Yao has to be the one who wants to break free from his parents. With all said and done, it seems Yao likes things the way they are. That's part of reason why I think Yao will never be as dominat as we hope him to be in the future. Of course, things can change overnight. For example, it's possible that Yao's wife might not get along with his parents, then, they have feud, then, u know.. or.... never mind. The point is Yao is still a young boy at heart. not man yet.
When I was talking about the whole Nike-Reebok thing...I didn't exaggerate...His exact words were "Nike $1.5 billion...Reebok $0.65 billion" $0.65 billion = $650 million. We even asked him if he was kidding, but he said he was dead serious. Nike messed up big time or Yao's pride did.
whats crazy is that my friend who within the last year started following the nba and was watching a rockets game with me. now my friend is a very spiritual person, but he just comment want mcgrady was shooting free throws how tracy's eyes looked like he has been through a lot of suffering and that he feels sorry for him. my friend had no idea who tracy was in terms of being a player he just started watching the nba. a few days later i came across the article about how droxford above mentions tracy losing so many close friends and relatives since his rookie season. the worst part is that even except his great aunt, died young and their deaths were unforseen or accidents. truly a shame to hear that he lost another cousin. the guy has been through a lot off the basketball court i hope him well
Sneakermaker Reebok is banking on Yao's popularity to help it close the gap on rival Nike in China. This fall Reebok signed Yao to a multiyear deal reportedly worth $70 million. Link Should I believe you or Forbes? Nike's annual revenues are around 12 billion, Reebok's are less than 4 billion. You don't give a guy a contract worth 10+% of your revenue. LeBron James signed for $90 million, and I can guarantee you Nike didn't offer Yao FIFTEEN times what they landed LeBron for.
I'm pretty sure that he's confused then. It happens all the time with Chinese people trying to convert these big numbers to English. According to Yang Yi's book about this Reebok/Nike situation, Nike offered a deal with Yao worth the size of Lebron's shoe deal + 2/3s of Kobe's deal. Which is around $150 million. http://bbs2.clutchfans.net/showthread.php?s=&postid=1293948#post1293948
If its true about Yao's mom giving him an allowance, then thats officially the worst thing i've ever heard. He's not a man.
Then why are we surprised guys by his on-the-court demeanor if he is still being tucked in by mommy at night? The guy, emotionally speaking, is still a kid, and he has not grown up mentally. This is rather common, btw, in many families from Eastern heritages. I know some friends of mine from the Middle East and China and this overprotective parents syndrome, even after they reach 23 or 25, is rather an accepted norm in their cultures. Nothing bad, just a different culture. In America, kids are used to moving out and being largely independent by no later than 21 or so.
According to xe.com at this moment 650 china pesos = $78 US. I'd hazed a guess and say the guy was referring to chinese currency. On another note, Yao's problems can be solved by an 7 foot anti-establishment Suicide Girl type chick. That's one hook up he needs to make.
Yeah, I agree. It is a different culture in Asia. Many people still live with their parents after college and after getting a full-time job etc (sometimes, although a bit rarer nowadays, even after they are married! i.e., parents move-in with the new couple). I think Americans and maybe the West in general grow up "faster" and learn to be much more independent at an earlier age than in the East. Not necessarily a good or bad thing but just different.
entering yao into the profile search only brings up 4 chicks over at SG but only the girl from brazil is hot. better luck next time yao.
