Exactly Vintage Tmac. The problem is not in what he said, it is in what he didn't say. Sure the Lakers appear to be the best team in the league. But he is on the Rockets . If you asked Manu Ginobli the same question even after a loss to the Mavs I bet you big money somewhere in his answer you would hear him say "Hey we are still not out of this!... It won't be easy but we still have a chance to win this series and then anything is posible" He would never exclude his on Spurs.

Yet Tmac makes no mention of them. Yeah he is probably right and Yeah it would be tough to get past the Lakers but if somehow we do we can beat everybody else including the Cavs. And for him to not acknowledge that they might even have a chance is vintage Tmac. Self centered egotistical "its on me" Tmac.

Tracy deserves some of the criticism he gets.

    The reason he gets hate?

Because some people are Rocket fans, and Tracy is a Rocket. We
expect him to act with class and professionalism. We expect him to
play hard every single night. When he fails to meet these criteria,
while getting paid 23 million a year, we have a problem. The Rockets
have a legacy, and most here do not want it tarnished with lazy, heartless,
    prideless, soft, characteristics...

I am with you on this one Rocke River, plus it does not hurt that I am rooting for TMac not to be back in a Rockets uniform next year.

Today on ESPN radio, while saying that the Rockets posed the greatest challenge to the Lakers in the West, he still didn't give the Rockets a chance to win the series. All he said was that we shouldn't be surprised if the series goes to seven games.

    This needs to be repeated.

If he said that, he has accepted the fact that he is no longer a Rocket.

Now I also think the Lakers will beat our asses, but I am not on the team, and I don't think members of a team in the playoffs should be picking other teams to win. I dont ususally care about McGrady or what he says in interviews - I actually like how he is often candid about his own feelings, etc - but I can not imagine Kevin Garnett picking Cleveland, as an example. He need not bother showing up at the games at this point:

"Go Rockets! I don't think you can win!! Good shot, Von!! Great play Yao!! Enjoy before you lose next round!!"

It was not a teammate-y comment.

Luckily, he is the Ewing theory personified. The more he plays, the more we lose. Hopefully, the more he picks us to lose, the more we will win.

The problem with this thread is we try to assume things coming out of his mouth. Take the interview with a grain of salt. Nothing more, nothing less.

He tries to play through an injury, he needs to sit, because he isn't productive enough... When he sits injured, he is soft, and will not be able he should be playing..

Some critism is deserved, I agree, but now you guys are now finding reasons to hate. He is and will always say what is on his mind without thinking. He isn't biased, and you all should be able to respect that. Should he have mentioned the Rockets? Yes, but all this discussion is pointless.

He probably should not have said this especially with the heat is already receiving.

*We are not "finding" reasons to hate. Tracy showed his unprofessional, selfish side, yet again.
*If this is true, he is either stupid, or immature, or both. A child can think before speaking...
*Biased? He does not have to be biased, but he can be loyal and a good teammate...

TMac no longer think he's part of the Rockets. That's the only logic why he said that.

How can you tell your OWN teammates you have no chance to beat the Lakers.

    Anything could happen
    You should never give up

He shouldn't have offered a pick, for PR's sake. He could have given some ambivalent stuff about how his Rockets have a chance, but the Lakers are very good too and left it up in the air. He didn't have to be a homer or a realist. But, since he chose not to bull**** us, I can't dispute his answer. I've been saying the same. In the end, I don't really care. I still hope he can come back and be productive next season.

You should pick the team that is currently paying you.

Man..this is comical......I swear, you guys that still defend this guy probably have girls who cheat on you all the time but you always take her back because you think "man, if only she can be like she was in '02-03' again and comes back with no STD's (i.e. healthy) we'd have the greatest relationship ever LOL

Like others have stated....can you hear KG, Jameer, Ginobli or any other player in the history of the game who has been employed by an NBA team during the playoffs but on the injured list to say this?

Face it....tracy's a attention w****...the playoffs have started, his team just whipped up on the Blazer's and his name hasn't been mentioned once and he's starting to feel withdrawal symptoms

Even after five years as a Houston Rocket, people still don't know McGrady. He has never been a politician or anything resembling a wordsmith with the media. He is generally honest to a fault. They asked him a question, and him being his normal self, responded with an honest answer. He wasn't saying "I'm no longer a Rocket", he wasn't saying "my guys don't have a chance against the Lakers". He was just saying, "I think the Lakers are the best team in the league and they will win the title." That's it.

Those who say to take what TMAC says with a grain of salt... Remember he is our team CAPTAIN.

Damn, promote Yao to Captain already.

How is he showing his unprofessional and selfish side?? He only answered a question. I don't get it. Guys bash the man for answering an honest question. I feel sorry for him.

Last year when Yao was out did guys really think we were going to win it all?? Now that Tracy is out and Yao is in guys really believe we are going to win it all?

I don't understand how you can be able to win anything when pieces are missing.

In fact, Manu just said that he would play with the injury if the spurs make the finals. However, some spurs fans hate him to say that. They want him to shut up! Because they think he shouldn't give them impossible hope, and he should stay away from the spurs (just like some rockets fans think about Tmac). Actually, Pop also said that the spurs should get over Manu!

Manu, Tmac, KG all should disappear during this playoffs! ;)
