I think the contention that JJ missed some game winning shots last year is true. However, I have to say he was one of the most dependable guys last year. Night in and night out he produced. I think he will have a better year this year. Every remaining Rocket from last year will step it up because we all know what this team is capable of. JJ is tha MAN!!!

Jeff Van Gundy is the best thing that ever happened to the ROX.

While I agree in regards to Barry and JJ, I'm not sure about Howard. The guy has NEVER been a role player. He was given a $105 mil contract for most of his career, and averaged points more than Steve Francis last season. That said, JJ had been a go-to guy for much of his career too, and he made the adjustments, first with the Kings and now with the Rockets. I think Howard can do it too. But you never know what can happen when he starts taking less shots and asked to play more defense.

Fortunately, he does not have a $ 105 mio. contract anymore! :)

I wish he was more of a 14/11 guy than a 17/7 guy, but perhaps he can adjust under JVG, playing with Yao and T-Mac.

Mostly it was his decision to move to 10 different team.

averaging 10.3 points and 7.2 rebounds per game

the thing is jj carried a bad rep. regardless whether it was true or not. what is interesting is that j. howard has the same rep as a locker room stirrer.

3 years for 7.3 million? That MUST be a typo.

I like JJ, but damn, he was guaranteed 1-2 turnovers per game last year because he'd be out of bounds when we passed to him on the wing. How many times did that happen?

I think you meant Mark Blount. ;)

Actually he was averaging double-double the second half of the season. You know decent big men are in big demand in this league.

I dont think any team cut him, he wasnt resigned when he was a free agent a few times.

For next season can we get him one of those dog collars that zaps you every time you cross the boundry line, so maybe he won't step out of bounds 2-3 times per game?

Steve Kerr had an interesting take on this. He said that guys who weren't career 3pt shooters (JJ was mostly a slasher and post-up guard early in his career... And a 4 turnover per game player, to boot) aren't as familiar with the sidelines and 3pt arc as guys who were running to spot up in the corners for their entire careers.

    Hopefully JJ will get better.

This is exactly what I want to hear from JJ. Thanks for the post.
HE should be the team leader next season. Not Yao, not T-mac.

No Mo? Leading Rockets to their 1st trip to the Finals? I think he's gotta be top 5 easily.

They won a ring (two in some cases). Yao hasn't even gotten out of the first round.

I would rank Murph, Moses, and Big E ahead of a lot of those guys though.
