Not to mention the fact that Feigen's article said that 80 members of the organization were called into a mandatory meeting by Les himself and were told that a new era (Ming) was beginning. All this five days after the lottery and before any "down to the wire" negotiations with the Chinese had begun.

Rocket!!!'s stance all along couldn't have been more wrong.

 

I, too, was bewildered by all the senior members' apparent appreciation of ROCKET!!!'s supposed insider info. I figured I had somehow missed what must have been confirmation of his sources. Thanks for clearing it up, Clutch.

I have appreciated ROCKET!!!'s tone and demeanor. He's far from a TroyBaros. But it seems to me that some serious crow eating is in order. I mean, he does seem to have sent many here on a wild goose chase trying to decipher clues which apparently led nowhere.

 

D*mn! I was wondering what that loud thud was. It was the sound of ROCKET!!!'s credibility crashing back to earth. I guess the score is Achebe 1, the rest 0.

 

I've been hanging around here for quite awhile, and I must say that Rocket!!! either just got a job with the Rockets this year or he is a poseur. I've been looking for Doc Rocket, PE/OP, and Clutch threads for years, but prior to the last few months, I do not recall anything remarkable about Rocket!!!

Furthermore, I don't see any of those with established credibility starting a thread that seems to be just an avenue for them to say "Look at me, I have insider info." I certainly don't see any of those three paying as much attention to the threads they start as Rocket!!! does. OP and Doc hang around and answer a few questions here and there at times, but they don't sustain the threads to the degree that Rocket!!! does.

Finally, the tone exhibited in most Rocket!!! posts has a little too much braggadacio and a slight enough lack of sophistication for me to believe this guy hangs around RT and CD during rookie evaluations and other important franchise dealings.

Of course, I could be wrong. If I am, I'd like Rocket!!! to communicate his bonafides to Clutch, so that Clutch could then vouch for the connections, as he has done several times with Doc and OP. If this happens, I will quickly offer my apology.

The only reason why I've been commenting on Rocket!!!'s newfound sourciness is because of the oddities of Rocket!!!'s situation. Plus, this is a community to which we contribute (or in my situation, detract ) and honesty is intuitively a prerequisite for meaningful communication. To lie is to disrespect your listener; each person ends up wasting time. In this medium, readers and posters waste time... and more quantifable: server space.

If we are wrong about Rocket!!!, we'll apologize (eat crow or whatever) and the board will go on. If we are right, Rocket!!! will apologize and the board will go on. Either way though, the community will be better for it... merely because we will have been able to ensure the integrity of the board.

I for one hope that I'm wrong. Not only do I love crow (I prefer galliformes) but it would be great for the board to have yet another 'insider'. I remain dubious, however.

 

You are very right, Ach! I have been sending out questions without even remotely thinking about this guy being an imposter. I did however question him earlier on what I called then the Rocket!!! machinations. Like you I hope he is not a fraud, because I spend too much time on this board for it to prove to be so futile.

 

I think its interesting that sometimes DocRocket and Oeilpere's information clashes too, yet both are often dead on...

Its a good possibility that the 2 new "inside sources" on this board, Rocket!!! and TroyBaros, are close to those involved on the inside of the Rocket organization. But noone is CD or Rudy... and whatever is reported are different takes on what someone else thinks... and perhaps, if you talked to Les, you'd get an even different perspective. Remember the radio game? I think its fascinating to get different perspectives from those around the inside. And I do know that the Rockets have a personal personna that is VERY different from its public personna.

I agree, that Rocket!!! ought to explain a little better what happened, just so we understand the picture better, especially since he chided DocRocket the way he did.

Remember, that all sorts of things get discussed. For every actual transaction, perhaps a hundred are discussed and brainstormed... and everyone has a different opinion, that they easily infuse into their reporting...

I was intrigued to hear what TroyBaros had to say, but hated the way he said it, and his offensively arrogant attitude. And, ironically, what he did, was turn many against his "friend," Stevie Franchise. But Rocket!!! has been friendly and not taken insults personally, and shown a fair amount of class in his informative posts, which I think he should be commended for... and I'm glad he's been responsive instead of illusive...

Good points! Many on the board claimed that Troy Barros would have been excepted had his attitude been deferent. Well ROCKET!!!'s attitude has been friendly.

Like you I think it is possible that ROCKET!!! knows some of the players or maybe he works at Westside or is a member there and sees some of the players from time to time. If that is the case then I could certainly understand why he thinks he is getting solid info if Steve or Cat or Eddie tells him something when in fact Rudy T or CD would very likely not tell one of his players what they were really planning. Could you imagine the number of trades that would get squashed if player a called player b and said, "hey man you are getting traded!"

I worked for the Mavericks a few years back (before Cuban) and had a lot of access to the players. I could tell you some of the gossip, who liked who, who the loners were and some of the rumors but I was limited to speculation just like everyone else when it came to team moves.

Maybe ROCKET!!! is a fraud but maybe he is not. Maybe he just gets his info from players he has met and then makes assumptions. I don't know but if someone knows for sure that he is a fraud then I wish they would step up and say something definitive.

 

Oeilpere posted early on that the Rockets' organization was not 100% sold on Ming, for whatever reasons. Obviously the organization had a change of heart.

ROCKET!!! probably posted what he knew, when he knew it. Certainly I paid attention. Summer is boring as a fan of a non-playoff basketball team.

 

This is where this board has this whole thing backwards... the board does not have to prove anyone is a fraud. The person has to prove himself not a fraud. The easiest way to do this is to get scoops. Has ROCKET!!! done this? I try not to read too much into all these so-called "new insiders" simply because I could come on here next week and say "I heard..." and it should mean nothing unless it comes to fruition.

I mean, geez, at least let the guy get something right before you worship him. This thread is borderline hilarious as I read through it. Some of these guys are like the bbs version of tele-evangelists. Big following, but for no apparent reason other than they seem bigger than life and have powers we mere mortals don't have.

There are only a handful of people on this bbs that I trust with "inside info". They are Clutch, Doc Rocket, oeilpere, and Old School. I may have left somebody off, so forgive me.

I tell you what, I'm going to Cali in a couple of days to enjoy some beach weather and all the Rockets' summer league games. If I send you guys pics, recaps, and whatnot, can I be an insider, too? Would you worship me, too? I mean, I'd be giving you info that you otherwise wouldn't have. Not to mention I'd be giving you something concrete and factual.

I have nothing against ROCKET!!!, I just think he speaks in general terms, and the one time he tried to be specific, it was wrong. I mean come on... "the Rockets want to be 2 deep at every position". Really? Oh boy. Just messin' with you ROCKET!!!... I may have missed something specific you got right with all the threads being belched up these days. I hope you can nail a few of your predictions; I don't mind having a few more "inside sources", but I'm not about to genuflect before just anybody that comes in here and preaches the Gospel According to Insider.
