The real name of the book is VaYikra or ויקרא & is widely believed to be written by Moses himself. But don't ask me...I just studied at it Bar-Ilan University in my religion seminars, and while it was interesting at times, rabbinical study ain't my cup of arak. The writer (presumably Moses himself) talks about a lot of other things, like what you can and can't sacrifice, and why eating rabbits, shellfish and pork really makes God mad. The book establishes the tradition of Yom Kippur, a whole lot of laws about agriculture and the prohibitions of sex with family members and slaves. A whole lot of fuss about purification, spiritual and physical, and a slightly creepy obsession with body fluids. Judaism traditionally doesn't jive well with the idea of human seed being wasted -- making babies is an obligation -- which is why there's no mention at all or prohibition upon lesbians in the text. There's no mention of abortion, but the text is pretty clear about not sacrificing your children to Moloch. I think if you wanted to go after the parents that sacrifice their kids to that pagan has-been, you'd have the full support of this BBS. But then, if you aren't Jewish, (and ultra-orthodox at that) none of this really applies to you, does it?
Well, to answer the original poster's question, my parents were gay illegal alien nomads who made ends meet by performing bootleg abortions on the side....so it just kinda sorta comes natural to me I guess.
So? Cry me a river! I've been accused of being an android. Me! The guy that goes out and blows them away. And by my own director, no less. Impeach Ignorance. Promote Love and Harmony. And More HD Channels.
All you want to know about abortion and Christianity. The gist: Abortion has always been considered sinful once the fetus starts looking like a baby. Whether it was considered murder at birth varies through the years and among Catholics, Orthodox Christians, and others.
Dear Original Poster, You remind me of me about 9 years ago. I was born and raised in Texas, by christian parents, in a baptist church. I grew up in a very small town surrounded by very good people. Good people, but not the most educated, intelligent, or open minded of people. These people think the United States of America was founded on Christianity. Not just Christianity, but old testament Christianity. Their churches consisted of the brimstone and fire type sermons. That's old school, old testament, and has absolutely nothing do with our constitution or politics whatsoever. Why do you think gay marriage should be against the law? Because the Bible Says so. Why do you think abortion is "baby killing"? Because the Bible and everyone in your family and at your church says so, right? Open your mind young, Original Poster. Our founding fathers wanted to seperate church and state - politics and religion don't mix. You do understand that the USA is a melting pot of nations and religions right? You do understand that the USA is one of the "newest" nations in the world, right? Don't you understand that the people who migrated and formed this country came from nations that had been around for centuries befure the USA was even thought of? Don't you understand that all of these people who came from these nations, came from a broad spectrum of religions? Why do you think Christianity is the only one that exists? Why do you think the USA was founded on it? Why do you ignore all the other religions shared by this melting pot of a nation? It is because you are from small town, Texas, and it isn't your fault, young OP, but you just don't know any better. Open your Eyes and your mind and get out a little bit. JG
I could care less about how liberals view social issues what concerns me the most is your point that you make about liberals wanting two sets of rules. This is so true and it is holding this country back. In addition to that their economic proposals are down right scary, if Liberals are able to push their agenda accross I feel the United States will end up in the same boat as countries like France and England. A great nation but not a world superpower. If the protectionists get their way and taxes go up the US will become a socialist run nation that will "lose" what made America great.
If you will keep posting like THAT, it will make it easy for me to come up with sermons. Stop holding back. Jesus stopped telling rich people to sell all they have and give to the poor, that was just for the rich young ruler. nobody else. Jesus said he rejects those who do not clothe the naked, feed the hungry, give drink to the thirsty, visit the prisoner and those who are sick. (The least likely ones you would help.) If Christian America makes it into God's Kingdom, there should be an apology to the Pharisees. It's not what you say you believe it's what you DO because you believe. You can tell a tree by its fruit.
DCWCMT07, here is a hint: You know you're belief system may be a little out of whack when even the most conservative ideologues on this site think you are a nut.
How come no one answer his questions. He come here to seek what's wrong with you all. Why don't you just confess.
Live out your beliefs, but why are you expecting others to share your beliefs? Don't. If you believe in Jesus then be His hands and His feet in this world. Seek out those who don't know Him and tell them of the joy and peace that He put in your heart. Forgive others. Be a vessel of the love of God in Christ. These issues you raised are the symptoms. Go to the root. People who are whole don't need a physician. Go to the poor, the hurting, those who are captives. Tell them the Good News. Explain what sin is and why we need a savior. Only Jesus can forgive sins. I am sure your intentions are good and you love all people. Now show them love, mercy and truth. Live it out and tell them about Jesus.
