There are times when those of us from the same culture that grew up speaking the same language have a hard time interpreting what is written in some of these posts. I think it is safe and logical to assume that there is going to be some problems translating posts between language barriers and cultures. I hope we are all a little understanding to this problem and are not so quick to bash our fellow posters here. Most of us are in fact Rockets fans and all of us (at least almost all) are both Yao Ming and Steve Francis fans. Nomar was not trying to slam Yao Ming, he was being sarcastic. Sarcasm is just a type of humor and Nomar was just using humor to point out how ridiculous one posters statement was about Steve needing to have a good game to prevent being traded. Neither Steve Francis or Yao Ming are on the trading block.
If it wasn't for jackson starting to hit his and MoT continuing his offensive onslaught, this could not have occurred. The TEAM part really is opening it up for Steve and yao to excel. The weapons are starting to all work together. Defense still was an anchor as well. Steve did another great job on Chauncey.... Cato and Yao did a great job inside.
Great thread title and great thread, except the usual bickering over misunderstood posts. Yao played bigger, Steve played smarter and other guys hit some shots. Defense was very good and you have to give an extra mention on defense to Steve for shutting down Billups. Hopefully, efforts like this one will be commonplace by mid-season.
The big question is: Can they CONSISTENTLY produce this kind of effort night in and night out? Do they really have the drive and dedication to take their game to a higher level? We should have a better idea by January.
The question you really want to ask yourself is why Yetti felt it necessary to bring up potentially getting rid of Francis in this otherwise positive thread. It's also pretty dumb to say that a 4th year player, one of the top young players in the entire NBA, and with good statistics, should be discussed in a manner that indicates his future with the Rockets is in jeopardy. Big surprise, Rokkit, crash, and RocketsPimp are the posters that are talking some sense in this thread. "Nice job fellas, great having you here." - In my best Jim Rome voice.
This appeared to be a nice thread when it started; but for whatever reasons it has been turned into a battlefield for nothing. Come on guys, you all are fans of "Rocket" players. Just stop at that. Otherwise, I don't feel any sense at all whether it is hidden under the nice term of "sarcastic" or "pathetic", they were all used in offending your fellow posters albeit in a different way.
I'm proud of the way the team has pulled together and really started playing as a team and not as individuals. I think this year will be an important one to build the foundation for the following years. We are not finals materail now, but once the lakers disband and we have a bit more experience together under JVG we will kick ass
Agreed. I've always thought this would help Yao and Steve together. Once Yao could help take the scoring and rebounding load off of Steve then our PG could maybe concentrate on other aspects of his game a little better.
From a cultural standpoint, believe it or not, sarcasm isn't the norm in many countries. Culture101: Posters from other countries need to realise that Western people like to joke around and be sarcastic. Let's not get too defensive about some things people say. Posters from Eastern countries also need to realise a lot of readers on this BBS cannot read Chinese, let's not post things just in Chinese, at least be courteous enough to translate for us. We need some form of etiquette in posting in this forum. It's kind of sad.
Steve's performance really knocked me sideways -- it was completely unexpected after what we've seen up to this point. The coolest thing was that at some points, you could almost see on his face that he was thinking, "So THIS is what I'm supposed to be doing." After all this time it looked like he finally got it. Let's just hope it wasn't a fluke. We should probably expect a few setbacks as he struggles to overcome his previous experience and mindset, but hopefully he'll start playing more and more like a bonafide PG as the season goes on.
I saw that too ... Steve is taking another step in becoming a PG. Also, in the post game interview, Calvin and Bill reminded Steve about people's criticism of his low assist numbers in the past. They told him, for this game his scoring was bad but praised him for his assists. They were still trying to convince Steve that it is more important for him to get more assists than points. Steve half-way acknowledged it but he still brought up his 6 assists/ game in previous years to defend himself.
Yea, I saw/heard Steve's comments too. I thought he made a point out of the plan being to get everyone involved early. They almost called 5 different plays for all five including Steve it seemed. This was probablt a JVG/assistant idea. It worked. Thing is, as much as we liked the assists, if they give Steve the looks or lane, he still should take that and score. I think 6-7 assists in this system is probably right. Especially if JJ starts to hit and with MoT adding the assist opportunity over Cato/Braggs/Ford of old.
