are we not considering the plays T-mac did as good or bad? Passing out of a double team is a good play if you ask me. Especially if it ends up as a basket within the first 4-5 seconds of the pass. His giving credit for the pass. Without the double team there would be no basket. IF anything its not a good play like you said but a neutral / good play. If you want to split it that bad. Either way its not a BAD play

Your concept is 100% correct, but make no sense.Sorry.
I just wonder that without T-MAC,did other guys take these chances better or worse?I don't know.
How sad it is,we built a team basing on the superstar, but right now,i don't know if we are better with our superstar or without our superstat!
You must think i am a T-MAC hater,no,i'm not,i just feel disappointment by current situation.

Who gives a crap about making it a statistic? The point was to show whether or not he had a positive or negative impact on the game when he was out there. I'm sorry, but there is a huge difference between passing out of a double team (which takes skill...look at Yao in his first year and Luther/Rafer now), which creates an open shot with ONE MORE QUICK PASS and a ballboy keeping the floor clean. Passing out of the double team is what creates the open shot on the plays that I mentioned. Shane is open because 1) Tmac was doubled and passed out 2) Rafer passed the ball to Shane for the 3. Yes Rafer made the pass, but there was no pass to make and no open man at all if not for TMac drawing the double team and making the correct, fast pass to Rafer.

Trying to minimize the impact with your examples is ridiculous

Of course I see that. But if Rafer chooses to pass to someone else, thats rafer's choice.

There are too many variables that you arent considering. For instance, lets say tmac runs a pnr with yao and gets doubled and passes to rafer. rafer throws a pump fake that causes a defender to jump at him and then passes to battier. Battier does the same thing and passes to brooks. Meanwhile, yao has set a screen for brooks to get open. Brooks catches battier's pass and hits a 3.

Why is mcgrady double teamed? Its usually b/c of the pnr. Lets say yao sets the pick. why doesnt yao get credit as well? without him setting the pick, tmac wouldnt be doubled. and then he couldnt pass to rafer. who couldnt pass to battier. who couldnt pass to brooks. who couldnt have gotten open without yao's screen.

In this scenario, for 1 basket, 6 people made good plays. You can even break it further. Each pump fake that those guys had could be construed as a good play b/c it draws the defender. and then the pass is another good play. so thats 1 basket with 8 good plays. Dont you think thats a little over the top?

In my opinion, the one who should get credit for the pass is the one who made the assist. Ultimately, its his final decision making that leads to the basket.

You're going down a slippery slope, my man. See Blake's last post to clarify what I meant.

    Here's a simple breakdown:
No Tmac(or Yao) drawing the double team = No open shots for other Rockets.

If the point was to show whether or not he had a positive/negative impact on the game, then there was no need to make the breakdown. Since he dominates the ball, if we win, then he has a positive impact with his decision making. If we lose, then he has a negative impact with his decision making.

Also, you have to factor in the reason tmac was doubled. Normally its b/c scola/yao/hayes sets a pick and forces the defenders to choose.

Tmac may draw the double team, but its the presence of scola/yao/hayes that allows the double team to happen in the first place.

Every play that I gave him credit for involved him starting out with the ball, making a move and getting double teamed and then passing it quickly to a player who immediately passes to the open man. It's a simple pass to the guy who is going to be open because TMac was doubled

EDIT: Wekko-my last question. When Luther or Rafer come off of a screen do they get doubled?

You are arguing for the sake of arguing and I am going to sleep.

note all the hockey assists literally happen with 5 seconds of the pass being made as well

Only if you set a pick for him. If you were standing next to the basket, i doubt your man would leave you to double tmac at the 3 pt line.

You guys are over analyzing the game. I don't need stats to tell me Tmac had a pretty decent game. Only player that came out and play hard today was Landry. The rest of the team didnt really show up.

Actually Brooks and Scola showed up. So did Battier. The only guys who really had sub-par games were Yao, T-Mac and Alston.

Man Shane really never stands out.
I guess that NASTY dunk Foster had on Brooks clouded my mind. (joking)
Scola I figured he reverted back to his old self when Tmac was starting but Im looking at the stats now. Not bad I was wrong.

Battier was 4 of 7, 3 of 6 from 3 point land. And he had more minutes than anybody else on the team. And he sank two clutch free throws in the last minute of the game to give the Rockets a 3 point lead.

Battier doesn't get enough love on this board, but the guy's a pro. He just quietly does all the little things that help his team win.

His good plays might outnumber his bad plays, but his bad plays are really momentum killing sometimes.

It doesn't matter if you make 50 good plays and 1 bad play, if that 1 bad play kills your entire momentum, you are a player who has a negative effect.

I think most people on the board no we are better off with TMac on the court then not. It's his demeanor that at times turns people off to him. I'll give 1 example he drove to the basket and clearly got fouled. It should have been called and he had every right to be pissed. The problem is b****ing to the ref while the Pacers run up court and score is detrimental to the team. Continually b****ing to the ref and getting a technical is detrimental to the team. Showing obvious lapses in defensive effort no matter how infrequent is detrimental to the team.

And worse than that the fan percieves him as not giving 100% when other players like Landry Scola and Yao are giving 110%. It's the perception that TMac doesn't care as much as he should that makes people turn on him. Tmac had the flu and needed rest. No reason to question his heart on that. Afterall Yao just 2 days earlier missed a game for the same reason. But Yao tried to play and couldn't breathe and later told the media he couldn't stand missing and won't miss again because he is sick. Now Yao comes across to the fans as a true Rocket who is dedicated to his team. And perhaps Tmac may feel the same way but we don't see that. We here how sick Yao was and he still shows for practice and TMac and Bonzi miss practice. And then we see Bonzi show up for the game but TMac is missing in action.

Whether right or not TMac gets judged as not being a true team player.
And it doesn't help that we constantly hear Tmac say he is not 100%. Enough already, in this league injuries are common and most people play we some kind of pain. Yao a toe that was about to fall off and didn't even mention it till he just could not move down the court. The perception is TMac would never do that. But rather would cry about and explain how difficult his life is.

Now that is perception and maybe completely unfair but he could change that very easily. Just follow Landry's lead and dive after some balls that he only has a slight chance of getting. Drive to the lane hard knowing there is very little chance of getting more than a beat up. Take a hard charge or fight in the paint for a hard rebound. Play with passion and watch how the fans respond. Sure TMac is talented but talent isn't everything. People shout Landry's name during a game more for his effort than his talent. And because he gets more out of his god given talent than should be expected. The opposite seems true for TMac. God gave TMac so much talent maybe more than any one human being and clearly TMac is not getting the most out of it. Landry and Scola haven't even been here a year and already seem to bleed Rocket red more than TMac has done in his whole time here.

So you can say we fans are fickled but it is just natural for a fan who cheers and supports a team to expect the players he is cheering for to want to give there all to the team. And the reason why many people b**** about Tracy's play is not because we are better without him. We obviously aren't... it is because we could even be better with him if he only gave more. Again maybe this is all perception and there is more going on than meets the eye but that's the reality of what you see is what you believe you are getting and in the masses eyes they believe they are getting less than what they should get from the man. Image is nothing is a lie.

After rewatching most of the game on FF I don't think McGrady was too bad tonight on the offensive end. He hit his quota of bad/contested jumpers but a lot of his misses came on open looks to the basket. I don't know, clearly he was trying to shoot himself back into it, but 6 of 19?

T-Mac's real lapses were on the defensive end. He looked disengaged for a good chunk of the game and where that really shows up is defense.

Who thinks TMac can't score? Certainly not me.
Who thinks TMac is a winner? Certainly not me.
