The difference CHUM, is that it has happened for YEARS but we didn't hear about it.....hell we just found out that Vernon Maxwell wanted to stab Dream for slapping him at half time. Judging a player when you have half the facts, is frankly stupid.....you weren't there, you aren't in his shoes, you don't know what was said, neither do I, but the org accepted his apology and as fans we should too. It would suck to be you and rooting so hard for him to fail that it ruins the Rockets watching for you......grow up CHUM ! DD
Forget about it DD. They will always move the goal posts. Rockets are on record before the season saying they wanted KPj to focus on running the offense like a quarterback. Less about scoring. If we turned the kid loose he would have 23 points and 3 assists like Dinwiddie, Tim Hardaway jr, SGA, D Fox...... Brunson. All of which got paid big bucks. Instead the Rockets held KPj back and asked him to read the defense and then dribble penetrate in an elevator with defenders. People can look at the highlights and see 3 to 4 defenders each trip.
The problem with this is that if KPJ is the same as he's been his 1st 3 seasons, you now have 60 mil in basically dead money. He needs to have ONE season where he's actually a legitimate nba player before you could pay him that. If someone is going to pay him 5-6 times his value, then it's ok to let him go.
No you don't... KPJ was not a bad player last year. 15/6/4 with a 2:1 assist:turnover ration, not horrible on defense. His efficiency could get better, but i think that will cause it was great after the first month or so. Which is kind of my point... the KPJ we have already seen, in today's market, is basically that contract. Remember the cap will keep jumping too, seemingly.
Players are horrendous at evaluating players, why would it matter what dame or lebron think? That's not their job.
He was not worth anything last season in terms of his on court production. Yes, you might sucker a team like the knicks or hornets into looking at 15/6/4 but any smart team will look beyond that, and would consider him almost completely dead salary. You'd be severely limited to only a few of the really dumb teams at that point, which is why i wouldn't be willing to take the risk until he actually shows SOMETHING positive.
What? I'm still so upset that TMac told me Stromile would be an allstar and Harden told me Westbrook is what the team needs!
No... you're just looking at win/loss impact and concluding "not a winning player!". Yeah, like the entire roster. Its a bunch of 22yo and under plus half a season of Eric Gordon and CWood thinking he's the next coming. Impact on W/L is useless. Frankly, IMO, you put KPJ on a team like the Suns, or Bucks, he becomes EXTREMELY valuable. He's one of the top catch and shoot 3 point shooters in the league statistic wise. He can create (see 2:1 ratio) and hes not lock down at defense but not bad. Now maybe the dynamics of who has cap space means he doesnt get paid or overpaid... but the dynamics of who the FAs are means he might - it is not by any means a super exciting FA class.
ya, by a players 3rd season i would expect/hope that they have SOME positive impact, he has not. In a much smaller role as a 6th-7th man for 20 mpg where his role is mostly spotting up, playing defense, and creating with an advantage (which would be his role on a good team) i think he can be valuable, but thats midlevel type backup money, not 4/80. He's not playing 35 mpg and handling the ball on any of the good teams because he sucked at it
lol wow.. you really are on Kyrie's level of lunacy. Alex Jones said it, so it must be true! Craig Ackerman said it so it must be true! Lebron said it so it must be true! You also have no idea what was said between players, coaches, and KPJ during all of his incidents dating back to high school all the way up to this past season. Yet even with all that history, years and years of negative events and actual proof of him showing bad character, you are blatantly ignoring all of the facts and brushing them off as if it were nothing. And just this past season, 1) he left the game at halftime after Coach Lucas gave him and CWood an earful for their poor effort, 2) refused to sub out of a game and completely ignored Coach Silas in which he stopped playing multiple times due to not getting calls his way and forcing bad turnovers. These are all facts and not made up events. It was clear for all of us to see, any idiot Rocket fan like myself who had the gall to watch almost every single game this season. Not once did any of the posters who are advocating against extending KPJ for big money this offseason post anything to suggest that we are actively rooting against KPJ. We all want the Rockets to do better and to get closer to championship contention, however far that may be... and if KPJ is actually miraculously able to turn around his career and breakout this season, then it obviously changes things and puts the Rockets that much closer to getting back to contention, and he deserves all the money that will come his way. On top of that, he'll be an RFA so if he really becomes that good, then the team will likely match whatever offer there is on the market. But the reality is, he hasn't shown anything close to being that kind of player in the past 3 years. Just stating his past misconduct and his on-court inefficiencies, things that are FACT-based are suddenly now opinions and narratives??? What crazy world do you live in?
