How soon people forget Ron Artest, and Vernon Maxwell, and Allen Iverson, and Charles Barkley and even Hakeem in their early years. DD
Yep, Hakeem was a hot headed young man - same as KPJ ...... I know you think you are funny trying to change the context of the point, but I suspect you knew all along that I was talking about players that struggled with attitude issues when they were young and grew up to be great players. KPJ is very comparable in that context. Look at the legion of haters all liking each others posts - and then complaining when others do the same, like one child like reach around.....you go boys !!! DD
Teams pay players for "Hope" on rookie contracts. Teams reward players for delivering on their 2nd contract and beyond. This is the last year on KPJ's rookie contract and to this point we're still waiting on him to deliver more than "hope". We hope he improves to 20/5/8 ..... Flashes aren't enough when the big money is at stake.
He's already 16/6/4 at 21 years old as the only competent ball handler on a team with almost no help.... it's less "hope" than just reasonable projection.
Oh, I agree, I am fine with them waiting the year and making him a RFA - I don't care if they give him an extension now, or later.....I just think that KPJ is going to have a big year....and for some reason it bugs people.....they are actively rooting against him....... Not everyone, but some are..... DD
The better you are, the more off court nonsense a team should be willing to put up with. All star and future HOF players like charles and hakeem is totally different from someone who may or may not be a starter in the nba
That is fair, but think of it this way, when Dream and Barkley and Iverson came in the league they were about the same age as KPJ is now. DD
Just a little something on my thought process. Stats....pts...rebs...Ast...Stl...TOV...3PA...3P%...FG%...Ast%...TOV%...USG% 21/22: 15.6....4.4.....6.2...1.1....3.1.....6.8....37.5...41.5....30.7.....17.7......24.1 So it's one thing for stats to be steady and average throughout the season; but what if the stats are going from poor (beginning of season) to better (end of season)? How many times have we seen a free agent go to another team and struggle to fit in the first couple of months? Answer: Often. Well how about adding 4 new players in the form of Jalen Green, Josh Christopher, Sengun and Theis? Trying to teach Porter and Jalen Green point guard roles? As it was going I mentioned how it reminded me of when we put Harden and Lin together. Harden would draw the gravity of the defense and hit an open Lin.....Lin would then put his head down and drive.....to where Harden already took the defense. Made no sense, when I wanted Lin to shoot the open 3....Lin drove. When I wanted Lin to drive (Covered as defense rotated); Lin would try to shoot in the face of the defender. We (Rockets) had a lot of that going on in the early part of the season. I posted at the time that both Porter and Green are shooting guards but they would seem to forget that as they were watching each other drive. Sometimes when we focus on a new thing so much....we tend to forget other things. Like learning to dance......counting the steps instead of acting naturally. Most of this season was Porter and Green counting their steps....one-two-three-four-one-two. At the end of the season I saw it all coming together. Porter (21/22.....First 21 games of season: Theis (starter, no spacing), Tate 26% (3P%), Kenyon 29% (3P%), Green 28% (3P%), Porter 31% (3P%), D House 29% (3P%), Nwaba 7.7% (3P%)....one of the toughest schedules with many road games: 13.5 pts..4.4 rebs...5.9 Ast...1.3 stl...4.0 TOV...36.2 (FG%)..31 (3P%) So this takes us to the Lucas blowup and halftime exit: Next 39 games: Porter: 17.1 pts...4.5 Ast..5.4 rebs..1.1 stl..2.7 TOV..7.3 (3PA)..39.6 (3P%)..43.8 (FG%) Remember my prediction for 22/23 season: 20 pts....7.8 Ast....5.5 rebs..1.5 stl..2.4 TOV..8.6 (3PA)..37.8 (3P%)...44.8% (FG%) stats per basketball-reference.com --------------------------------- But Apache, the final games of season? Yes. Let me show you stats of Porter without Wall in 20/21 and stats without Wood in 21/22: 20/21: Porter without Wall (final 16 games of season): 19.0 pts...4.2 rebs...7.5 Ast...3.7 TOV...33.0 (3P%)...6.8 (3PA)...43.8% (FG%) 21/22: Porter without Wood (final 10 games of season): 25 pts....6.8 rebs....6.7 Ast...2.6 TOV..83.3 (FT%)...10.1 (3PA)...39.6 (3P%)%....47.6 FG%) Remember my prediction for 22/23 season: 20 pts....7.8 Ast....5.5 rebs..1.5 stl..2.4 TOV..8.6 (3PA)..37.8 (3P%)...44.8% (FG%) per Statmuse Again, the quality of those final games? Hello? 20/21.