Its weird to see people get presented with a pretty valid topic of discussion and just thumb their nose at it. Scooters assist % this year was pretty damn good. If thats his career average moving forward with no further growth it would put him in the top 100 ALL TIME for the stat (talk about cherry picking huh!). Crazy to think that he's tapped out when he did that on a terribly fitting roster. He has innate skills at the position. He's learning to be more anticipatory, but that comes with having instincts in the first place. Sexton was a full 10% points lower in AST% in his full season last year with a similar 60ish game sample size and a better roster around him. When the conversation about KPJs assist totals came up prior to this season and me as the usual homer silly idiot brought up the possibility of a 10 assist season all the purists came out with their history books and said how it was nearly impossible. What happened? KPJ averaged over 10 "potential assists" per game last year! LOL duh I know "potential" I get it, but the vibe was that it could never happen. Is 3 more assists per game this year out of the question? Next year? IN HIS PRIME?? Just discussing one of his skills without bringing up his size for the position and "average" shooting . Myself Im chill because its win/win for his fans. Go ahead and let him play himself into a 30Ms+ contract Im super cool with it! Im not banking on the worst case scenario - I think expecting him to implode with behavioural problems are the long odds. Im just trying to be slick and get ahead of the curve with what is a fair offer for both sides now. Worst case for me is the kid plays himself into a star level deal and brings back a decent haul in trade. Im just going to kick back and keep saving the spiciest posts for later!
I find it terrifying that people with little to no interpersonal skills are teaching the troubled youth of America. Hate to offend you I really dont know you like that, but your posts here paint a pretty clear picture while not capturing you as a whole. Just sayin'.
“The RJ Barrett rookie extension starts at $23.9M and increases over the length of the contract. The last year is $29.6M.” Brown: 2020-21 $23,437,500 2021-22 $24,830,357 2022-23 $28,741,071 2023-24 $30,723,215
If one of your kids likes KPJ and attaches himself to his story is he an idiot? Im going to bet that it wouldnt make you express yourself like that to them and maybe the exchanges here are just a venting mechanism for built up stress. Which is cool by the way no judgement. Personally its one of the reasons why I cut KPJ the slack I do for good or bad as a kid myself coming from similar broken backgrounds, Guys who genuinely want to overcome have to want it for themselves #1, but the impact a solid male role model can make on a young kid going through maturing issues cant be overstated. I actually tip my hat to you for taking the time out of your schedule to work with kids in general. That shows a level of empathy that I sometimes miss from your posts here so huge respect. One of the greatest joys in life for a father or father figure is to see the hard work you put in pay off. Good luck with that wish you the best there. I too coach youth football so can understand the connection there. When you hear about stories like the psycho Talib brother in Dallas that pulls out a gun and kills the opposing coach over a youth game it really makes me hold guys that work with kids to a higher level of accountability.
Can you even cherry pick 60 games out of Porter's career where he averaged 24 ppg and 4 assists on 57% TS. Because that was Sexton's full season statline at 22 years old.
Not at all. I'm rooting for KPJ to prove me wrong. I'm not an autograph person but one of you guys offered me a signed jersey. I will be happy to pay for all of you guys at a game. I would do it for any game
I one of my posts last night I linked an article on Sexton that was recent. You should read what the scout said on Sexton about him being a jerk. Doesn't pass to his teammates. Just stuffs his stats. Opposing players say, "you know Sexton isn't going to pass....why you acting?" And that guy is getting $18M over 4 years? Porter doesn't know how to play? Rockets asked him to learn how to drive and kick last season. If he put his head down and just tried to score, he could probably go for 25 points a night and be a stat stuffer like Sexton. Some people need to pull their heads out of their backsides. As I told @King1....I don't think the Pope is going to sign with us soon. And I hear is jumper is weak and he is against steals.
