reason is why I loved the guy so much. Anyone can do something but to do it dysfunctionally takes true talent. Seriously though all of the guys problems stemmed from his addiction to basketball. He studies it like you losers study internet p*rn or play WoW so he somewhat lost touch with reality. Which makes for one hell of a basketball coach.

    Yep. For all I care.

The skeletons in his closet did not bother me one bit.

This sucks. I would've much rather preferred Gillespie or even John Lucas. If I were a basketball player coming out of high school, either of those two would have me considering UH. But this Dickey character isn't going to help attract any good new prospects. Unless UH can somehow vastly improve their athletic facilities, we are worse off now than we were with Penders.

Holy crap I completely forgot about Lucas. He's got soooooo many local connections, how could have easily tapped into some talent in the area. The more we look at all the candidates available, the more horrible those hire seems to be. What kid would want to play for UH when the biggest splash hires were ignored?

Maybe instead of calling UH "Cougar High", they should start calling them "Cougar Jr. High". They did hire a Jr. High coach after all.

Sorry Cougar fans...when Penders left I seriously thought "ok, these guys are about to become a great team because they are going to hire a cold ass coach"...

I was wrong...I feel bad for you guys.

Maybe they should just close the school? Especially with University of Phoenix exploding and Rice and TSU so close. Mwuahaha

Dickey can recruit. 25 of his players have went to the NBA. He's a hard worker and doesn't come with any baggage like Floyd or BCG.

He said today that his top priority was recruiting the Houston-area, something Penders didn't do much of.

Lucas was never an option. Marlin didn't want to come here.

I trust Mack's hire and I think he'll do much better than Penders.

Nothing wrong with what Penders did, he finished with a winning record every season as well as getting UH back to the dance for the first time in close to 20 years.

Alvin Brooks/Clyde Drexler/Ray McCallen were all garbage and Penders came right in and won.

UH is crazy to let him go and not have someone legit to come in and take over.

Way to kill the momentum of a NCAA appearance

Marlin would've come here if we offered him the job. He had his meeting and when there was no offer imminent, he accepted the job at ULaLa. Say what you will about UH, but it's a better job than the one he took.

I don't know why you guys keep saying Penders didn't recruit the Houston area. I think this years team had something like six players from the greater Houston area. I'm sure many of the best players got away, but how much of that is Penders fault. Good high school players have a choice of many schools. It's hard to convince a kid to come to Houston instead of Texas, or Baylor, or A&M, or Kansas etc.
