I think we should do the opposite of what the terrorists want. They want us out of Saudi Arabia, let's double our presence. They want Israel to give up land to the Palestinians, let's support Israel taking land from the Palestinians. They want Sharia law in the Muslim holy lands? Let's build a big BBQ restaurant, a strip club, and a porno theater in every Arab city. **** what ISIS wants.

That would be like killing Medgar Evars in his driveway to piss off Sargent Shriver.

    I'm just looking for the facts. I said I would. . . .

Note: all this is from the internet.

What difference does it make if he spent 9 months at a Catholic school as a teenager before being kicked out for being insubordinate? Seems to me they were ahead of the curve in identifying the *******.

I'm not a fan of American support for the state of Israel, but this accomplishes absolutely nothing if done in isolation.

The naive assumption is that a us removal would imply that the ME figures itself out, but as oil has been the centerpiece of any type of action in the ME for the las 100 years, what's to say other powers like Russia or China swoop in? Lest we forget, the us and the UN did not draw the borders plaguing the Middle East.

Of course it doesn't end there...those who call for complete disengagement also carry the circular assumption that the US's unlimited power can "make things right" there when the fact is that once our power projection ends, the weight we carry is limited to soft power and ineffectual chiding long practiced by the EU.

All this means is that there are huge knots to untangle...

Well Condi Rice, the 911 Commission and Colin Powell are just simple
anti-semites who have no idea what role misguided support for the Jewish privileged state in Palestine played in a motivation for the Iraq War.

I don't think disengagement is the right strategy, I think we need to find a way to reform the region. Part of that is settling the Palestinian statehood issue and we can put enormous pressure on Israel to stop its expansion of settlements.

Defeating ISIS won't stop extremism - something radical will replace it. We've been killing Al Qaeda leaders for years - there is no head of the snake. Extremism isn't going to go away with drone, nor boots on the ground. You have to root it out from a cultural perspective, and to do that we have to provide greater incentive.

No one addresses the political and economic factors here. And that's the problem.

    A couple of things.

    1. The "leaders" of the Palestinians don't really want an official state because it would mean that they'd have to give up the portion of the region that isn't given to them AND it would mean that Israel could declare war on them for their acts of aggression such as shooting rockets giving them a legitimate reason to take whatever land is given to Palestinians little by little since we all know they are incapable of living peacefully next to Israel.

    2. Going in and crushing ISIS is the ONLY thing that would work, sure there has to be cultural changes along with economic changes, but you don't get rid of ISIS with happy thoughts, it takes boots on the ground.

As long as the West and even more the US is seen as supporting what Israel does to the Palestinians, particularly those in Gaza and the West Bank it will be a major source of Arab/Muslim anger toward us.

Again Rice, Powel and others involved in the push for the Iraq War have acknowledged one of the principle reasons why we started the Iraq War, widely seen as the originator of ISIS, was that Israel and its neo-con allies wanted us to.

It really is a no-brainer that if pushing Israel to become a country like our own that does not discriminate on the basis of ethnicity or religion helps decrease the hatred and terrorism toward the West that we should do so.

Do you think ISIS cares about Gaza or Palestine? They care about seeing the world burn. They would go rape and pillage gaza if they could.

The economics are pretty murky. I'm still amazed Saudi Arabia is considered a modernized nation and is among the G20. I shouldn't be surprised with the massive wealth they have, so more disappointed and terrified when the day comes when they become a failed state and the boil bursts spreading even more tender morsels of death and misery.

Building sand castles seems easy in a desert. Try building one on a foundation of oil.

The Israel issue imo has reached a point of no return. Barring some technological and economic miracle centered in that region, we've embedded 70+ years of cultural hatred there and it won't stop unless the people have more reason to love their land other than what some crusty old ****ers did long after the original buildings have crumbled and withered away.

Even if Israel does approach things peacefully, they will still be besieged on all sides with foreign radical money pumped into their borders to stir up some trouble. Fixing that requires a level of effort and understanding that goes beyond whatever the us can promote or drive and that rests solely on the shoulders of the israeli people and their identity.

That last bit sounds oddly familiar...

Yes, they do and so do the folks they try to appeal to. Essentially saying "They so crazy nuff said" is the type of simplicity that doesn't help.