(w/o Wall )............21/22 (w/o Wood) Sac...................................Mia (PO team) Uta (PO team) .................LAL Bos (PO team) .................Dal (PO team) Atl (PO team) ..................SAS (PO team) GSW (PO team)................Sac Brk (PO team)...................Sac Bos (PO team)..................Min (PO team) NOP...................................Brk (PO team) Phx (PO team).................Tor (PO team) LAC (PO team).................Atl (PO team) Orl Min Mil (PO team.....50 pts vs eventually champs and Jrue Holiday defense) GSW (PO team) NYK ( PO team) Phi (PO team) Last time I looked......no more Wall/Wood --------------------------------- Catch-n-Shoot 3's determines a lot of the success on offense this upcoming season: I hear Tate has been looking good from 3 this summer. Sengun looks thinner and shooting 3's during these games recently. Last year's Catch-n-Shoot 3's: 21/22 season Sengun 27.7%.....................................Schroder 34.1% Nwaba 28.3% .....................................Kenyon 35.8% Nix 28.6%............................................Jalen Green 35.2% Garuba 29.4%......................................Mathews 36.8% Tate 30.5%...........................................Wood 39.7% J Christopher 31.2%............................Eric Gordon 42.8 ...........................Porter jr 48.2% (21/22)...33.3 (20/21).....40.7% (19/20) Over 40% appears more the norm than the 33.3%. ---------------------- Last thing is the dribbles: 21/22 ...................... frequency........FG%............eFG% 0 Dribbles...............20.3 ...........54.3..............72.0 1 Dribble..................9.0.............42.5..............58.4 2 Dribbles................8.3.............32.8..............41.8 3-6 Dribbles............32.5............41.8..............50.6 7+ Dribbles...........29.8...........34.4.............39.2 3-Pt shot off dribbles .................... frequency............3P% 0 Dribbles..............15.0...............47.9 1 Dribble................15.3...............37.2 2 Dribbles................5.1......….......29.3 3-6 Dribbles............14.1..............40.4 7+ Dribbles............11.6.............24.5 So I'm asking Porter to eliminate the 7+ or greater dribbling. Silas adding more movement and screens should have the ball exchanging hands often. I'm pretty confident Porter will hit the marks I've predicted. If you look at the "without Wood" numbers of 25 pts and 10.1 (3PA).....7.5 Ast's "without Wall" numbers, he could probably hit higher numbers. But if I'm his agent, I tell him get less points on less dribbling and Shot for 7-8 assists instead of 9-10.....unless it's within the flow of the game. Less being more in this situation. He is auditioning for 29 other teams as well. It's not cult following stuff....it's a beautiful basketball mind stuff. Not for everyone's liking or understanding.
I'm hoping for the best outcome for both KPJ and the Rox, but you really need to stop with the Dream comparison in regards to KPJ. Dream never got arrested for stupid ish. Nor accused of hitting a woman. And the like... Same goes for Barkley. You know the actual story does not line up with the narrative you're trying to create. C'mon man.
See Porter wasn't arrested for that either - no charges were filed and it turned out to be nothing, but people assume that he did it. Here is something Dream did....that was not cool, and he had to pay for it. https://thesportsrush.com/nba-news-...ing-pregnant-and-paid-10000-to-not-marry-her/ Dream is my favorite all time Rocket, but I am saying he was not all that mature early in his career. Most fans here are just too young to know. Barkley got arrested in 1991, and started to strip naked. https://www.sportingnews.com/us/nba...-arrest-1991-story/1bf87avhbu4y91lle1j35sxczc So, don't jump down KPJ as he matures....it happens to the best of us. Researching before arguing is a good thing....some of you that troll here should learn that. DD
so this is where we’re at now…bringing up All-Time greats and comparing them to KPJr of all people as if the only thing people have an issue with is KPJr’s off the court stuff when that is just the icing on the cake for a player who has yet to be more than mediocre at best on the court the disrespect for actual greatness is outta control
Not surprising that people with an agenda against KPJ will try to change the narrative. Instead of dealing with the facts that even great players had some growing up to do, and to not judge players while they mature. You lot are sad - and poor at trolling. List of people trolling in this thread. Reeko King1 DD
Certainly an argument can be made for Giannis. IMO, the top tier of current 1 on 1 players is Luka, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and Harden. Those 3 ISO much more than everyone else and they are all very efficient at it. Those 3 guys also get double teamed more than anyone else in the league. The interesting thing is that these guys teams score at an uber efficient rate when they are doubled. Giannis is is similar except that he doesn't isolate as much and he isn't doubled quite as much as the other 3. His results though are fantastic. Durant and Kyrie are also in the conversation.
Same folks who said Brunson isn’t that good keeping that same energy with CBrick or nah. I suspect not. It always depends on the narrative to pick and choose when it applies
It's funny its considered trolling saying KPJ isn't a good basketball player. DD is always wrong though so no surprise
I'll tell you what Brunson does extremely well - run the pick and roll. Of players who run pick and roll at least 3 times per game, he's got the 3rd highest points per possession (PPP) at 1.06. That's a skill that the Rockets could really use. We ran pick and roll 17.8 times per game last year and we are really bad at it (0.81 ppp). To put that ppp into context, Dwight Howard's ppp on postups with the Rockets was 0.82. Last year, Gordon was our best at 0.84 ppp. You just can't do something almost 18 times a game and be that bad at it. That's an area where we have to get a whole lot better.