KPJ when he was unleashed with Green after we sat Wood and Gordon blew up. Now I expect him to be close to 20ppg, but I expect his assists to go up passing to Gordon and Smith this year to more than 7.....maybe 8..... So, if Porter is say an 18-8 guy, and a good defender - do we give him more than 15m a year...I think we do. DD
Spoiler Blowing up would mean having consecutive consistent seasons and not just a stretch of games. Well, in the sense of a more established item. Put him on a stacked team and then evaluate, would be what we are trying here. The contract issue is not hard, give him a moderate one and for 2-3 years. That is fair. I wouldn't give him 5 years for example.
Sexton is an offensive minded scoring guard with 4 assists as a high water mark so far. I think he will ball out in UTAH as the engine for them because he is a talented player and will be given the keys. Im wondering how high he will be able to elevate his passing numbers on that team? The only comparison for me is within the contract details and if a guy coming off a season ending injury with a higher scoring output yet lower passing ability is getting that type of bag then the holdup lies in the behaviour and trust department for those fans who are not comfortable with KPJ yet and thats fine. Only way to convince the world is for him to hit the court with a good attitude and live up to his potential. KPJ assisted his teammates on nearly 1/3 of all shots while he was on the court! Thats nothing to scoff at from a guy not considered to be a pure PG especially with the crap roster over the last 2 years. Thats passing talent whether anyone wants to admit it or not and it can only get better - why would it regress?
I'm not worried about KPJ scoring 18, but doing that on good efficiency is more important. We all know he is a baller with a ton of moves in his bag, but shot selection is something I want to see improvement on. If he can even do 18ppg and 5 assists on 57+ ts% efficiency, I would gladly pay him more than 15 mm a year
His efficiency will go up when he stops shying away from contact at the rim and takes it on to draw fouls.....instead of contorting away to avoid it. DD
The biggest problem with KPJ was always the question, if he is matured enough and has his head in the game. So I think getting rid of Wood and adding Jabari could really gmgelp his development. Right now I am leading to extending him, even if it costs us >15 millions per year.
The reporting on Sexton and his contract is that he was offered 3 years 45 by Cleveland during last season. He declined and then the offer was rescinded and he appeared to be headed for only his qualifying offer. Windhorst is reporting that in order for this Mitchell trade to happen they had to pay Sexton well over market price. Part of the reporting is Sexton was one of the “big winners” of the trade for getting a contract well above what he should have expected. Edit : A quote from Hollinger implying the contract was an overpay in his breakdown of the trade…. “Most notably, Sexton signed for four years, $72million, which is worth a column in its own right.” Using what Sexton just got as an accurate barometer for what to expect for KPJ just doesn’t seem viable.
I've said, just like Housmandzanda who was a #2 receiver for the Bengals......Seahawks paid him #1 receiver money. Quickly found out things are different when the defense puts their best defenders on you as the #1 guy. I factored in Jalen Green going for 25 points per game and the best defender guarding Jalen this season.....results, even though the Porter USG% goes down from 24% to about 22%....the efficiency goes up for Porter as he faces lesser defenders and shoots more 3's. Basically I'm saying Porter benefits from the attention Green gets and Sengun in the post, that him flying under the radar surprises opponents. Just like Brunson was able to do much the same. ----------------- For the record I'm ok with moving Jalen Green to the 1 and playing Eric Gordon/ JC or Mathews at the 2. I can see the Rockets doing Porter like the Spurs did Dejounte Murray who put up All Star numbers. Trade Porter at the deadline to avoid free agency and risk losing for nothing because they don't want to match $25M to $30M like Mavs did with Brunson I just hate for Doncic and Porter to kick our #$$ for the next 8 years. Porter next to Doncic will make the Brunson numbers look like child's play.
I don’t see Kevin Porter Jr. The Great Spoiler Oh, all the way down at 23 https://bleacherreport.com/articles...morant-zion-williamson-and-the-2019-nba-draft 23. Kevin Porter Jr. (Originally Picked 30th) The points and assists have been there for Kevin Porter Jr. in each of the last two seasons (he's averaged 15.9 and 6.2, respectively). What's really encouraging about him are the career highs he posted in three-point attempts per game (6.8) and three-point percentage (37.5) last season. Porter's history of "anger management issues" is a concern, but it's hard to deny his offensive potential. If he commits a bit more on defense and continues to improve his consistency on both ends, he could be a long-term starter.
