The majority of the bad points have been software related. Which is actually good because that can easily be fixed since its "open". I don't get why the phone being on t-mobile is a bad point? I've had t-mobile since I got my first cellphone and never had any significant problems that would cause me to switch.
HTC is the greatest.. it's not even close.. the Iphone is a lot more flashy than any HTC, but sorry guys, it's basically made for "dumb people" .. I'm not sayin that if you have an iphone you're dumb, but the operating system is so overly simplified that it's sad.. I like to have a lot of options, I like to mess with stuff and change options, the iphone allows you no such personalization, atleast when compared to the HTC.. I have an HTC Kaiser (AKA TyTn II, or AT&T Tilt), and I think it's amazing.. I everything about it, except for its size and thickness.. my contract and my dad's contract recently expired, my dad got the iphone, and I think it's complete crap. it keeps freezing up, it drops the calls, and the sound quality of calls is horrible.. It takes forever to connect to the wifi at home, and keeps disconnecting every 2 minutes. customization is a pain in the butt, and you can't do anything without having apple make you pay.. heck, I tried to download an mp3 I sent myself via email, and it wouldn't open it, why? because apple wants to rip you off.. that's why I'm waiting for the next HTC coming to AT&T, which is hopefully the blackstone (Touch HD). by the way, the shape of the G1 is crap.. this little bump in the bottom keys is absolutely pointless and it makes it look r****ded, but otherwise, I don't see how it could be worse than the iphone..
I also have T-Mobile and like it. But in many areas their coverage is inferior to the other carriers.
I broke down and got one yesterday. So far, I like it. But luckily, I already used gmail and had a pretty good gmail contact list set up. It is not a good business phone at this point because it does not support outlook. I am sure that will come soon. I got the bronze, and may end up regretting that. The keyboard does not show up well in low light. My understanding is that the black does not have this problem. On my pc, I have gmail connected in thru outlook and so I use the outlook calendar. I am missing having that sync. Hopefully, that patch will be out soon.
use google calendar and sync that up with your g1... then sync your google and outlook calendars thru "google calendar sync" everything syncs up...
Has anybody got this phone? <object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/pENEldRxuwQ&hl=en&fs=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/pENEldRxuwQ&hl=en&fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object> <object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/ecvGg8qgq5o&hl=en&fs=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/ecvGg8qgq5o&hl=en&fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>
LOL @ this. You want "personalization" on the iPhone, just jailbreak it like the rest of us smart people do with our "dumb" iPhones.
What do you think of it so far? I'm thinking of getting it, but am kind of unsure with it being a first generation product. I've read that the gps doesn't work very well. Have you tried it out yet?
Need some help..... I am having difficulty setting up my company email on my phone. I understand that the G1 doesnt have capabilities for microsoft exchange yet, but someone told me there is a way around through the IMAP. Any of you guys know what I can do here? Or am I dead in the water until an update comes out?
One of my friends has the G1 at church, took a look at it Sunday and man that sucker is thick Almost twice the thickness of my iphone...also if you just got it, beware it scratches a lot...my friend had it less than a week and the screen was scratching like crazy...a lot like the first gen ipod nanos, maybe not quite as bad but the scratches were very noticeable The phone looked pretty cool...it's the first generation so there are going to be flaws...the screen could be a little bigger without compromising the size of the phone
It did pretty well for me yesterday jsut driving up 59. It picked my location almost to the exit I was at while driving...
