This has just gotten so out of control, it's really sad. There was a time on this board where you could debate the merits and strengths/weaknesses of the team or players and have an enjoyable time doing it. Now, if you ever dare utter a critical word of Yao, you will recieve pages and pages of name calling and irrational anger - it's worse than if you talked about someone's mother. I'll try to keep my Yao opinons to myself from now on as it's impossible to have someone debate with intelligence and an open mind about him. I have never once called anyone out of their name. Never said anyone was stupid or and idiot or any of those things, but I have recieved pages of it in return. It's just not worth it anymore. So from now on to make you happy and sleep well at night, let's all repeat: Yao is the beginning and the end He is omnipotent There was no basketball before him - only chaos There can be no basketball without him All other life on this or any other planet only exists to extoll the virtues of The One who is Yao He is the wisest of all The Greatest of all For this and any other time Amen.
Personally, I find the Yao-only fans are not nearly as bad as the people who are constantly complaining about Yao-only fans.
I avoided posting in your other thread but I did manage to read some of it. And I would not classify Yao and Moochie for Dampier and Van Exel as an intelligent debate. And FYI, if you want to have an "intelligent debate" with others you have got to have something intelligent to say.
egn, What you are basically saying is that if someone doesn't agree with you, then they are not intelligent. Since we are dealing with unknowns - no one knows for sure how Yao's career will turn out - what is it that makes one person's speculation more or less intelligent than another's? If anything I tried to present to you some statistical data to back up my opinion. The data that I have found suggests that unless Yao embarks upon an improvement curve no elite level big man has done in the past twenty years, he will not attain that level. And that there's a possibility that Yao may end up being a second tier star that is certainly an important piece to the puzzle butnot someone that an entire team can be built around. Most of the responses I recieved were "You're stupid. Go away." Very few came back and said, "Well based on this data or this career or these tendencies, I think it's very possible. Why can't the debate be like that? Why can't we just toss the ideas around while still understanding that were are (mostly) all Rockets fans and we share our love of the team and want it to do well? Is that too much to ask?
You already have one "Yao" thread. There was no need to start another. In your own words "enough is enough".
