So you're telling me what my beliefs are and what they are not? And I know exactly what "Max" is saying. I'd actually like to know how you interpret his words since y'all are best buddies. And you're right, I am young. And by you saying that leads me to believe that you are a lot older and supposedly wiser than me which makes me wonder why you believe you have to pick on younger people over the internet to build yourself up. But its a good thing that I don't look up to you as a role model for maturity and leadership.
the bible does not say god is in charge of that punishment. it states that we should be the ones doing the killing of the sinners. it is stated very clearly leviticus. if you believe something else then you are clearly going against what the bible states. perhaps you should re-evaluate your life and start taking the actions that god clearly states you should take when you encounter one of these sinners.
Do you think gays will be punished by god the same way that liars, theifs, and those who have sex before marriage will be punished? Or is being gay a more sever sin?
No one is picking on you. You started an inflammatory thread. The majority of posters simply laughed at your ignorance. Some, like Max, went out of his way to try and open your eyes a little bit. Then you tried to backpedal from your original post once you realized you looked like a r****ded child. Maybe you should take this entire thread as a lesson of maturity. Or simply give yourself a pat on the back, as you managed to bring this board's liberals, conservatives, athiests and devout, all together in agreement to bask in your stupidity.
This guy reminds me of a lot of new Christians. He may not think he is that new but he carries that new Christian mentality. He is absolutely on fire for GOD and wants everyone to know it. He just doesn't understand how anyone could not hear his version of the truth and shrink to their knees begging the heavens for forgiveness. "Lord, why don't they get it?!" He thinks to himself. What you need to do is pluck the plank out of your eye before pulling the splinter from those around you. I don't sense the humility necessary for you to convince anyone of anything. Let me also say that it is isn't just new Christians that think this way unfortunately. I spoke to a man that used to be someone I looked up to. A man I saw as a teacher. He was my pastor. I told him that I was reading a book by Reza Aslan called "No God but God: The Origins, Evolution, and Future of Islam". I felt that if I read it, it would give me a deeper understanding of someone that American Christians seem to have little understanding of. His reaction was to laugh at me, ask me if I was serious, and then why I would do such a stupid thing. I tried to explain to him that in order to understand how they think, I need to understand what they are taught. His answer to that was that the Muslim was our fanatical, blood thirsty enemy. That Muslims were crazy and could not be reasoned with. Needless to say I was pretty much done with him and his church. My wife and I stopped going and when others asked why I explained that I didn't feel like I could be myself in that setting. You represent that closed-minded stereotypical American Christian that I wish would go away. I am a Christian and you make me sick.
well you could go run and tell your daddy that some meanie has been bullying you on the interwebs or... you could try and understand what i'm saying to you. you need to open your heart and your mind.
I gotta say, DC, you somewhat remind me of the Jehovahs that came to my door just the other day; I told them if I had to listen to them then they had to listen to me. So I patiently listened to whatever they had to say, then turned around and mentioned a couple of things that are dear to my heart. I mentioned how Tupac's death was such a tragedy despite his "thug" image. I broke down how Jordan>>>>>>Kobe. I mentioned how the Shawshank Redemption was the BEST MOVIE OF ALL TIME, and that Steve Carell was a comical genius. Also added in some tidbits about the IPhone coming out in Canada. The Jehovahs left before I was winding down, said they "had other places to go" and I assume other people's time to waste. Mmmhmm.
Ah, I was so much like you at 18. Fanatical staunch conservative, secretary of my high school's Teenage Republicans club, extremely active in youth group and in love with my church. I, like you, just couldn't understand the reasoning behind these liberals, who loved gays and killing babies. Yup, homosexuality and abortion. Those were the two paramount issues in my mind in high school. I went to the Bush inauguration in '04 and protested vehemently with the other soldiers doing God's great work. I cared about those issues so much because that's what TBN and my church told me were the most important things. Man my life changed so much when I went to college. I met the real Jesus Christ. The Jesus who loves all of God's children. I suddenly sought out pastors and godly teachers who believe that there are more important issues out there. I started reading the NT and really concentrating on the red letters. It was an eyebrow-raiser to see that Jesus never once mentioned abortion or homosexuality. NOT ONCE! and I had seen John Hagee devote full sermon series to those issues. Suddenly I thought back to myself in high school. I once asked, "How is it possible for a liberal Democrat to be a Christian?" It horrifies me to realize that I EVER had this mindset. It still makes me sad that many of my friends still have not realized how destructive that mindset is. Am I against abortion? Completely. Am I against gay marriage? I'm not so sure. It's OK to be a Christian and NOT be conservative on every issue. Suggested reading: Blue Like Jazz
All bashing, arguing, and bickering aside. The most beautiful thing about this thread is that many of us found ourselves with the original poster's mindset at one time in our life, mostly when we were his age. It took either going to college, or getting out, travelling abroad, moving to a new state to open our eyes and minds, but the promising thing here to me is that maybe this thread will get the original poster on a faster track to acceptance than many of us had.
This is like when they send juvenile delinquents to jail for an afternoon and let the hardened convicts yell at them. I was reading an article on how to manage children's behavior today. It said overly punishing the child only builds resentment. The punshimnet should be immediate and not too sever. They suggested a 1 minute time out for every year the child is over 4. DC! I think you need a 14 minute time out.
these quotes are from another board regarding a slightly similar thread... they dont pertain to what is necessarily being debated here, but they give some reference as to where the dogma that governs christianity (and form the judgements you pass onto others) were derived from. i suggest you educate yourself. enjoy.
I am proud to be American and all the opportunities is has given me ...who happens to be a minority. Since I am a minority, my "traditions" are different than yours. {Taking the bait}Birthday = day you were born. Born = alive. Can't kill something that isn't alive. (my position is not as hard as that but for simplicity ...that's it.) ...because MY parents were forced to play by your different set of rules. ...because our country has bigger problems. Also a mass deportation will ruin our country. That's proven. It's none of my business to decide who does or does not get married. ...and it's none of your business either. In America, people should be free to pursue happiness without government intervention. Less Government = better, right?
The Holocaust, the Crusades, the Spanish Inquisition, and American high schoolers not being able to mention God in their speeches. When will the madness end!!!
By all means we should go back to shooting Injuns and bison for sport making black people slaves having women be barefoot and pregnant in the kitchen beating fags up putting the Japs in war camps letting our children be alter boys letting robber barons decide the best work conditions for their workers beating down children in public black lisitng Hollywood commies letting our President wipe his ass with our constitution (no need to wait here) Good times.
I think the 2 main things that set individuals apart in life is the ability to make the right decision more often than not and the ability to evolve spiritually, physically, and emotionally. What you wrote was honestly one of the most beautiful things I have read in a long time. I think America, as a culture of tolerance, has devolved since 9/11. Given, we were all angry at: 1. The extremist muslims and 2. those in Muslim countries who celebrated when the towers fell. In order to evolve again, we must realize that we are not at war with a religion. We are at war with those who are at war with their own religion. Mulder... much respect to you sir.
Can you please explain to me the comparison of the Holocaust and American high schoolers not being able to mention god in their speeches that you just made.
