The Brick bros busted your stat myth. Yoiu take the closer mid range shot. Do the fundamental thing and not what a paper stat forces you to do.

Let's look at the numbers for the captain of the brick bros and see what myth was actually busted.

Brewer's shooting percentages from distances and what that percentage yields on average, per shot attempt.

Free Throw = 80.8 so every attempt on average yields .808 points
0-3 Feet = 53.1% so every attempt on average yields 1.062 points
3-10 Feet = 25.0% so every attempt on average yields .500 points
10-16 Feet = 21.4% so every attempt on average yields .428 points
16-3PT = 26.7% so every attempt on average yields .534 points
3PT = 29.5% so every attempt on average yields .885 points

So in order of efficiency... Shots at the rim, 3 pointers and free throws then all the low yield shots in the middle.

Again no one is saying don't take any mid range shots ever, but it's pretty obvious even a bad 3 point shooter, like captain of the brick bros Brewer, is better off taking 3s when he's a bad mid range shooter as well.

How do you know that a terrible 3 point shooter sucks at shooting 5 steps closer?

That somewhat makes since, except you missed something.

With 3 minutes left in the 3rd Q, the score was 74-73 (Detroit). At that point, Harden's stat line was

    24-12-10

And we were still in the game with Dwight getting injured in the first minute. By your definition wrt to contributing to winning, that's not stat padding. That's a star trying to replace Dwight's offense.

Sure, we get blown out in the 4th. But that was just like 7-5-4 of his stats line.

As aelliott said, the Detroit game is just not a good example of Harden "stat padding."

As Jordnnnn said, there are legit things to criticize Harden for, accusing him of statpadding the Detroit, when Howard goes out in the 1st minute, is not one of them.

Sorry, you won't convince me of that. Pick something else on which to criticize him. And don't say defense in the Detroit game either, when their entire starting group scored over 17 pts each....again, without Howard.

Because he won't be as open.

This idea that you can move in closer and the defenses will allow you to is one big assumption. Besides, he's not Lawson, who has made the head-fake and dribble into the mid-range area part of his game from UNC days. Your theory (and theory ignoring defenses is all it is) relies on Brewer being able to shoot off the dribble, which is one of the harder skills to master in basketball.

All it takes is a play or a philosophy to do that. Pretty simple. Spurs pass the ball 5 times minimum for these buckets. Tony Parker and Kawhi do this for a living or do you prefer them to spot up and take 3 pointers?

I like Lawson taking something he can make, like a midrange. In what world is Ariza, Bev, Brewer going to make 40% of 3 pointers?

Uh, Bev is the 6th leading 3 pt shooter in the NBA right now. Shooting .437. Do you wish to comment on that?

    I'll wait.

In the meantime, here's my response to the rest of your post.

I knew you'd bring up the Spurs. That is actually an example for my argument, not yours. You appear to say it is very simple to just step in and take an open 3. Then you point out an MVP candidate and a possible future HOFer in Parker to make your point. Hell, why not just point out how good Harden is at shooting the midrange. You could have also mentioned LMA for the Spurs, and Duncan too.

And then you also say the Spurs system gets them open 2s. Well, sure it does. But that has nothing to do with saying Brewer should just be able to step in close and get an open 2 like the Spurs do, when they have significant scoring threats everywhere on the court. The system didn't make them midrange shooters, their skills made that motion system much easier to implement.

And then, that's not even enough proof that you are making my point for me that defenses make it hard to find open midrange 2s in the NBA (moreso than open 3s), you have to go say that your criteria is now based on Brewer and Ariza needing to shoot 40%

How many games has Bev played?

I can bring up the Warriors. They also pass tremendously well. They dont jack up 3s like we do. Theres a system for them. They all move without the ball and look to pass compared to Harden slow dribbling and dishing it to the brick bros. It takes motion to get open

So I'll sit here and wait for Ariza and Brewer to shoot 40 percent. I'll wait...

.437 in 34 games shooting > 4 threes per game. Go ahead. Tear down an obvious bright spot on the Rockets just to make your point. So, you're saying Bev should stop shooting 3s?

Warriors shoot more threes than us. Get your facts, right.

And that's my point, not yours.

You keep making my point, yet you still claim Brewer should just be able to dribble into open midrange spot that the defense is leaving open, and also have the skill to shoot off the dribble.

You don't want to wait on aelliott to 'splain to you that 40% is not necessary. No NBA coach requires 40% from 3s for players to shoot them.

It *is* easier to guard than the arc. And a clear sign of that is the historical increase of 3s vs midrange 2s throughout the NBA. How can you even argue that?

Yeah, just dribble in closer, the midrange will be wide open -- smh

It is complete disrespect of NBA defenses to say they don't know how to guard the midrange area of the court. And all you can resort to is showing how the Spurs make it hard for defenses to guard the whole court.

You bring up two of the top 10 teams of all time in NBA history from an offensive standpoint and try and use that as an example of how the rockets should play? Lol.

Of course I wish the rockets could play like those two teams but so would the other 26 teams in the NBA.... It's not that easy bud.

Your trying to argue about somthing you don't understand or don't care. Either way your wrong. 34% 3pt shooting is better than 50% 2pt shooting that's really all you need to no.

The factor in that Ariza and brew both shoot bad from inside the arc at midrange distance, it should be a no brainer for why the rockets have them shoot spot up 3s only instead of two dribble pull up 18 footers.

It's not rocket science it's just numbers.

Let's evolve our offense around Bevs 3-4 shot attempts because he is 43% from 3 line. Disregard the whole team concept and that motion creates midrange.

34% in 3 point is superior to 50% midrange. The bar keeps getting lower and lower

Let's backpedal from your statement "in what world is Bev a 40% 3pt shooter."

Its kind of amazing. I figured he'd uncork 1 sick game simply due to mean reversion, not uncork 4 MVP level games in a row.
