You may think it’s “Pearl clutching” for fans to consider KPJ’s immaturity when deciding what sort of extension to offer a talented but inefficient player. But really it’s all part and parcel of the same thing. He’s hopefully going to mature as a person and as a player, but neither seems like a guarantee. He can do no wrong in your eyes but the fact is that he’s a project that the Rockets’ brass might not be willing to continue to invest in long term. They might not think he’s going to turn the page maturity wise or production wise this year. And they see him day to day and have more information than we have on that front. All these points you and DD are making about Olajuwon are ridiculous - you can’t really think KPJ belongs in the same sentence, paragraph, or page as the greatest Rocket who ever played. Not even the same book. And young Dream was always productive on the court, even when the team around him was bad. You get more chances when you bring it like he did.
You keep going back and forth between pretending the few minor incidents KPJ has been in are the end of the world and unprecedented villainous behavior to excusing literal criminal acts based on how good the player was.... don't you see how that undercuts your pearl clutching? It would just be better if you were honest and left it at saying you just don't like the player.
The front office probably wants to see if he can make it through a full season without being involved in a stabbing or bizarre temper tantrum.

These Dream / AI / Barkley comparisons are hilarious. If KPJ was as talented as the aforementioned folks, there wouldn't be any question of whether he was worth his maturity risks. Hell, if he was even half the man Maxwell was on D, you can make the same argument. As it stands, KPJ is not even remotely close in talent and ability compared to Dream / AI / Barkley and a fraction of Mad Max on defense.
I'm doing neither, I'm pointing out the hypocrisy and idiocy of a small group that are irrationally critical of the most talented player on the Rockets roster. They excuse literal criminal acts of some while pretending leaving the arena after being benched was an unforgivable crime.... They talk about needing a "real PG" ignoring the existence of Jalen Green and talking about Schroder who objectively made the team worse on both sides of the ball when he was on the court. We even had one of you guys attempting to criticize his 3 point shooting despite the fact that he's one of the best 3 point shooters on the roster It's all just really stupid because it's grasping at straws attempting to justify a position that reality thoroughly debunks.
Yeah, not Hakeem slander at all - just reviewing the facts of young players. Just showing that even great players had some growing up to do. I remember the Akeem years were rough. Until he found himself with in the Muslim religion, he fought every other game and was accused of faking injuries so he didn’t have to play. What DD is saying is true. Even our beloved hero needed some extra time to mature. DD can take care of himself, but his point is comparing the maturity level not the players themselves. Fond memories of Akeem beat the hell of someone and Bill Warrell saying “The young man fights lions with his bare hands”.
