Great post. At the end of the day, its just a game. These fans are becoming more like Jazz fans by the minute.
Yeah, they love their own team and think McGrady's a joke. But then, that pretty much describes fans all over the country.
I wish he would have gotten this done earlier in the season, the team would have had better chemistry and Rick would have had a chance to see him play in training camp next season to decide whether he was worth keeping or not. His career is essentially over he'll probably sign with some other team for less than a midlevel after next season but I doubt he'll come back fully from this surgery. Maybe i'm wrong...
Being rich is not everything in this world. I'm sorry that you feel differently about that, but I guess that's where we'll agree to disagree. If I had the choice, with no other factors involved, I rather be in full health and live pain free for the rest of my life rather than being a millionaire.
there are alot of people with knee problems who don't have 20 million dollar salaries and drive Ferrari. Rich + knee problems >>>>> Poor + knee problems
So what? He worked just as hard to get the money he got. It's not as if he begged the owners to give him the maximum, Les just gave it to him. The Magic organization just gave it to him. Sure there are some dam lazy ass fools in the NBA, but lets not pretend that T-mac cakewalked through the his life not doing anything to become a ball player in this league. Like I said before, it doesn't make him any less human. This is life and this is a career that he loves. Think he isn't sad about it. I agree with every single one of you, T-mac has a weak mentality at times and he craves the attention, but that doesn't mean that we shouldn't feel one ounce of pity. Sorry, but I don't base everything on money.
Gee, how about being sick/injured in some third world hellhole? You get to be poor and die really early due to a horrible disease. That's who I feel sorry for. It's sick to think that we should feel sorry for a multi-millionaire living in the industrialized West.
I don't either. its not like he has cancer or couldn't walk dude. you act like knee injuries don't happen in the NBA and we should feel really sorry for him. I recall Penny Hardaway has bowling alley in house, his career was much shorter than Tmac's. I don't feel sorry for Penny. In the grand story of the Rockets, there were greater heroes who never threw his team under the bus and who never got some undeserved glory as Tmac.
No it's sick that we don't treat everyone as being human. Regardless of their state, at the end we are all just human beings trying to help each other out (or at least I attempt to do my part as I assume many here do as well).
Hey man, I love all the Rockets all time greats. I didn't get to see them as much, but for those 1990's teams I loved just about every single Rocket. I'm just talking about people being glad he is gone from the team because of injury. It's about people saying, oh he is rich who cares what they feel, they have money. See how stupid that sounds? That's what I'm mainly arguing.
And you know what? T-Mac's state is plenty of food, plenty of clean water, and a life of luxury. He's got food. He's got clean water. He's got shelter and warm clothing. He can walk outside without fear of being shot or kidnapped. There's plenty of people in this world that don't have any of that. Those are the people I feel sorry for.
"I don't feel sorry for him because he's rich." Translation: "I'd rather freely indulge in self-pity and outright jealousy even though I'd never admit it, not even to myself. I have no capacity to show compassion for another human being who is going through pain if they have something that I don't. By casting vituperations and hateful words upon them from behind the security of my computer desktop instead, I can feel just a little better about my own pathetic self." Now there's some reading between the lines for ya.
finally it's over, good luck for the rest of his career, it's a tough surgery. With that 20 some million extra salary rockets can really do something after 2010.
you can't ignore how he's handled his situation with the Rockets and you can't ignore that he's had a financially successful career. we're not talking about Von Wafer ending his career, we're talking about Tmac. If Von ended his career, he'd probably has to find a regular job. So you get the rationale on why we really don't feel sorry for him. And this is not some shock like Magic getting HIV. Tmac doesn't have that kind of impact on the game, even though some Tmac fans think he did. <object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/iSfy4AhDDnw&hl=en&fs=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/iSfy4AhDDnw&hl=en&fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object> No tears from us Rockets fans.
I'm glad someone else feels as I do...I was just beginning to lose my faith in humanity. haha, yes an over-exaggeration, but I'm truly discouraged and bothered with some of the comments here. Many fans don't want to see McGrady as a Rocket anymore. I get it. I really do, and even if I don't agree, I can see where they come from. But some of the comments and the apparent celebration of someone's pain seems a bit off to me.
Once again, IT DOESN'T MAKE HIM ANY LESS HUMAN JUST BECAUSE HE HAS MONEY. You think I don't feel for those that are poor. Heck if someone would tell me right now if you give up your life right now we'll give food and health to every person who needs in this world, I'd do it, but reality says it's just not going to happen like that. That doesn't mean once again, that his pain should be looked as less because he has way more money than many of us combined on this board. I'm just talking about being human bro. A human being that is compassionate and loving for others no matter what.
I hope the Chronicle has the intelligence to ask the doctor about recovery time typical on microfracture in the area that Tracy is getting his..... DD
