Don't understand what's so wrong and 'hateful' about remembering the fallen and having American Pride in light of all that's happened. It was a very tragic and evil event (yes, evil), but looking back at the great men and women who sacrificed everything on that day for their fellow Americans, and the resilience shown as a nation since that date... I think it benefits me to revisit it. We're far from perfect in the USA, I get it, but I love this damn country.
http://bbs.clutchfans.net/showthread.php?t=21805 Seems to be an interesting read. Thanks for bringing that up.
Not like it's any huge thing - but I posted a Toby Keith verse from his song 'Courtesy of the Red, White and Blue' with a picture of the American flag with the words "R.I.P America 9/11" It received one 'like' See someone post that they were dancing on top of a table in Thailand and had to be escorted out by security. At the time of this - it had received 47 'likes'. I get it's a different country, and the majority of Australian's don't have an affinity with the United States like I do. But the lack of attention drawn to this date sickens me.
I was in school...8th grade. Was just an empty feeling with words spreading around but no one knowing the truth about what truly happened. Then I came home, turned on the news, and pretty much lost it. Crazy how long ago it was....but for me I'll always remember each moment of that day, where I was, what I was doing, etc.
I was in high school and many people and most of my friends used it as an excuse to go home. I honestly think a lot of them didn't care about what was happening in NY.
Eh... 2001. 2013. It might say somewhat about what draws America's interest, but much more about how much this site has grown. This would be at least a 1000 page thread on Clutchfans nowadays.
I was in 8th grade too and I remember one of my teacher's telling us how we would remember exactly where we were when this occurred comparing it to when she was a kid and saying that she remembered exactly where she was when she heard about JFK's assassination. Crazy how right she was. I still remember what song I was listening to as I was getting ready for school when I heard my mom's shout of, "OH MY GOD!!!" (Hit or Miss by New Found Glory)
I was working downtown. I remember it was chaos as everyone tried to get out of the area, not knowing the scope of the attack and worried that something could happen here next.
I created a tag called "historical events" to make these type of threads easier to find in the future. The only thing I've got tagged with it are 9/11 and the Boston Marathon Bombing, but one of these days when I have some free time I'll go through and tag some of the others.
Cant believe that it has been 12 years since...and Ill never forget...Senior year of High school in a off period class room watching the news like i usually do in the morning, and then seeing the 2nd plane in horror, and hearing Matt Lauer repeating what my eyes just saw... I kinda spent the past few hours watching Zero Hour, a documentary on Youtube of the events of that day. And then watched the CBS documentary of us Killing Bin Laden. God Bless our country, the United States of America!
Repped both of you. That Cracked article really shocked me. For one, I thought that site was for people to waste time online by looking at humorous pictures. I didn't expect such a biting, sarcastic, and yet accurate article summing up this event. I especially liked his #1 argument: I used to chuckle at libertarian friends 15 years ago (the real conservatives, not the uneducated trash that's arisen in the last 5 years) for voicing these ideas out loud. How right they were; how foolish was I. Seeing certain posts in this thread proves how fear changes people for the worst. How easy it was for Americans to relinquish what took centuries to polish and evolve? Were we merely cattle that ran in whatever direction we were prodded? This country lost its head by seeing 3k people killed and another 3 in Boston. We overturned our principles, spent trillions, and embraced a permanently changed identity versus religious extremists that did relatively little. What took so long to craft was destroyed and forgotten in moments when a small group of people threw a monkey wrench into the complex machinery. I'm not referring to the office buildings, but the social fabric and dream of this country. Clearly it wasn't as strong and enduring as some had been raised to believe. A WW2 vet that I met used similar language to the OP's when mentioning Pearl Harbor. Today, few remember the event or grasp how it felt. 9/11 will become the same in a few decades since all posters here will die. The future generations will be desensitized to it. Unfortunately, unlike Pearl Harbor, our country and its people have not been the same again.
Ya. It's too bad we didn't drop 2 more A-bombs like we did after Pearl Harbor. Maybe we would all be hunky dorey then.
It's sad, very sad, that when people bring up 9/11, it would take me basically forever before the idea of "tragedy where thousands died" come into my head. The reason people seem to "forget" 9/11 is because people have tried to make it everything BUT the tragedy it was. That it has become a circus of epic proportions that the actual tragedy has been lost.
Remembering the day would be a lot worse if our military didn't take down Bin Laden. Of course, I would have liked for them to throw him off the top of a tall building so he could experience the same type of terror he inflicted. Only then would he truly get the inhumanity of what he did regardless of who he worshipped or what he believed. Being shot down like the dog he is was just too easy a way out for him. In fact, I would have had someone on top of a really tall building with a flamethrower shooting fire at him ever so closely and let him make the same choice as to whether to stay and burn alive or jump to his death.
I'm not moaning about this and I'm sure not hating on anybody. But I get it. When I was young I felt cool hating on anything I didn't understand.
The Zimmerman did more to destroy the vision of the American Dream for me and my community . . . than 9/11 ever did. Florida and Zimmerman inspired more Terror than 9/11 for me. Which is more apt to happen again . . . and sooner? Be Angry about it No one is tearing down 9/11, its victims or its significances but then again . . . we cannot dismiss how fundamentally damaging other events are to the fabric and foundation of our country either. I won't forget what happened on 9/11 or what happened afterwards Nor Will I forgot the George Zimmerman trial. One said we have enemies abroad the other said we have enemies within. Rocket River . . . I didn't bring in this comparison . . . you did . . . .don't be mad if you don't like the response.
That Hitman thread, the escort/raccoon dialogue, SpaceCityKid "hide your daughters" and the moestavern19 response to amfootball among many more are HISTORICAL EVENTS. How about a ClutchCLASSIC tag?
