Teams OVERPAY for RFA to force the other team to let him go, numerous cases of this have happened, we did it for Jeremy Lin - it happens all the time RFA get a contract that is beyond their normal value and teams let them walk for zero compensation. The RFA situation is worse than the UFA......because an UFA can just go where he wants even if it is less money. DD
Astrorule has it 100% bassackwards on the RFA vs UFA......and I am not saying the "IF" will happen. I HOPE it does.....I have repeatedly said, I would offer him a 2 year 12-13m per year deal with a team option for the 3rd year....TODAY.......but if he wants more, I would let the market set the price. DD
This makes no sense because you can say the same thing with Green and Smith what do you do if the best player overlaps with them? At this point it does not matter the team should be in talent acquisition and having guys that overlap makes no difference and nobody knows how good rookies actually are, we do know how KPJ looks against actual NBA talent but we should care about a rookie and IF he is as good? Its crazy because you had people on here talking about not drafting Banchero because of Sengun and now this. If you lock yourself into a long term deal with any of these guys, things become more difficult and complicated using your example.
You realize Houston was going to draft Banchero but Orlando changed their mind? Nobody wants KPJ. Period. He jS tge opportunity to prove people wrong. Let's see h hog the ball and lose games. He's at least good at that
They are not that far off, and Haliburton has had better players around him. But Haliburton is a step above, I give him that.
if you draft a better player at his position, you trade him as an asset to get something you need, I don't want to be in a position of giving up a good player for nothing. DD
So it's your opinion that thus far Jalen Green has been "outright bad" then? I'd disagree... but of course the arguement comes down to player evaluation.
Ya, it happened many years ago to market an asian guy, but in almost all situations RFA gets squeezed, because teams don’t want to tie up cap space just to have to orher team get matched. Brunson does not get his deal if he’s restricted
He was a rookie guard, of course he was bad. Rookie guards (young ones) are almost always bad. If he’s the same next year and the year after as he was this year, would you consider him a bust? Or a superstar? Or what?
Really need this season to start. Buying league pass just so I can witness KPJ tear this fan base apart
What Houston would have done has nothing to do with what I posted. My point was I got into multiple arguments with people saying we should not draft Banchero because of Sengun, I knew the Rockets would draft who they thought was the best player regardless. I was responding to the poster saying we should sign him early because of who we might draft, you draft the best talent period and figure it out later with a team this bad. Houston wants KPJ the fact that you can't even acknowledge shows you can't be rational when discussing him.
Their are definitely people rooting against KPJ we both know it, thats what this board does to certain players.
That is 100% exactly my issue, it is embarrassing that people are rooting against him....there are reasonable ones who just want to wait it out....Clutch, Easy etc...but there are those that are actively cheering for him to fail.....what assholes. DD
Both of those were good, they both sucked after leaving so it's good we didn't extend them (parsons was fine for dallas for 2 years then horrific)
Why would anyone root against him? I don't understand this thinking. The only player i could ever think of rooting against that was a rocket (technically) was derek fisher. I could not root for draymond if he was a rocket though, so it's possible i guess
