Not sure about the math... but getting Manning would have likely have meant an entirely different supporting cast on the team due to cap implications. Denver was in a better position both cap-wise and coaching-staff wise (lets be honest, Kubiak feels his offense makes the QB... not the other way around). In the end, the coaches have the final say... if you want a meddlesome owner that overrides those decisions, you end up with Bud Adams.
back to this..I forgot..Manning was interested in Houston, but Houston got scared and didn't want to bring him in?
Till it mattered, then he would have turned back into a pumpkin and we'd have maybe one more playoff win.
I'm sick of hearing this argument. Who knows how it would have turned out. The point is take a f'ing chance. Manning can make a scrub 2 win team a playoff bound team. I guess the argument is he fails in the playoffs. Oh well, I will take a 13 win regular season and playoff wins with the occasional Superbowl appearance anytime, especially over what we have dealt with over the yrs.
No, we'd think, "How many more meaningless regular season wins are we going to get without winning the big game before our QB is done and we're assed out and in a complete rebuild?"
Thank you sir. At the least I would know that we will be in the playoffs every year. And iccasional Superbowl appearance.
i was stoked when they were 12-4. not sure why you assume manning is 1 and done either. made the SB last year, and two years ago lost on a fluke play.
Uh yea because everyone knew Schaub didn't have a chance to win a playoff game in New England. Laid an egg like always.
Last year he got stomped out with a better team than the Texans would have had if they'd made room for Manning and he's nearing the end. If they never win it all, then all they've managed to do is make themselves a lesser version of the Bills in the 90's.
sooo what exactly are you saying? you would rather not have manning because he does not guarantee a superbowl? or you would rather have fitz and draft a qb? not following ya hoss.
I'm saying that it was a VERY risky move at the time, and it might not even pay off. If you go the gut the team for Manning route, you'd better win a SB doing so or it's a failure because your team will be left helpless after wards.
Let me see.....13-3, AFC championship game, Superbowl appearance, Playoff bound vs Wildcard, Wildcard, 2-14, possibly miss playoff or rebuild mode Man what a hard decision