He's never been on a good team, so not sure how you can say he sucked at it. Again, the most important thing is the market has been set. Keldon Johnson, RJ Barret, etc. Without looking it up, how much do you think Kevin Huerter got in his extension?
was it 4/64? KPJ has also never had even close to a season like johnson last season or barret his 2nd season (or even RJ's down 3rd season)
We are in no rush, why even think about basing current contracts with the expectation that the cap will rise in 2025? Pay players what they are worth now, not what contracts may become 3 years from now. Who knows.. maybe some top tier free agents will be available to sign or trade for in 2025 that fit our team better, even if they are more expensive come then. Not only that, given how crazy the past 3 years have been with COVID, the Ukraine war and now with the recession and crazy inflation, I think it would be unwise to operate as if everything will work towards a guaranteed higher cap come 2025. China's economy has really faltered and they are a big financial proponent and market for the NBA. And who knows how US/China relations will be in 2025. Just feel uneasy operating as if the cap will 100% increase when that's still a few years away.
Y’all still arguing with these morons about KPJ? Season is right around the corner. They’ll see soon enough how dumb these negative takes are
We need a thread where we can discuss if Ukraine's recent successful counteroffensive attack makes KPJ more or less valuable to the Rockets
Yeah, you can't read..... I said I had no idea either.... And the org is fine with what happens, they accepted his apology. What crazy world? The one in which you give people chances to grow and prove themselves and don't let small things define them their entire life or career.....the one that has raised children and knows that they make mistakes and that they will learn from it. I get that you are just a kid....and I figure you will get it someday... DD
Was mentioned by other posters much much earlier in this thread... but for anyone who keeps pointing out to KPJ's last 10 games of the season as if it's some positive trend, remember that the Rockets played a majority of those games against tanking teams (Portland back to back, Sacramento back to back, San Antonio). If you guys watched the games, then you should remember that Portland barely fielded an NBA-worthy roster and Sacramento wasn't any much better in terms of their roster either.
Exactly. For Kevin Hurter, lol. That doesnt mean overpay cause someone else got overpaid, but the overpays DO contribute to market setting. And idk, Keldon and KPJ seem pretty equally effective to me. Keldon has some better advanced stats, particularly around wins/winning, but Keldon played next to DeJonte and was coached by Pop - pretty meaningful differences. Its like Andrew Wiggins being a bad defender his whole career turning into an all star and one of the best defenders on his teams in the NBA FINALS! Situation is so important in these analyses. Whether I'd rather have KPJ or Keldon right now is a toss up, but I'd probably still rather have KPJ because his upside to me is way higher... even though his downside is likely lower.
Posted this before in this thread but will repost for relevance. Take it for what it is but here’s how 538 graded his production value in dollars. https://projects.fivethirtyeight.com/2023-nba-player-projections/kevin-porter-jr/ For the 21/22 season they valued his production at 10.7 million and have projected his future 5 year worth to be around 71 million. For comparison Keldon Johnson was valued at 17.3 million and his projected 5 year value to be 83.5
An old fart resorting to childish name-calling. Clutchingpearls? lol why am I not surprised when your brain is obviously fried just like Kyrie. And what's with people calling other adults "kid" as if you have some sort of higher level of authority. Funny how in all of your years of life, you haven't matured all that much. Good on you, DD.
