The really important thing is not whether what he said is true or not or how much persuasive his interview was, but the fact that this guy is earning 21million and is still capain of Houston Rockets who will face the team tmac picked in the second round. He should have shown the respect for them.
It all depends on who you get back in a trade vs who you think you can sign for that money. For example, if the Rox relisitically think they can sign Dwade or Lebron or someone close to that in 2010 you keep tmac whether he is healthy or not and let him expire. If they dont think they can get one of the elite guys but say you could trade Tmac to Indiana for someone like Granger then you do that. The fear is you let his contract expire and you cant land one of the big FA of 2010. So you have all this money but no one to spend it on. Thats usually how you end up over paying for a good but not great player.
FWIW, Yao pretty much said the same thing about China's chance in the Olympics. I guess his teammates and the billions of Chinese fans should crucify him.
Sigh! I just hope that those who've been advocating the honesty-is-the-best-policy line would be able to say the right thing when the woman you keep saying you love asks you whether the Kirstin Kreuk-lookalike who lives next door turns you on more than she does.
http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/dailydime?page=dime-090422 Seems like the Cavs heard what he said and will use it to motivate them.
This thread is corny. Give it a rest worry about the problems the Rockets have at hand. Like Yao asserting himself and not whimpering when he gets pushed or fronted.
http://sportsradiointerviews.com/2009/04/22/ron-artest-doesnt-believe-tracy-mcgrady-picked-la/ Artest doesnt believe Tracy picked LA
Hehe, I like that. Bulletin board material from your own teammate. Maybe that was Tracy's plan all along.
My point exactly!! Could you not tell before the Trading Deadline that T-Mac was hurting more than he said he was or am I conversing with Stevie Wonder? Other teams watch film, other teams have scouts, they knew the Rockets inside and out. Teams normally do stuff like that before they make a trade. By the way it was John Lucas. The first time he was with the Rockets, before he went to Golden State for Rick Barry.
I'm really surprised that any Rocket fan would defend TMac for this. As long as this guy is on the payroll he shouldn't predict anyone other than the Rockets to win, whether it's realistic or not. I just wonder how he will be received by his teammates tomorrow night when he's supposed to be sitting on the bench?
Is'nt Magic Johnson part owner of the Lakers? Last year he predicted the Celtics were going to beat the Lakers!! Where are all the traders coming from???? Or could it be they are just simply answering questions for the general public? What do you think about Bill Worrell, the commentator for the Rockets? He is from Houston, went to the University of Houston, and has announced games for the Rockets for over 30 years, longer than McGrady has been born, and he predicts the Spurs to win it every year!!!! Does that make him any less a Rocket fan? He loves the Rockets. STOP WITH THE TUNNELL VISION!!
There is a huge difference between being a commentator or former player and player on the current roster. Clyde, and Calvin are both former Rockets, but it doesn't bother me if they predict another team to win. TMac is still an actual member of the team whether he's injured or not. I don't know if Magic is part owner of the Lakers or not, but he does work as an analyst for TNT, so you can understand if he's objective. I'm not really even a Rockets fan, but it pisses me off because I respect what the rest of the team has done this season without TMac, and it just seems like a slap in the face to those guys. To me it seems like he's almost wanting these guys to fail so no one can say they succeeded without him being on the court.
I'm surprised any Rocket fans are still keeping this thread alive! I hoped it would die during the last playoff game! There are bigger, much bigger things to talk about... Dikembe Mutombo, Aaron Brooks, Ron Artest, Brandon Roy, Lamarcus Aldridge.... but this continues and continues and continues. Not everyone needs to be 'attacked' and 'defended' for a simple comment.
