Because he has a serious injury and the organization was telling him to "play through it". That's what. Also, he claims he did tell Keith Jones, but if the organization didn't believe him anways then why would it matter if he told SAS first? The bottom line is that the organization told him to play thru an injury that is probably career ending. Yes, apologize.

The Rockets management does not owe TMac an apology. Period.

Nevertheless, they obviously underestimated his injury. I don't see how they can be blamed for that though, since the doctors were advising them the whole time.

in theory, who are we to say that this last doctor in chitown is more correct than all the previous ones mcgrady had seen? yet some people are taking it as if it's a fact.

I thought it would be his back that would end his NBA career, but guess not, he's not going to recover from this, (players at his age who have this done usually don't make it, especially for a guy like him, who's been in the league for so long), I'm glad we won't resign him, I wouldn't have been able to take another few years with him.

I guess you didn't hear how ticked off Rick Adelman was.

    Let's see here.

    Stephen A Smith - ESPN
Rick Adelman - Coach of the Rockets

I seriously doubt Rick Adelman can "FORCE" Tmac to play if Tmac doesn't want to.

Oh. I'm hurt but I want to do a reverse dunk on a breakaway

Tmac should apologize to the Rockets fans who thought he was a leader

Tmac is doing what is the best for the rest of his career. And, the rockets finally accepted the fact, and ready to move on.

We all should move on. Best wishes to Tmac.

i don't think any head coach can force a #1 or even a #2 guy on his team to play if that guy doesn't want to. it's just the way the nba operates nowadays.

This is how I see it playing out: Since he will likely miss a chunk of next year, he knows the big contract won't be there. If he just wants to make the most of the rest of his career, he will just collect the salary ($23M) next year, come back for a stint at the end of the year to make sure people see that he has something left, and then sign a veteran deal with a really good team just to win some playoff games before his career ends ... at this point, he will just look to join a championship contender to erase the loser tag he's worn throughout his career.

He is done as a Rocket, for sure... he will make the most of his time off and make up his mind that when he returns he'll be a second-fiddle scorer/facilitator who feels good one day and doesn't the next...maybe he can finally join the Lakers or the Celtics?

DD, Were not talking about a John Stockton or Jason Kidd, were talking about Tracy McGrady here. You know as well as anybody he doesn't have the mental toughness or work ethic to come back from a surgery like that. I would have to bet no matter what they say he's pretty much done. If he comes back he won't be remotely the same.

He probably wouldn't have passed the physical for the trade to go through anyway.

In the case of professional athletes I think when the overwhelming medical opinion says one thing and the player chooses another option that directly impacts his team in a negative manner they should have the right to stop paying him. That player should also face a suspension IMO. The verdict is in from the best doctors in the world and that verdict was he could keep playing the way many other players kept playing when they had the same condition.

Finally, a doctor agreed to do the procedure and that was based on Tracy's refusal to keep playing on that knee as it is. I'm sure microfracture will help but it wasn't necessary. He held the Rockets hostage. Either get on the microfracture train with him or continue to let him go AWOL or worse yet, continue poisoning the team.

I think you knew what I meant but I will clarify. Tracy had many options and microfracture is the most extreme one that was never even brought up until McGrady brought it up. The doctors did not look at his knee and tell him microfracture was necessary for him to continue to play NBA basketball.

The press conference should start in 30 minutes. Any idea how to watch it live?

Reading through this thread makes me feel sick. Some horrible human beings out there. I've seen a few posts regarding that he is just furthering his drama queen status. Others are saying, "Well he has money, he has nothing to worry about, his life is set". It sickened me for those who praised that he isn't going to play anymore as a Rocket because of this surgery.

Look, I'm as upset and bitter about what he has done to this team and how he carried out this season. When T-mac let Jamario Moon have that easy layup in Toronto, I gave up on T-mac as a fan. I no longer felt I could support someone who would just give up on a play. Heck, when I saw him passing the ball and just standing on the perimeter, THAT PISSED ME OFF. But to come in here and sing praises because he is injured (something career threatening) and knowing that he might not wear Rockets red anymore that is just sick.

Regardless of every mistake T-mac has done, he doesn't deserve to be treated like trash. How many of you have made mistakes in the past? Did that make you any less of a human being? I know T-mac has done bad. Yet he is still trying to help causes in Darfur. I am sure he has contributed to Dikembe's foundation. I'm sure he has done his share of work for community service. Yeah, he did this organization bad when he told the national media about his season ending injury before us, but in no way should we come in here singing praises about the guy being injured.

I'm sorry, but I'm disgusted at some of you for this. Just sick minds in my opinion.

I wish T-mac the best. Honestly, I rather he not play for the Rockets again, but I wish it was under different circumstances. Here is too a healthy recovery and I wish him well.

    90% McGrady, 10% Management IMO.

McGrady has himself to blame. If he wanted to prolong his career he should have looked ahead and saw his situation would get worse or career threatening without rehabbing good. Rockets should not have let McGrady dictate his own schedule though. As soon as he said he said he still wasnt 100% to start the season he should not have played a GAME until he was. Even if it meant coming back in midseason

If Tracy doesn't put on a Rockets uniform ever again the team will benefit, bottom line. His drama queen antics and distractions were hurting the team.

Finally I don't feel sorry for the guy on a personal level. He's rich, he'll do all right.
