Van Gundy has no affiliation with the Rockets. A more appropriate parallel is Joey Dorsey. Can you imagine Dorsey picking his team to lose in the next round?

BUT JVG isn't part of the Rockets. He is an analyst that's paid to speak his mind. You don't go into wars telling people the other team is going to win. Hopefully, we'll see the Lakers in a few weeks. Do you like it that our player is saying the other team can beat us???

Maybe its his way to motivate the Rockets to continue to ignite in the playoffs and for them to get the incentive to prove him wrong. Did the media asked him who he picked to win the title or did he just come out and say it? He should've said something like "Well the Lakers are the favorites and it'll be tough to beat them, but anything is possible and the Rockets have some matchups in their favor." Besides, how many of us picked the Pistons to beat the Lakers in FIVE games in the NBA Finals of 2004?? That had Shaq, Kobe, Malone, and Payton. Also the great coach of Phil Jackson.

Would a Joey Dorsey thread elicit 3 pages like this one already has so far?

Looking toward the next round and NBA Finals before getting out of the first round. Hmm...who does that sound like? Maybe the very person that you are criticizing! That's why we haven't gotten out in 12 years.

This thread just illustrates how hatred makes people irrational.

If he really said the Lakers will win it all, I am convinced he has played his last game as a Rocket.

He's making a logical pick and being honest... Tracy is a very honest person when answering how he feels... aka the whining he is known for.

    HOWEVER...

He's wrong to not say his boys have a chance. They are THE team that has a chance to stop Kobe.

Guys, don't you think Tmac would pray for Rockets NOT get out 1st round without him, even rockets had blow out win over blazers at game 1?

Great post, It is a mentality with him.

For all the problems Ron has, he truly believes the Rockets are going to win a ring THIS year...And that is how it should be...

No one cares about McGrady anymore. Stop bringing this kind of crap up. Focus on the playoffs. That's what the Rockets need to do. T-Mac is not and will never be in the conversation.

Tracy did not lie or do anything wrong. However what he did is simply unprofessional. It's no different like saying that we should tank a game to avoid X team -- even if you do it, you don't say it to the media.

As part of a Rocket's team, he should refrain from making comments like this especially considering that it is more likely than not we will play against Lakers in two weeks.

For those of you say it was an honest answer, just ask yourself as a member of the Rockets, should Tmac honestly believes that the Rocket doesn't have a chance, even a slim one to get past the Lakers. No current NBA players in their sane minds would say something like this.

Exactly. The guy is still on the team! He plays for the Rockets. How is this in any way okay? I mean come on.

I think the rockets match up better with Cavs than the lakers. Even lebron said how difficult the rockets were an how they can't seem to figure this rockets team out.

He should have said the Rockets... It's getting damn near impossible for me to defend Tracy. I don't care if he doesn't even really believe it deep down inside, he still should have picked the Rockets.

When did JVG say that? I remember him saying that if anyone can beat the Lakers, it's the Rockets... he just said that a week or two ago, in fact.

Where did you hear him say we have no chance?
