same reason they make the girls wear those crazy leotards: there is no reason. Just because.. tradition?

I miss the days of the Aussy/US swimming rivalries.. There was no reason why I was supposed to know who or what the "Thorpedo" was.. that sh*t was fun. I felt like I knew a couple of these swimmers before entering the Olympics, now I dont know many of these guys now. No personalities, no rivalries, no bragging rights, no trash talk..

This Ledecky girl supposed to be the GOAT and she just lost to the Australian and there is no visible anger.. Just smiles. How am I supposed to know this was a big race?

Also they are introducing Sport Climbing in the Olympics, the speed challenge looks fun to try.

And to know some of the athletes, Colin Duffy and Brook Raboutou will be representing USA as a prodigy of a family of climbers.

This is what Swimming is missing. He was more excited than the girl that won. he probably misses the rivalry too.

Awesome! Looks like she's going to UT this fall after the Games

    https://www.espn.com/olympics/story...ring-medal-major-upset-100-meter-breaststroke

Lydia Jacoby became the first Alaskan swimmer to win Olympic gold, securing the medal in the 100-meter breaststroke at 1:04.95 in a major upset Monday.

Jacoby, 17, shocked the world by sprinting the last 50 meters of the race to finish ahead of South Africa's Tatjana Schoenmaker and USA's defending gold medalist, Lilly King. Schoenmaker took the silver, and King captured bronze, her first defeat in a 100-meter breaststroke final since December 2016.

"I was definitely racing for a medal. I knew I had it in me," Jacoby said. "I wasn't really expecting a gold medal, so when I looked up and saw the scoreboard it was insane."

As she touched the wall and looked up, she looked stunned. King swam over, holding her hands and slapping the water in joy.

Jacoby became one of the youngest American swimmers to win an Olympic gold, joining elite company. The only younger United States swimmers to win an individual gold in the past 20 years were Katie Ledecky and Missy Franklin.

There's a real lack of personalities this Olympics.

Takefusa Kubo is really ****ing good.

I'm not sure if he'll ever make it as a regular for Real Madrid, but he's an incredible talent. He's been easily the best player in the olympics with a Japan that looks like the favorite for gold. I'm a fan.

    Olympic 3x3 basketball rules!

The Gold medal game between Russia and Latvia was awesome, right down to the wire stuff.

Possibly my favourite part of the games so far

You realize that other than Japan, Brazil, Mexico and perhaps Spain, this is a youth tournament and Jap had sent half of their grown up starter team and half of the field did not.

    Competition is skewed.

Especially France, Argentina, Germany dispatched 4th stringers. Pretty bad.

But I agree with you, they make no mistakes and run like a well oiled machine.
