Is this where the topic is going now, that KPJ is comparable to Harden but is just too honest to draw fouls and shoot 10 free throws a game?
Good god, no, it is about usage, and success rates..... Look at the end of the day this is nonsense. the guy is a 21 year old who has played 1 year at PG, and people are blasting him for learning to be a helluva player. I, along with Lebron, Lillard, Ackerman and many others think he is really good with all star potential. others, think he is just not that good. At the end of the day his play will decide.......and those haters, will need to acknowledge their prejudices. DD
If KPJ was half the playmaker that Harden showcased his first year as point, you think any of us would still be having this discussion? KPJ would be extended by now well worth of $20M. Harden was was an efficient scorer in addition to being an innate playmaker. What has KPJ been? A head case. An inefficient scorer. Mediocre playmaker. A poor FT shooter. Often questionable decision maker. These are serious flaws for someone still young and impressionable. He also often has trouble recognizing beyond initial reads. This is the same reason why Green quickly became a much better scorer. That I can pass off as lack of experience and knowledge trying to learn a new position. However, what he also has is crafty moves in 1v1 matchups, solid D, and great open shooter from anywhere but the foul line for whatever reason. He also has pretty good peripheral vision and able to make some nice in the moment passes. These are traits immediately transferable as a 6th man and injection of offense into a sagging team. If KPJ can become a more efficient scorer OR a smarter/wiser playmaker (doesn't have to be both), then he has a chance to step into stardom.
“I don’t care about TS% when comparing players” is one of the most hilarious sentences ever said. Do you also not care about pitchers era? Qb completion %? Is all data just worthless in DD land lol
You don't care about facts .... just the fairy tale Craig Ackerman reads you at bed time. Quick, someone photoshop KPJ as Cinderella. I couldn't care less about a true pass first PG. I just want a competent & efficient PG. Competent is not ranking in the bottom fifth in ppp in isolation and efficient isn't ranking in the bottom third in ppp in pick and roll.
Ya harden wasn’t a traditional pass first pg, neither is curry. Who cares? The problem with kpj is he completely sucks at the scoring part and also sucks at the playmaking part. If that actually matters
Okay, but we need to recognize that the gap, even at 3rd year, is drastically different between Harden and KPJ. They are not even on the same planet. KPJ has complete free reigns over the offense. Harden had to carve a role playing off the bench, behind Westbrook and Durant. The thing is, no one is saying he can't be a good player. In fact, I'm sure many would be ecstatic if he turned into an all-star. However, the fact of the matter is his maturity and on-court performance has not put him on that path, and so until then, it is only sensitive to either extend him later, or extend him on a very team friendly contract. I mean, when Jalen Green was struggling early on in the season, no one would say his stats and performance is good because he had to play next to a first time PG, or he had a rookie for a coach, or his spacing included Theis and Tate on the court, or that he had to work around a bad team player in Wood. Sane people would recognize those things work against him, but that doesn't mean he was playing well. We can certainly argue that because KPJ is a 1st time PG, or is learning the ropes, that his stats are not good, but let's not spin it around and say that his numbers are actually really good.
i keep reading here over and over again page after page that kpj is just a 21yr old for the record, he’s 22!
Lol at comparing KPJ to James Harden. You would think it would be impossible to be that stupid but it's DD so we know his history here
The reality for all on this board is that KPJ is just a placeholder for Ty Ty. He ain’t worth the problems he brings to the team, no matter how athletic he is and is not a good fit with our newer clean cut players Green and Smith. It’s imperative to the future of those two young men that we let him walk after this season (or after his halftime stint last year, maybe I should have said “drive off”).
After all, the guy did model his game to be like Harden Career trajectory are similar https://basketball.realgm.com/player/Kevin-Porter-Jr/Comparison/95883/James-Harden/1598
lmao, they’re still trying… career trajectories are nowhere close…Harden was an All-Star caliber player in his 3rd season KPJ modeled his game after Harden? Lol, and so? He is a bootleg James Harden starter kit I would say these posts are a poor attempt at trolling, but these people are actually serious
But maybe not as a PG/facilitator. It might be that his best role is as a 6th man in the mold of Jamal Crawford or Eric Gordon. The problem is that it might be hard to accept, especially on this team, after starting for a few years. You probably aren’t talking about much difference in pay, but sometimes pride gets in the way.
KPJ's floor is higher than Titty's ceiling and I think most intelligent Rockets fans understand that, unfortunately we have a small but loud group of the other kind of "Rockets fans" in this thread derping things up. I just wish the season would hurry up and get here so we'd have more data points to break the stalemate in the KPJ discussion.
Absolutely 100%! Oh and you got no idea what TyTy's ceiling is. He was a projected lottery pick for a reason. Unless you have some more insider info no one else is privy to. Or is this another Bobstradamus vision???
That is correct when we are talking about developing players in a new position. I don't have expectations that they will be all world at 21 years of age in a brand new position. Hell, I was shocked that he averaged more than 6 assists a game with Tate out there bricking everything......I get it....stats are fun, we can argue about stats all day long. At the end of the day, I like him, you don't - and I don't care that you don't.....lol.... Or TyTy will be out of the league like most guys drafted that low.....or Nix.......or none of the 3 will be here ......no one knows. DD
we've seen KPJ floor, if Washingtons ceiling is lower then THAT he should be cut or traded before the season even starts. A 4th season of data for KPJ could change a lot of the views of him, if he shows meaningful improvement and shows that he could be a potential long term starter that would be awesome
