Tom Delay sentenced to 3 years in prison.

    Just in.

Now the courts need to get the rest of the criminals in congress.

    AP

Life in prison would have been a more appropriate sentence.

AUSTIN, Texas -- A judge has ordered U.S. House Majority Leader Tom DeLay to serve three years in prison for his role in a scheme to illegally funnel corporate money to Texas candidates in 2002.
The sentence comes after a jury in November convicted DeLay on charges of money laundering and conspiracy to commit money laundering. DeLay was once one of the most powerful men in U.S. politics, ascending to the No. 2 job in the House of Representatives.
The former Houston-area congressman had faced up to life in prison. His attorneys asked for probation.
Senior Judge Pat Priest issued his ruling after a brief sentencing hearing on Monday in which former U.S. House Speaker Dennis Hastert testified on DeLay’s behalf.
Priest declined to hear testimony from the state’s only witness.

He's appealing anyway, right? I'd be pretty happy if I were DeLay. 3 years isn't too long, and can only get better with appeals.

According to DeLay, he has. I agree with the thadeus that the chump deserves life, but 10 years would have been more like justice. What about the people of Texas? They were defrauded by DeLay and his gang. What kind of justice can remedy that?

Wow, so is da Whopper (as per always) giving the official spin to this? "stalinist show trial?" wow. that is some weak, weak lunatic sauce right there.

deLay will turn this into an Oliver North style victory, with a new book and speaking tour as soon as he serves his mitigated sentence of 6 months or whatever. Just you watch.

He will probably be sent to a minimum security federal pen, for white collar criminals....some of them don't even have bars on their doors.

It is like a country club but you can't leave.....like the one Pete Rose was sent too...

Delay says he's only going to jail because he was tried in the most liberal county in America.

He'll probably get his own kitchen in the cell and spend his time slicing onions so thin that they would liquify in the pan.
