22, mediocre at best so far, and has proven nothing, yet being compared to someone in Brunson who has proven himself in meaningful games and contributed to a WCF team make it make sense
KPJr's way more talented than Brunson, and has already displayed it over periods of time. Brunson's overachieved, and the Knicks overpaid. I mean, he's got an alright floor, but that's pretty much it. While Kevin has SOME downside risk still, his upside is on another planet. It's apples and oranges in more ways than one.
Rafael has yet to do anything, to my knowledge, DD. So far, as far as I can tell, all we’ve got is some background “noise.” I’ll be shocked if Stone hands KPJ an extension before the season (but hey, I’ve been shocked before). Just a guess, but if there really are discussions about an extension, it isn’t unreasonable for both sides to do due diligence and toss around some numbers. Wouldn’t be surprised if they are. In my opinion, what Stone might be offering (again, if this is going on) is much less than Kevin and his agent would be willing to accept. Rafael might likely then say,”Let’s revisit this at the end of the season. I could end up regretting it, but right now this is the best I can do.” Just a guess on my part, of course. The can gets kicked down the road, the deadline deal season remains in the background, and we get to see how this rebuild plays out and how or if KPJ fits in it. Who knows? Perhaps KPJ takes a lowball offer from Stone. Pure speculation, which is what we do a lot of here, right?
We already have that bet, and reports are that the Rockets are interested in an extension too....get used to being frustrated for the next few years as KPJ blows up as a Rocket (In a good way). DD
This. It's not just what KPJ is worth. It's how you distribute your salaries for the whole team and who you want to be your future core. If either Nix or Washington is good enough to be a competent starting role player, you may not want to keep KPJ as your starting PG. And if we happen to get Scoot Henderson next year, what are you going to do with him and Green if you are tied up with a large long term contract with KPJ? We have so many young pieces who have the potential to be the team's cornerstones, unless KPJ proves that he is that kind of player, you want to keep your options open until you are sure who will be your core. You can't afford 5 max contracts simultaneously. You have to pick two or three guys and then surround them with competent role players.
This is the equivalent of saying "If Josh Christopher is good enough to be a competent starting role player, you may not want to keep Jalen Green as your starting SG" It's absolutely absurd.... and the fact that some don't realize that is high comedy.
I agree.....the point is that Raf wants KPJ - even at a lower cost he still values him and @King1 said no one with intelligence wants him which is fundamentally a lie. DD
I think most people would be cool if he got a reasonable, tradeable extension in the 8-10/year range. The brunson comps are laughable as kpj has never cone remotely close to brunsons performance, and even if he somehow does, as an RFA he won’t get overpaid like that anyway.
Lol of course "most people" would be okay if a player signed a deal for literally half of what they should sign for.... I'd love it if Green and Smith signed deals for 8 mill a year when it's time to extend them too.... but it's that reasonable? Being a complete cheapskate with your best players is a way to stay terrible forever and run off all the talent on the team.
The dude put up a 13.5 per, 53% TS, and less then 1 win share in his 3rd season. If jalen is that horrendous in his 3rd year, then no I wouldn’t offer him a big contract. Why would you pay big money for mediocrity? Why are you so obsessed with becoming the kings?
So 25 year old Dallas Maverick Jalen Brunson has people here fawning? REally? "Meaningful games" LOLLLLLLLLL I wonder what Scooter would look like playing next to Luka Doncic? Good stuff Clutch Fans.
You're cherry picking and not looking at the skills. Jalen Green would have to develop quite a bit to have the range of skills KPJ had last year. KPJ had 76 games of NBA experience going into last season, Green already has 67.... how many more will he need before he develops the handle, court vision, and passing ability to run the offense as well as KPJ did last year? How many more will he need to learn how to play any defense at all? You are oddly hyper critical of KPJ while holding no other player to that kind of standard, it's weird. Now I'm super high on all of the Rockets' young core, they all fit well together and have a super high ceiling.... keeping them together is part of optimizing their development though. Without KPJ to primarily run the point, you harm Green and Smith and put a TON of pressure on Sengun while removing the best catch and shoot option on the team. No one is suggesting maxing him out, but something in the 15-18 mill a year range is absolutely a no brainer. He wouldn't even be a top 20 paid starting PG and you'd avoid having to pay him 20+ mill next season or lose him and hurt the development of the rest of the young core.... while showing them you are unwilling to pay your top players, meaning they should probably start looking for the exits if they ever want to win anything.
Lol what? When reports don't fit your agenda you blow them off but you want to take a few random on Twitter now? Huge hypocrite. I do agree he'll blow up just not in a way we would all want for the team. You'll be wrong again like always and move on to another bum
I don't like Brunson nor his contract but Luka would strangle KPJ if he had to deal with him.kPJ would be traded or cut
