no, i still believe morey... will pick the lakers. i'm sure tey'll say we have a chance. but if the interviewer asks you to give him ONE SINGLE TEAM, i'm for certain the lakers would be more than unanimous.

it's like this. if you had to ask shane who was better? yao or kobe? obviously he's going to say kobe. does kobe play for us?

I would just like to say that T-mac has always been a candid person in interviews (which is actually an interesting part of his personality). He did it last year in the playoffs after they failed to secure a missed FT at the end of game 4 when he wondered out loud by landry was in the game instead of mutumbo.

is it right to say things like that? its really your opinion. I guarantee if anybody on this forum had to wager their life on the NBA champion, they wouldn't put it on the rockets. that doesn't mean that you don't want the rockets to go all of the way, it just means that it isn't the most likely outcome.

its pretty safe to say after all this time that tracy mcgrady is not a great vocal leader off the court, but I think all of us who saw him play the second half of last season saw someone who was a good leader on the court. it really showed in game 2 of the playoffs where he was an absolute monster for the first 3 quarters and then had nothing left for the fourth. he was incredible on defense and offense (there was one play where it really showed where boozer was posting up on him and instead of waiting for help or a switch, tmac got low and eventually swatted a hook). i really thought he took a step forward as a player last year and its a shame that he took a step back this year (whether because of injuries or anything else).

Anyway this is a really long way of saying that he's always been like this and he probably doesn't have great leadership qualities in his personality but that doesn't mean that we can't look to him for leadership in the game.

I disagree. It's not obvious at all.

My guess is Shane's response to that question would be that they play different positions and that it's impossible to compare them. He'd praise both of them without saying one is better than the other.

i'll shut down the post with this. greg popovich said on ABC broadcast one time: WE ARE NOT BETTER THAN THE LAKERS in regards to matching up with them and he hinted that they were gonna go farther.

and that was near the end of the reg. season.

so yea, i can fathom anything. these guys are basketball guys. even jerry sloan said, and i quote from ABC's broadcast, "we have a VERY SLIM CHANCE to beating these guys."

do those guys think differently? NO. the lakers are just hte best team in basketball. get a grip.

thank the heavens, the Contributing Members agree
(I need to donate $$$ sooner than later :D )

conclusion: though McGrady may have meant no offense to the Rockets organization, the way he conveyed his prediction was arrogant and unprofessional, end of story

as the saying goes, it's not what he said, but how he said it

So you believe Tracy said the right thing today?

Is this how you want a "team captain" to act?

I do not dispute the unwarranted hate, but it is not just the fans making up stuff all the time. Tracy must be held accountable...

(Again, Do not listen to the over the top hate, or love. It will always be present)

actually, i wouldn't make a thread over this. what he said is NOTHING b/c it's been known in the basketball world the lakers would meet the cavs in the finals. it's the inevitable in the NBA world. unless you said something else, nobody is going to believe you and call you a homer.

Actually, they are also got criticized by fans for different reasons. When a star player cannot play in playoffs, they always get criticized.

As Pop said, the spurs should get over Ginobili. The rockets also should get over Tmac. We have much more important things that need to be focused.

No you keep bringing up the "he get's paid 21 mil to...".

Fact of the matter is, you can take it how you want it. Either way i'm a rocket fan before a McGrady fan, dc if you want to believe it or not.

Problem is, if McGrady leave's who will be the next scapegoat?

    Barkley-Pippen(he was a jerk to houston though)-Francis-McGrady-...............

    You pick guys.

Coaches say those kinds of things all the time. Sloan does it as does Phil Jackson.

Those kinds of comments by coaches are more motivational techniques and psychological warfare than anything else. Trying to feed the overconfidence of the Lakers, in this case. It's psychological warfare by one of the best and most competitive coaches of all-time.

Popovich won't stop believing in his team until they are out of it. He's utilizing the media the same way many other coaches in the past have done.

People that dont think this is a big deal let me ask you this.

Reporter asks KG who is going to win the title.

He responds with the Lakers. No doubt.

Are you freaking kidding me? Tracy is a little b****. Get the hell out of here Me-mac.

oh please. apparently it didn't work. u know why? BECAUSE THE LAKERS ARE BETTER THAN THOSE TEAMS. even coaches are realistic you know.

but i love your reasons to justify their responses and yet trash whatever mcgrady says (ps. and let me repeat once again: the interview didn't mention anything about the rockets. just a reminder.)
