Brunson was an UFA and showed he could play and contribute at a high level in the playoffs and throughout the season, even with their best player missing time. the use of brunson as some example is just dumb none of which correlates to a guy who plays for a 20 win team playing in meaningless games . nobody is rushing to give out some ridiculous contract for that
But you can bet when he is, there will be people arguing to not pay him.... and Rockets fans will disagree. Same as with those who argue against extending KPJ, the most talented player on the roster.
Kinda funny when Steph makes $48M Klay makes $40M Dray makes $25.8M Wiggins makes $33.6M No, we can't pay Kevin Porter Jr $18M with TV and Streaming contracts being set at record highs in 2025. Lol
I rather extend him on a team-friendly contract than wait for the market to determine (maybe falsely) what he's worth. I'm ready to see what KPJ and Green can do together this season.
From what I can tell, most of the "Rockets fans" who are against KPJ are only against him because they feel like he's a threat to Jalen Green (or Sengun for the few that applies to), which is just weird.
very much doubt anyone dislikes him because he's a threat to green (wtf?), most rational people see his horrendous metrics and don't automatically want to max him out. Would i do something like 3/36 with a team option? Probably, would i do something like 4/72? HELL no. He will be an RFA, even if he explodes all of a sudden, you can just match if someone gives him an offer sheet
I suppose there's some that just don't know basketball well enough to recognize talent when they see it. At least those who are blinded by player only fandom have an excuse.
Seems to me most are, "Holier Than Thou," types. Porter is a felon because he and C Wood left the team at halftime. Nevermind that Ben Simmons refused to play for the 76ers, Kawhi insisted on being traded from the Spurs, Harden bailed on the Rockets then Nets, Durant is demanding a trade from the Nets. Kyrie refuses to get vaccinated and only plays half the games. Kyrie makes $33M to Porter's $3.2M. What's worse, leaving a team at halftime for one game or leaving the team for 41 complete games? Porter did his suspension paid his fine. Apologized to the team. Did the time for the crime. Nothing after that shows he wants to go thru that again. Young blood doesn't want to lose that money. People want to be judge, jury and executioner all in one.....but wouldn't want that done on to them. Half the teams would take Porter right now as he is a headache to guard. Current history or not.
One can't seriously compare the disparity between KPJ's Rookie contract to Irving's (11 year vet) max while trying to make a remotely serious argument. Houston fans love KPJ. In fact he’d be hard pressed to find a more supportive fanbase/organization given his laundry list of altercations and poor behavior to date. Why are some so eager to overpay him this summer without him earning it? It’s sort of a perfect situation as is. I don’t think many here would balk at a cheap team friendly deal if one needed to be signed immediately. However what’s the harm in KPJ proving his worth here over the course of this upcoming season? We need a bigger sample size of his improved play if he truly wants the bag.
Why are some people assuming there will be a significant incident? Aren't both wrong? We just let Wall sit for $41M and bought me out of $44M
KPJr has literally had an incident every year for like the past 5… people aren’t just making assumptions out of thin air I am confused as to what John Wall has to do anything? we got KPJr for a top 55 protected pick just a year ago…Half the teams in the NBA taking him is not a fact, and half of them wanting to pay him the numbers that have been floated around here? Yeah, I doubt that
KPJ's incident this year was NOTHING compared to previous. The dude got frustrated, was already injured and left the arena - he wasn't even playing in the 2nd half..... It would be one thing if he quit when he was playing, but that was not what happened.....so he got mad, left.....then apologized. And in 1.5 years that is all that has happened in Houston, I don't care what happened elsewhere. Move on. DD
imagine throwing something at the coaching staff, and then just leaving the arena at halftime, and that’s considered not a big deal Did they give him permission to go anywhere? No And why did he throw his temper tantrum and leave? Because they were trying to coach him
Good discussion going on in this thread and I can understand both sides of the takes. One thing to keep in mind, KPJ isn't as good as C Wood, or close to Kawhi, Harden, or Kyrie are as players. Those players either proved themselves with less issue history or became true superstars in their value. KPJ has excellent potential, but his production is as of last year an average or a slightly below league average player. Compare his shooting percentages to league averages: https://www.basketball-reference.com/leagues/NBA_stats_per_game.html He ranks 202nd in the league for PER, not the greatest stat, and definitely has flaws I know, but we could pull up numbers for starting point guards and check his ranking if others have it. http://www.espn.com/nba/hollinger/statistics/_/page/5 But I support him and hope he finally fulfills his potential and takes it to another level this season. If he shows and proves himself, pay the man appropriately. But I think given his history a team-friendly deal is appropriate, but if he has no issues for the whole year and puts up all-star or borderline all-star numbers and defense, that will look great in negotiations.
Craziest part is now he’s dating Lucas’s goddaughter after throwing something at him Lucas gonna be the father he never had as his coach and it’s going to be a heartwarming part of the 30 for 30 they’ll make on this new dynasty
