Hey, I know what Ultraman is, I just didn't know it was a nickname for Jerry O'connell. My only guess is that pouhe is confusing him with Joey Lawrence's younger brother who was in some Ultraman show around the time Power Rangers was big.

    You know what is funny?

A friend of ours is a high level personal trainer in LA, who works with a lot of stars.

He has some intersting things to say about Cruise, that the reason that Nicole Kidman left him was that he is actually gay and that he seeks women to sign 10 year contracts of marriage to help him maintain his image, and during that time they are paid handsomly and help is given to their own careers.

Also says that John Travolta is gay, and Toby McGuire....

It was amazing just listening to his stories.

Take it for what it is worth...but it sure seems plausible.

yeah, seems "plausible"...about as plausible as scientology itself.

im sure those guys have all sorts of skeletons, but its a little funny you find plauibility in gym gossip :D

Yeah I didn't get the reference either, I just made a joke relating back to the thread.

But I just did a quick Google. Pouhe made a pretty obscure, but legit, reference: My Secret Identity

I smiled when I misread the title of the thread as "Tom Cruise has lost his hand..."

Does that make me a bad person?

I think Travolta is barely even hiding the fact he is at least playing for both teams.

i was going to stay out of this, but i know a couple people who work in hollywood as production/set people - they have both worked on movies w/ cruise and say that he is actually openly gay - its not a secret at all. but that he is also an extremely nice person - unlike most actors, he will actually take time go talk to all the set people, ask how they are, ect. but he is also very pushy about scientology - there are always scientologists on set trying to recruit.

i heard the travolta is gay rumors from them too.

Wouldn't one expect about 10% of actors to be gay? Isn't that about the percentage in the general population? Would one really think that a lifelong commitment to drama/theater would make on LESS likely to be gay?

Beyond the mere logic of it, who cares if Tom Cruise is gay? Or anyone else for that matter? Does it make him any better or worse of an actor? Isn't that the only real effect he has on any of our lives?

Why is this post nothing but questions?

not saying its right, but i think up to a couple years ago it would have been an issue for purposes of casting him in movies. he is either playing heartthrobs and/or action heroes.

but now after all the odd behavior the last couple years his image is so low that it would probably be a good career move.

Well, if Tom is trying to maintain his image, he's not doing that great a job when 75% of Americans think that he's basically nuts, is he? :)

    Internet declares war on Scientology?

Went to Digg.com this morning. 5 out of the 10 hottest stories right now are about Scientology, including several reports about orchestrated attacks on the organization and its infrastructure... A hacker group has threatened to "dismantle" the church, and reports say that several of their sites have slowed down to a halt, and then there's this:

Follow-up -- here's the video ... "for every one of us that goes down, 10 will rise to take his place..."

Wired.com reports that a massive distributed denial of service attack on Scientology's web sites has indeed begun.

This is in no way meant to defend Scientology, but I don't think it is close to the only religion with a really f---up hierarchy, and one that gets shadier and more secretive the higher you go up. I don't want to mention names but I can think of a few easily.

Further, let’s not forget the elements of the media evangelical business and the $100 Heaven sent napkins you can have delivered to your door. That is a serious business and has been for decades—there are lots of predators (of suckers if you want to call them that) using faith or religious covers.

Finally on the drug issue. I think there is overprescription related to mental health issues--particularly with kids (ADD, etc). But IMO absolutely their is role in severe cases and temporary events. To say Psychiatry is BS because they used some terrible and painfull methods is BS. Physicians used to bleed folks and Priests used to burn pained-souls alive. To we want to condemn all what is modern medicine and all what Priests do because of this?

I agree you could observe secretive hierarchy's in other religions. It's just my general impression that it's pretty secretive even at it's most introductory levels. I would be scared walking into a church just to inquire. I have to admit that I've found this whole thing pretty fascinating recently. (Don't worry, I'll be joining the Jedi church before this one)

As for the hacker attacks, it should be interesting to see how it plays out. I wonder if these hackers are serious enough to keep up their 'battle' or maybe it turns out to be a week of fun that they grow tired of. I can't say I particularly condone the attacks though. It's really just giving the church an opportunity to claim religious persecution. Not to mention the whole free speech thing (although the church themselves don't seem to believe in it). On the other hand there seems to be plenty of reports of illegal activity by the church, but it's better to let the law handle it rather then vigilante justice.

Love the V for Vendetta theme though, good flick. It does seem appropriate for their 'mission'.

Apparently most of their web sites have ground to a halt/disappeared, their phone lines are being flooded continuously with crank calls and their fax lines are receiving continuous all-black transmissions. Whatever this "anonymous" group is, it seems to be pretty large and distributed. I'm sure the Scientology guys are hoping that it blows over in a week or two, but the message seems to be that they are in it for the long haul ... it's definitely going to be interesting to watch.

There also appears to be a new, concerted effort to publish all of their fiercely guarded secret documents on the web...

Cruise is a Scientologist, which is a "religion" that was created by science fiction writer L. Ron Hubbard for a tax shelter.
