He asked what the general consesus of Chinese NBA fans thought, he wasn't asking to stereotype at all. He obviously has no connection to China or its fans, and was just curious as to what the majority of China was thinking about the Rockets. The Chinese posters that are here are as you said most likely still following the Rockets, but they might know what their friends or family members think as well. I'm also curious as to what most of the Chinese fans are going through right now with Yao's injury.
Dude, it's all about your star players. People like Cavaliers because of LBJ, the same goes to Celtics because of the big 3. I started to love NBA because of Jordan. Not very many people like the Pistons because they lack star power, even though they are a top-3 team. So to make my point, unless you are a Houstonian, fans will never give unconditional love to Rox. They will always follow their favorite player(s).
I follow the rockets because of Yao but eventhough he's injured, I still follow the Rockets. This is my favorate team and till Tmac and Yao are gone.
Think about it... the guys who only watched the Rox... only because of Yao... probably are no longer logging onto this site... anymore
Go find out yourself. Open a p2p program, see how many people watching the Rox on a game night in China. I dont think that number has decreased after Yao's injured.
So basically...you think Yao only have Chinese fans? And Chinese people only watch other Chinese players?
well, it's still Yao's team (not in a sense vs TMac's team, but in a sense of Scola's team, Alston's team...). If Yao's in another team, I sure will follow him. At the same time, I doubt I'll ever quit being a Rockets fun, just that special feeling, Rockets become a part of my life, like a family...
No I don't. Thats why I made this thread, to find out how many have now converted to Rockets fans. Thats also why I included the Lakers in my questions because I would assume (after finding out that Kobe has the #1 selling jersey in China) that China is like other countries when it comes to the NBA, they follow the highlights and Kobe is usually near the top.
well apparently many chinese fans have become fans of scola, he's like huge over there... so yeah there's still reason to watch. landry is amazing too.
It does not matter what draws you to a team, what matters is if you get drawn to it, that what draws you to the team still exists or there are other elements keeping you as a fan, no matter it is good times and bad.
I'm Chinese but I'm a Rockets fan before Yao came along. My favorite players are Moses Malone, Purvis Short (I like rainbow shots), and, of course, Hakeem "The Dream" Olajuwon. I've also liked Robert Reid and Mr. Franchise. BTW.. I'm more fan of Tmac than Yao. I always thought Yao was just too soft and slow. If only I had his physical gift. I would come home after each game bloodied just because I wasn't the tallest, I was just more determined to get every loose ball and rebound even though I knew just outside the court was full of broken glass as I am diving for it.
i have been a rockets fan ever since yao jointed the team. i will still be a rockets fan after yao retires because i love the team. i still watch every rockets game after yao's injury and i am root for the team. go all the way rockets.
i'll prob stop watching rockets after yao retires and the teammates that he played with retires. I just have no connection with the team besides Yao and his teammates. Maybe if i move to houston i'll keep following them, but Htown is just too damn hot and humid during the summers...
I think you misunderstood him, but I think you make a great point. This is a bad time to post make this thread because, if a fan is posting in this forum, then odds are they still follow the team. Oh yeah, and to answer #3....Because they have the Biggest BANDWAGON!
Sorry Yao... even if you and Olajuwon were the main reasons for me cheering for the Rockets or if you got traded to the Fakers (or if my hometown Vancouver BC gets an NBA team once again), I am still cheering for whoever is playing in that red-and-white Rockets uniform...
i thought this was going to be a pathetic thread (which is pretty common here) bashing chinese people but after i read it, it seems really reasonable and honest. i'm not chinese and i do follow the rockets. and im sure some responses have some idiots being sarcastic and posting offensive things. but what does texas know about sensitivity? see i can do that too.
I'm still rooting for the rockets and constantly checking box scores and all that. I just don't watch games like I used to when Yao was healthy. For me, watching the rockets without yao is kinda like watching the lakers without kobe. My fandom is still there but it just isn't as fun watching.
