SFs on half decent teams: Dallas - Josh Howard - 6.5 rpg Detroit - Tayshun Prince - 4.3 rpg San Antonio - Bruce Bowen - 3.9 rpg Tracy McGrady - 4.9 rpg
In JVG's offense/defense, the SG and SF are interchangable. And just because Tmac might play SG doesnt mean he automatically is guarded by the other team's SG. They put their best defender on him regardless. Playing Tmac at the 3 only means that there are better ball handlers on the floor instead of perhaps a mediorce ball handler at the 3. That's the bottom line.
Tmac is COMPLETELY interchangable between SF and SG depending on matchups. But the Rockets need shooters to kick out to w/ Yao and Tmac's ability to drive. Shooters are normally SGs. So since TMac is interchangable, put him at SF and get better shooters around him at SG. That is why the Rockets started winning last year when we moved TMac to SF...because Wesley is a better shooter than Jimmy Jackson who started at SF. TMac won his scoring titles at SG but his teams sucked. And TMac didn't have Yao in the low post. With Yao, you need guys to knock down 3s. Those guys are normally SGs. ON THIS TEAM, TMac is more effective as a SF. Without Yao, maybe TMac would be better as a SG.
I dont understand how TMac would be more effective as a SF because his role really hasnt changed that much on offense. In our offense there is little difference between SF / SG. However, Tmac as the SF needs to match up with the bigger guards and SF's of the league that most often stronger than he is. I keep trying to think of reasons why TMac especially this year seems very injury prone. In my opinion matching up with bigger more physical players is taking a real toll on his body. True as a (defensive) SG he may have to chase quicker players around which could tire him out. But as a (defensive) SF he seems to be taking more a beating. From personal experience playing in the post, with people trying to post you up, holding, grabbing was way more exhausting on my body. I would go home and my body would just ache and I wonder if TMac is experiencing the same things.. *so what im trying to say is would it be in our best interest to move TMac back to the 2 and find someone else to play the 3?
