I just watched Ramona and Woj's report from yesterday and I knew Pelinka as Kobe's long time agent (After Tellem) but never knew Rob was also Gigi's godfather. Can't imagine how Vanessa feels, her parents, Kobe's parents and sisters but man the Lakers staffers that knew him. Those still employed and those that have left the organization. Then Rob. From Agent to friend and godfather of Gigi. Jeez man.
For more feels and if you think you can't or won't have tears start to well up again I started the video at the 39 min mark as they end the show with a Kobe montage set to the Foo Fighters. If you do have time/want to watch the various Kimmel-Kobe interviews then you can go back to the beginning.
Every time I pull up ESPN to check sports news it hits me anew that he's dead. Crazy. My basketball following prime was when he entered the league and became a superstar. Even though I hated the Lakers, I was always in awe of his game.
Most of the NBA legends (Wilt probably the main exception) are still alive, which makes Kobe's death even more stunning. They all just seemed like immortal figures. Who would've thought that Bill Russell would outlive him?
Anyone know what the protocol is for private aircraft like this is, I mean do they have to do some kind of check in or anything, flight plan etc. or completely autonomous? I've heard that police weren't even flying that day because of the weather. Just curious if they were advised against doing so, and what happened. Wonder how often he flew against advisories.
Never thought of it like that but yeah, most are. Even the guy on the logo is still alive. It's crazy, just shows how young the sport really is.
Are there stats on the probability of a fatal accident on a helicopter ride vs a car ride that people are aware of?
Don't know, but I wouldn't be shocked to learn that it's safer relatively speaking than cars. Still, what I learned from this thread to make me stay away from choppers is how technically operator-dependent flying a helicopter is. I mean, having to stick out your neck to assess terrain?!?
