And you score more, by scoring more efficiently. Almost any player can score if you give them enough shots. The Rockets have had a sub-.300 win percentage four times in their history. The first was their very first season in San Diego. Don Kojis paced the team with 19ppg. In 82-83 they tanked for Hakeem and were led in scoring by Allen Leavell. The last two seasons have been the other two times. To be the best scorer or even best player on the worst Rockets teams ever is really damning with faint praise. KPJ was a great tank commander, but I'm not sure he's got it in him to be part of a winning team if he remains an inefficient, enigmatic player. He's young, and he's got talent. But there are lots of guys who had those attributes and were never able to mature into an effective player.
Real question - why do you think he's been so bad at FTs? It's an important skill, especially from a guard. A good catch-and-shoot 3s guy should be able to hit his freebies. It's inexplicable. Westbrook, who is a terrible shooter, has never been as bad at the line % wise as KPJ was this last season.
KPJ shot 64.2% from the FT line last year and his TS% was 53.1%. If KPJ had shot 80% from the FT line last year his TS% would have been 54.8%. Still low. Still below league average. He needs to greatly increase his FT% and his 2FG% to seriously increase his TS%. Edit : And maintain his 3FG%
Ok and? I am not disputing any of that and it has nothing to do with my post. Nobody is sure about anything with KPJ or a lot of guys who get 2nd contracts, nobody is sure about Green but you have people claiming he is a franchise player already. I don't know why you have doubts about him being part of a winning team, you can say that about anybody on the team currently. What the hell does enigmatic have to do with anything? So now all good players were efficient going into their 3rd years, you all are acting like his TS% is below 50% or that he has played with other good players. I don't know why you brought up best player or best scorer on the worst Rockets team I have notclaimed either and don't care about him being the best scorer or best player.
99.9% of games in NBA history were won by the more efficient team. The reason behind this is that in 99.9% of NBA game both teams end up with the same number of possessions. The team who is more efficient with the same number of possessions IS the team who scores more points and wins. If you want to win you need to be more efficient.
What was his average after CWood sat down? That would be more indicative, I think. Also, what was the rest of the Rox efficiency for shooting? And that is only part of the game, what about defense - shouldn't the overall SCORING efficiency for when he is leading the team be more important than his own? DD
You are asking a bunch of questions as a diversion to your wrong claim. Point blank just upping his FT% would not bump his TS% that much like you claimed. KPJ had the ball in his hands by far the most on our team and he was 2nd in FGA per game. If that is the role he is going to continue to have then his personal efficiency is extremely important and has to improve.
Rockets scored 103 per 100 possessions with him on the court, that’s basically as bad as you will see
They were not 0.3%, they were 4% apart. 4% difference gap is the difference between the team with the highest TS% last season (Nuggets) and the team with the 25th lowest TS% (Knicks). You have extremely elementary understanding of stats, and math in general, and how percentage translate. Here is a simple example. According to you, 4% is not a lot, so therefore there is little difference between a 36% and a 40% 3PT shooter. Well across 600 3PT shots (basically 7 attempts per game, across 82 games, similar to Green's attempts per game). This translates to a difference of 24 more made attempts, which translates to 72 more points. If the Rockets as a team were able to divide up 72 points across various games that they lost, they would easily have won at least 5 more games.
For KPJ to keep starting the expectations should be: 1. Setup the offense immediately. 2. Move the ball like a hot potato. 3. Cut, cut, cut. (Picture Rip Hamilton) 4. Set your mind to be the best defender on the court. 5. Act like an adult.
I don't think that is what Silas is asking, I think that is what you want but not the org. I believe if that is what you are desiring out of the PG position it won't happen with Silas. DD
These are what Silas has said he wants: "I want him to be aggressive, put pressure on the defense, and use all the gifts that he has. Then, learn from those, and be able to take care of the ball more." I'm glad Silas mentioned taking care of the ball. I think he was specifically referring to reducing turnovers. I'd consider reducing the number of tough shots also to be taking care of the ball (i.e., improving TS%).
