UH needs a front 7 with players that can actually tackle. How many times did USC RBs get key yards after the first hit? UH can still be proud of their season. Great job!
A very poor defensive performance by UH until late, and that was the game. At times SC looked like they were running plays on a practice field, with no one else there. UH's offense is potent, but they couldn't overcome the poor D and some timely turnovers. A very exciting game. To be outdueled by Mitchell (who?) had to be very disappointing for Kolb.
You have to realize that Mitchell played versus a horrible cougars defense and Kolb played against a very good USC defense.
Damn...Great first half, after that, the defense was well, what it was all year...Kolb did make some mistakes, but overall a great season...Just wish we would have won... Thanks for the great year Coogs!!!
Just got back from Memphis. Had the time of my life. South Carolina fans are the most classy and likeable sports fans I've ever met. GO COOGS!
I just got home too, and I had a blast. UH has absolutely nothing to be ashamed of, and hopefully we'll be back in Memphis next season. Also, I agree with Donny - the USC fans were pure class and I hope they do well next season.
We just need some more athletes on D. I think if we can get the defense playing well we can even get a little dropoff in the QB position and still do well.
Just got in from Memphis. After the game, almost every S.C. alum came up to us and congratulated us on a great game. Every S.C. fan was in awe of Kolb and Marshall. A Tennessee alum was next to me and he didn't know anything about UH or our offense was loving every minute of Kolb and our high powered offense. Great game. Amazing atmosphere. Glad I made the trip. I expect UH to keep building on this year and I can't wait for the '07 season.
Maybe not, Kolb's numbers were impressive enough to say he's definite NFL material, but I would say his game was off just enough we should be able to pick him up in the third round. Overall, outstanding season by Kolb and super job by the Coogs in the Liberty Bowl. They just need to get some guys that can tackle, cover in the secondary and legitimately rush the QB without having to blitz all the time. I just wish that last possesssion we would've had say 30 seconds instead 3 seconds. That last play was set up beautifully for Marshall.
USC's gameplan for the second half was ridiculously simple. Jam jam jam our recievers at the LOS and send a delayed blitz in case any TE or RBs released into the flats or a WR broke lose. I saw on multiple occassions times when our recievers would be breaking free for a long gainer only to be basically tackled or tripped while headed down field. They were just refusing to let us get down field. Very frustrating. I saw Briles nearly blow his top on several no-calls for defensive holding. But yeah, having some Linebackers who have any sort of lateral quickness and the ability to wrap up a running back and we win that game running away.
I agree completely. I wouldn't pick a QB before the 3rd round, but if Chris Leak or Kolb are available in the 3rd, I'd take one of them.
My friends took mountains of pics.. not me though. Some professional photos.. http://www.pbase.com/carboncopy/liberty_bowl
I'd rather have Kolb, but Leak is gonna be a player, also. I'd just like to see Kolb because of the hometown connection, though.
